  • Excellent for its intended use
Style: Pole Saw Bare Tool Only
Purchased 2 years ago. Used mostly during the spring and summer months. During these two years, we have had zero problems. For a pole chainsaw, its on the lighter side (from others I've used) and is perfect for smaller limbs and branches. Cuts 4" limbs with relative ease. (Rated up to 5" limbs.) My wife and I are in our late 70's and are still able to use it (but we have to rest between limbs.) And yes, my wife uses it. (In fact, it was a gift to her. See asked for it.) One quick fact they don't tell you. Buy a bottle of Dewalt chain saw oil as it comes dry and they don't furnish oil with the saw. (A hex wrench does come with the saw however. It's mounted in a dedicated holder in the chain cover.) This saw is professional quality and give proper care, will last for years. Very satisfied with the purchase. Also consider a good, heavy pair of gloves and eye protection. When sawing, the air fills with wood dust. When I bought the saw, I also bought an extra chain, but after two years of home use, still don't need to change the chain. (Did adjust the original one once to take up slack. (But that's easy-piesy.) Strongly recommended for a cordless, pole chaisaw. ... show more

  • Heavy but gets the job done.
Style: Pole Saw Bare Tool Only
I have multiple DeWalt 20v cordless tool and batteries and have for the most part been very happy with them, so I decided to but their pole saw when I needed one. It is simple to assemble and operate, and with the center pole attachment has good reach. It has also had surprisingly good power and cutting ability. I used it to take down most of the dead Hawthorne tree beside my driveway with no problem on the dead dry wood. Soon after I found one of my neighbors trees had grown over to the point it was damaging my roof and being careful(and experienced) I was able to trim it back off the house to a point it will take a long to be a problem again. After both those projects and others the 5Ah battery still had plenty of charge. There is a downside though, first when the saw is fully assembled the pole is fairly wobbly, but I have read that is common with electric pole saws. The other less than ideal thing with this saw is the weight. I have developed serious health issues this year, and they have left me very weak, with a loss of 60 % of my diaphragm usage and therefore 60% of my lung capacity, and partial paralysis in both arms so the weight is a serious issue, but by pre-planning and improvising supports I have been able to use it fine, and it does work well. The batteries last surprisingly long, and if you have the chain spinning before contacting the wood to be cut, it never bogs down or stalls...at least that is how mine is. ... show more

  • This pole saw works too well, wound up with a huge problem.
Style: Pole Saw Bare Tool Only
We used to try trimming tree branches with a manual pole saw, but it takes so long to cut through a limb that you’re worn out after just a couple of branches. I thought this Dewalt 20v pole saw would be the answer. Out of the box it took literally a minute or two to be ready, I used a 5.0ah Dewalt battery, and figured that should be good for 15 minutes of cutting, so off I went. After 15 minutes, I had a huge pile of branches to deal with! Way more than I thought I’d wind up with in a short period of time! This saw is way too efficient, and it actually makes trimming branches fun. No change in battery charge after cutting for 15 minutes, still showed 3 lights. Today we did a major clearing of branches, and spent a couple of hours. And once again, wound up with another huge pile of branches that needed to be reduced and burned! The cutting with this saw is the easy part, the tough part is how many branches you can cut in a short period of time. After two hours of cutting the 5.0ah battery still showed 2 lights. Great pole saw, I wonder if it’s possible to buy another extension sections so I can reach some higher branches…hmmmm…… ... show more

  • Good tool
Style: Pole Saw Bare Tool Only
I am a DeWalt fan and have a dozen tools that use the same batteries - which is a good cost of the tools. This pole saw works well, just a few things I'd change; 1) Make the pole a little sturdier, when the extender is attached is wobbles a bit more then expected. 2) The shortest is something like 4 or 5 feet, so it is very difficult to trim small branches one you drop a good size limb from the tree....if the chain saw connected to a short (12 inch?) rod to the handle it would be so much better. 3) Higher cap or seal on the bar oil tank - I have to be sure not to lay it down or some oil drips out 4) Thankful the tool to remove the chain is on the sheath, but it does take time to realign the chain if it comes loose and jams, which can happen when your cutting and a branch twists on the bar during a cut. It does cut well and the battery life is good. ... show more

  • Easy to use, very efficient
Style: Pole Saw Bare Tool Only
This guy can be used as two or three pieces. The extension piece in the center is super easy and fast to install. I used a Milwaukee to Dewalt adapter with this tool and it worked perfectly. I really expected to go through several 6.0 ah batteries while cutting branches. I covered about an acre of my yard trimming branches around the perimeter. I only used less than half of one batteries' charge. Still had 3 out of 4 bars on my single battery. I cut a lot of branches! In the cut, plenty of power as long as you got the blade spinning before bearing down on the branch. Chain was great. I really like the tilted head versus straight. The extension, though easy to install, has a small amount of give at each joint. The joints remained stable and this was easy to compensate for. I was able to reach quite high. Although not recommended for all.....you can reach with one arm directly overhead and make a cut, maximising reach. One has to be mindful of falling branches and also be prepared to catch your pole saw as it just begins to drip as well. Do it at your own risk and commensurate with your own physical ability! This saw is slightly chain-end heavy by design, but it worked well with plenty of torque on 5" or more branches. Yes, I would recommend. ... show more

  • Does the Job
Style: Pole Saw Bare Tool Only
I recently came into a 59 acre farm and have lots of work to do. I was a bit worried about the idea of a battery powered pole saw but decided to give it a try. So far it's worked well. I've cut with it a couple of days as I ride fields and/or driveway doing other task and the battery has made it through each day (note that I'm using a 6Ah battery starting with it fully charged each day) You can stall the saw pretty easily but it's just a matter of pulling it out of the limb when it stalls and restarting the cut and it cuts right through. It's not light weight but it's a lot lighter than the gas powered one I had been using so all in all I'm happy with the purchase. I do like the idea that I can leave one section of the pole off and have around an 8' pole which works for most of my needs and makes the saw much easier to handle. ... show more

  • Pleasant surprise
Style: Pole Saw Bare Tool Only
Amazing power tools I am pleased and very surprised. I found the saw easy to use and much more convenient than gas I read all the reviews and I know people at issues with the extension. I had the same issues with the extension. It was a bit awkward while kind of dangling in mid-air while you holding the saw in your hand. The tool requires oil which is no surprise and I'm sure necessary and cuts really well. Smooth cuts every now and then you get a little jam but you usually get out of it. The only thing I found in the con department was the extension but that's to be expected. I prefer to get a ladder to cover some of those distances there was a lot to get done but I broke it up into 4 days of cutting. Trying to get ahead of the weather before anything springs up and a job multiplies exponentially. I found the battery life really good as well I got about 30 minutes out of each battery cleaned the tool after each use, it was easy to clean, easy to dismantle and reassemble. At some point the saw stopped working and I contacted the seller and they were more than happy to just replace it. No shipping cost. I'm very pleased with the outcome ... show more

  • Make sure to add bar oil
Style: Pole Saw Bare Tool Only
After a quick flip through the instructions and adding bar oil to the empty reservoir the saw worked exactly as expected. Great purchase!
