Simpler for echo integration

Why would this Denon 250 be so much simpler to use as bluetooth speakers with the Echo Show than Amazon's Echo studios? Wouldn't you think Amazon would make it very easy to use their own studios and woofer for the Echo Show? Nope. I read in these reviews that the Echo studios and sub woofer sounded better than these Denon 250s. Nope again. I had 2 of the 250s and returned them for the echo studios and sub woofer as per advice of reviewer. A nightmare to connect, complicated command to access and not near as good sound as the 250. I returned the echos and reordered 2 250s. Beautiful full sound through all frequencies. Recommended. ... show more

Amazing speakers

I bought this to add to my denon audio infrastructure. I have two Home 150s and now this Home 250. They synch wirelessly to each other as well as my Denon home theater in the living room to provide whole-house audio. I love walking around the house and having my music or podcast in every room without a hitch. The HEOS app is a little clunky but it works fine to make speaker groups. Then I can use airplay to stream to my speaker groups right from Spotify, TuneIn Radio or whatever other app I'm using to stream my music. i've been given the runaround buy multiple employees and departments. the denon 250 speaker is not only unworthy of it's $550 price tag, but i wouldn't use it if someone paid me to. since day one, the bluetooth connectivity has been extremely poor, every day, sometimes multiple times, the speaker needs to be repaired with the one device we use to play music. no other devices, i.e., phones/computers have been connected to this speaker, yet every time someone gets a call and connects to their own airpods, this speaker stops playing music. not only have the staff at denon been unhelpful, each one has told me a different story. i, and the rest of our 150 employees, will never purchase another denon product again. and when given the opportunity, we will absolutely discourage anyone we know from wasting any of their hard earned money on terrible products and even more terrible customer service. ... show more

Good sound, could use better software

Good sound for the money. Looks nice on a shelf. Set up was pretty easy after it downloaded updates. My problem is with the HEOS app, which I use for Amazon Music. HEOS has much less info than the Amazon music app about the music I choose -- and finding the albums and songs is more difficult. It's nice that in addition to Wi-Fi, I can also stream to the speaker via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, for some reason I always need to reconnect the speaker via Bluetooth each time I stream with it. Excellent sound in small package. Easy setup.

I wanted a portable wifi+bluetooth speaker with good sound quality and dependable performance. This one delivers. The sound quality is better than I expected for the money; quite satisfying to me. Yes, I think the bass is a little strong, as others have noted, but I think that is adjustable. Actually, I have not tried adjusting it because it does not bother me much. I wanted the unit in one package, like this one, so it would be easy to move from room to room. The downside of a single small unit might be stereo separation, but the technology in this unit delivers a good result in that sense also. The install was easy following the directions on the app. It connected with my wifi with no problems. It works with iTunes. I would buy this again. Great Sound but at What Cost

I have had this 250 now for about two months and have had some time to finally adjust however there are just several nuances that drive me nuts. Let's start with the good, sound, is amazing. The HEOS app allows me to EQ it to my taste and overall does a good job. I used this in my office for a few days just to get it going and overall I was impressed in a 12x12 room. I purchased this to use my home gym which is a little larger size room and as equally filling sound and can get loud with no distortion. Now the bad.... When I walk into the room, my phone seems to know this speaker is nearby and allows me to Airplay to it. The problem is the initial connection. 90% of the time it connects starts to play yet I get no sound. About 10 - 20 sec of me realizing it's a lost cause, the speaker looks like it reboots and blinks feverishly pinks blues and who knows what else. I can then select the speaker from the list of all speakers and I am off to the races but it's a min or two every time and just just nuts. I have never had such an issue with the half dozen HomePods in the house, the Marantz gear, etc this thing is a pretty consistent failure here. Issue 2, the volume does not always work in the Apple Music app. I turn it up and does nothing, sometime it incrementally increases sometime it lowers the volume. I find myself having to tinker with it as part of the reconnection which adds yet more delays. I found that if I used the HEOS app success is pretty good but I don't want to use it nor should I have to. Issue 3 and this is pretty minor but annoying. I at one point gave up on Airplay and just went back to Bluetooth which I used with my older speaker. All is good from connectivity albeit a little slow now this is important. I for some reason use display the lyrics when on the treadmill or trainer. The speakers output is about 3 - 5 seconds behind everything so the lyrics never match. I don't get why every other speaker I have owned in the last like 12 years have never had such an issue yet this does. The HEOS app is a love it or hate it thing, perhaps the moist polarizing thing about any Sound United offering. I don't mind it and use it with my ND8006 but that is a different use case. With that said, it's executive overkill for just Airplay or Bluetooth transmission and it appears at least one of my issues is somewhat addressed if I use it. I am fairly neutral on this. So, the sound it pretty good for the speaker and for this I am valuing the sound quality over some of these annoying things. With that said, it's obnoxiously expensive for what it is and completely unacceptable for these issues to be seen, it's unacceptable even at a $100 price point. Perhaps these issues are just with my speaker however I did a ton of research on a new speaker before buying and software and other quirks seem to be commonplace. Why did I buy this over any other, well I tried a few others and this and the sound signature was what hooked me. I'd still be using my old Creative D200 but the bluetooth button broke after 10 years of use. Sound quality though is 30x better. ... show more

Easy set up great sound.

It’s early days as I have just set it up up but I feel fairly qualified to judge given that I have a very good Marantz / Polk set up in the main room and this is an accessory sound system elsewhere. So far, very easy to add to my HEOS system, and it’s got a wonderful crisp sound with good heavy bass all of which of course is customizable in the HEOS app. So delighted so far.
