  • Thumbs UP!! Large, Even, Light Coverage. Rugged. Long battery life.
Style: Handheld Light Only
Very impressed with the Dewalt DCL050 20v LED Worklight for three reasons: 1) rugged, 2) large, even, light coverage, and 3) long battery life. This light feels rugged and appears to match the quality of other Dewalt 20v power tools. At first glance, the pivoting head seems a bit elongated, but you get used to it very quickly. The rubberized grip and trigger is comfortable and ergonomically shaped. Squeezing the trigger once puts it in 500 lumens (high) mode. Another squeeze switches to 250 lumens (low). A 3rd and final squeeze turns it off. The 140 degree, 9 angle, click-into-position, pivoting head, comes in very handy. When the head is moved into the far downward position (90 degree angle), it makes an outstanding reading light while camping or during a power outage! Not sure how it feels while using the smaller 1.5 - 2.0 amp batteries, but with the heavier, 4.0 amp Dewalt battery it has a very balanced feel to it. For those that need to illuminate a work area in a small to moderate sized space, the well dispersed light from the DCL050 is very effective. It provides approx. 130-140 degrees of distinctly circular, even light coverage. The pattern is similar to an old-school, "flood" light; however, the DCL050's light pattern is even wider and more evenly dispersed---no hot spots, beams, or irritating lines. The vast majority of lights on the market have a focused, narrow, spot-type beam. The DCL050 is not a "spot" light. If you need this type of beam pattern suggest taking a look at the Dewalt DCL043 or DCL040. I might add the DCL050 produces a very white light--not quite blue, but definitely much, much whiter than a typical incandescent light. As for battery life, I believe Dewalt advertises 3-4 hours on the 500 lumen/high position. I can only assume this estimate is based on the use of 1.5 to 2 amp batteries. With higher capacity 4.0 amp Dewalt batteries, I get a consistent 8 hours of light in the 500 lumen (high) position. When the battery is nearly exhausted, the light output automatically drops to 250 lumens and starts to "flash" occasionally in a distinct, programmed fashion---a friendly reminder the battery needs charged/replaced soon. No battery, charger, or belt clip are provided with this light. For those that already own other Dewalt 20v power tools (and already have the 20v batteries and charger), this DCL050 LED worklight is a very useful, functional addition to your existing Dewalt 20v arsenal! ... show more

  • Great Light for Any Purpose
Style: Handheld Light Only
Purchased as a gift for Christmas. It is very bright, has long battery life, and charges relatively quickly. You can use this light for pretty much anything. It has a hook in the top so you can hang it and the head tilts significantly so you can get light into any place you need. It is thin so you can get into hard to reach places as well. This works with any 20V Max battery. It has 3 light settings (high, med, low). The high will illuminate and entire regular size room with ease. Excellent to have around the garage. Durable and it has weight in your hand. ... show more

  • Great bright light
Style: Handheld Light Only
It is a good size but not too heavy. stands well and adjustable. It certainly can light up the room an is perfect for work as well as an extra light to have on hand for power outages.

  • Extremely Versatile Well Built Work Light
Style: Handheld Light Only
Was initially very skeptical to spend so much on just a "work light". But if you already have DeWalt batteries, and are somewhat invested in their tool lineup, this work light is an absolute must. Battery life almost seems endless using a 5Ah 20V MAX battery. Light uniformity is also very good, without any blinding bright spots. The build quality is top notch, and definitely built to take a pounding. Just add a nice carabiner to the top hook (wish it actually came with one), but once you have that, you can hand and point the light pretty much anywhere you want. ... show more

  • Really bright
Style: Handheld Light Only
Item is as described and at a very good price. We’ve been having a lot of power outages lately so I purchased 2 more lights. They are really bright and work much better than a lantern.

  • Very useful
Style: Handheld Light Only
Works great. Bright enough for what I need. Battery life not quite as long as expected. Great that the battery is the same as all my other Dewalt tools

  • I don't think this line is suited for my application
Style: Handheld Light Only
I have been a mechanic of many forms throughout my life thus far, from a diesel mechanic in the Marine Corps, an electric motor mechanic, an auto tech at my father's 40+ year business, to my current position as a field service tech specializing in servicing light and heavy equipment and tools used in industrial energy and power construction. Admittedly my current position is probably the most hellish environment in which a tool could ever serve, but I take great pride in my collection and take care of my gear as best I possibly can while under serious time constraints. However, I often have helpers that I can't always monitor as many of us do, so to be fair, there may have been some rough treatment that I'm not aware of to this light. I started acquiring Dewalt's 20v line after purchasing the 1/2" drive high torque brushless impact after using mostly air tools during my career. My first location in my new position was remote, it was the dead of winter and from 30 degrees down to the single digits most days, and always wet and ridiculously muddy. I was tasked with keeping 5 excavators fitted with cluster hammers for drilling rock up and running. Three to five times a day I swapped out worn drill rig heads with my fresh rebuilds, each time required the removal of 26 1 1/2 nuts from 8 inch bolts that were being brutalized from vibration 70-90 hours a week. Two of the 5ah batteries could get one removed and another installed, with the occasional breaker bar or nut splitter. That impact shaved over an hour from my time and saved my back, I was sold. I became deeply invested in this line of tools despite noticing that industrial contractors here in the southeast seem to be moving away from dewalt and mostly to Milwaukee. I began having an issue with that impact a couple months in to that job, sometimes when using it, especially when nose up, its battery would lose contact and I would have to shake it to get it moving again. It took a while before I could really examine what was happening, but now I've experienced the same problem with multiple tools in the line including this light. Obviously I was working the tool hard, and it generates a massive amount of heat for a battery powered tool. But it would make its own plastic body soft enough that if it laid against anything else too soon after heavy use, there would be impressions left in it and all of the writing on its side was illegible after a couple months and that was out in 30 degree weather. The fact that it was capable of doing what I was using it for is an incredible feat in itself, but I do believe it should reach a thermal shutdown before this could happen and provide the user with a little security that they aren't about to throw $500 down the drain because they're too busy to sit it aside to cool in the middle of a job, time is money. Later I realized that my batteries where deforming from heat, and the plastic became brittle and has cracked and broken on several of them, one of them was used exclusively with this light. This light is not rugged, and do not expect it to be one to toss in the tool bag with everything else and beat around in the bed of your truck. The other reviewers mentioning it's tendancy to tip over when tilted are right, and it's my opinion that Dewalt should have made rubber bumpers that protrude far enough away from the lens to prevent impact with some things. In my case the plastic around the lens cracked up and fell apart and allowed the lens to fall off. It's been zip tied for about 6 months. You can tighten the floppy tilting mechanism by tightening a torx screw under the sticker over the joint on the left hand side with the lens facing you, but don't pierce the other side because there is wiring that comes all the way to the surface of the hole that's covered only by a sticker. Later another battery overheated after the light had been left on on the workbench, I have no idea for how long and the plastic at the base cracked in the front and rear. I had to epoxy it back together and install my own bolt with a nut through the plastic sleeve on its back after it all broke apart and became misshapen from heat. I find the hook isn't as useful as I would like it to be, it's more for storage than for positioning for light. With all of that said it's still my favorite light, there's just something about the pattern it casts that I think makes it perfect for supplemental light at the bench. After experiencing these issues with overheating, plastic breaking and deforming and batteries breaking apart, I guess they aren't tough enough for my specific use. I've steadily been building my Milwaukee kit after seeing them survive projects with people giving them a beating, but I might run in to the same grief with them in a years time who knows. I can't always get air to where I'm going these days so hopefully this doesn't mean I would have to purchase new tools every year to keep up the speed they provide me, because now I'm spoiled and I'm sure that's what I'd do. ... show more
