The SONOS port (which replaces and costs much more than their older Connect) is designed to be a hub or bridge to or among other SONOS products (primarily speakers). It is wicked easy to install and configure with the SONOS app (I used an iPhone but it works equally well with Android). BUT... (1) It is expensive to a tool that does only one thing. (2) Configuring the source that one outputs into the SONOS port depends on the way that source is defined and SONOS only tells you which ports to use for input and output and to push the button to link to a Newtork or Bluetooth. (3) For making an AV/Stereo receiver work with SONOS port you will need either good documentation from the manufacturer of the source or some kind citizen in a support grou[ who has been there and done that. (4) It took me several hours a day for 5 days to make it play nicely with my Onkyo 6100 A/V receiver, with ZERO help from Onkyo. (5) Now that it is set up and working, it is great. So, check in advance that you have the information about configuring your source.

Great addition to my sound system I bought the Sonos port in almost new condition, and literally was almost new, the old buyer just pulled the port of out the bag and returned, the wires were in their original sealed bag. At the first time I struggled to set it up, but once is working it just work every single time without any issues. I guess is a matter of luck when you buy “almost new” products, this time I had very good luck

Great when it works. Just know it will probably go offline every few weeks and to get it back online usually requires a call to support. The app has been far from fixed. Everything just went offline, I was able to get the speakers back by moving the volume. The Ports, nothing. The light is green, indicating it's working, but nothing. Tried to powering off to restart, nothing. Another fun call to support. I wish a company would integrate Sonos products, so I could never use their app again. They keep claiming they have fixed the app, if this is their idea of fixed, they need to go to the corporate graveyard.

This is my second Sonos, first I had the Connect and now the Port. The connect lasted 10 years plus. I am very happy with the port and it does everything I need, it just is quite an expensive piece of kit.

I struggled for a lot of time trying to combine a Bose L1 (outside for events) with Sonos speakers inside home. Airplay just didn’t work because it added delay to Sonos existing delay. Now I can have my house Sonos speakers perfectly in sync with my external Bose speakers (connected via RCA cables), all using Sonos sync and no more unreliable AirPlay+Sonos combination. The product should cost more like 199$ So it hurts but I must admit that yes 250$ more were worth it for finally solving my sync issues forever.

Great way to integrate a 2 channel system into a Sonos environment. I use the RCA digital out to connect to an Aesthetix Romulus DAC, analog RCA out goes to preamp to use when the DAC is off. I also connect the record out of the preamp to the RCA in to dispute whatever is on the 2 channel system throughout the Sonos environment. Obvious connection points but some folks like the details. With this setup I can listen to the same music on the deck via the Sonos move as I have on the main 2 channel system. If the music is recorded well it sounds good via the Port. Not as good as it would directly through a high quality DAC but very useable.

Lots of reviews already out there pointing out how this product is way over-priced. Every speaker has one of these inside, plus an amp and speaker, but without the outputs and you can get them for half the price. So, clearly, Sonos prices this based on their perceived value to the customer and completely detached from the cost of goods, but that's not uncommon. I will say it is too bad. I'd buy 12 of them if they were priced at $200 and I think they'd still make good money. I actually have 12 of the older Connect devices that they are trying to coerce me to upgrade but even with the offered 30% discount, it's too much, especially for marginal benefit. So, my real point in writing a review is to point out the painful experience of the setup process and added cost of personal information demanded. The app required both my location information and microphone access to perform setup. Neither of these is necessary. I tried setting the location setting to "once" and it went a ways through the setup and then seemed to try to access my location again, couldn't, and without asking, aborted the setup and forced me to start from scratch again. It claims to need this to know about my networks, but even with my location it doesn't know about my network, so that's false. This is just extortion of personal information and it seems to be a new fad with app makers. The microphone access is another fallacy. The port doesn't even have a speaker and I don't have one anywhere nearby either - I have it connected to a whole house audio distribution system (14 zones, so I guess I really could use 13 more of these at the right price). So, there is no way a microphone is going to help setup. I tried denying it and it wouldn't proceed - just kept sending me back to turn it on. I eventually had to comply and turn on those permissions, but I'll be turning them back off since they are unnecessary. Just another shameful Sonos decision. There are more failings in their setup process. It asked me to sign in to my account. Since I have an existing setup at another location, I already had an account. But, I created it 7 years ago and it had a 7 character password. The new app wouldn't allow me to login with my 7 character password saying 8 characters are required. Hey, guess what? You can't enforce that on login, only when (re)setting a password. Dumb. Fortunately their website let me login and change my password to make it compliant so I could go back to using the app. Also, although the instructions first have you install the device before beginning the setup, you will need to remove the device again or turn it around and get good lighting on it because two steps in the setup require you to enter and 8 digit PIN printed in dark grey on the black background (very hard to see) in about 8 point type. Then, later, you also have to enter the serial number printed above that. I'm sure all that info is readable by the device which they also have you press the button of to confirm physical access and that you are setting up the right unit, so these frustrating steps seem entirely unnecessary. Oh, and they don't tell you this, but the cardboard wrapping the printed instructions came in have these 2 numbers printed on them without any text description. I discovered this 2 days later when I was cleaning up and happened to recognize them. Another problem came with adding in my music services. I said I wanted to add one. Then I selected Amazon Music. It asked for my userID and password, so I entered them and it kept telling me they were wrong. I went to Amazon and verified they were correct. I tried another service and had the same problem. Turns out, it wanted me to re-enter my Sonos ID and password, though it never said so. I'm sure some programmer is sitting there going "I know what I meant when I wrote that!" Cool. Do you know what I think of you right now? So, in the end, you'll only want to get this if you are expanding a Sonos system. There are a great many comparable products out there at reasonable prices that are 1/4 to 1/2 the price. Sonos used to be rather unique, but they've lost that edge and now seem to be milking what they've got in their user base and trying to be a "premium" brand.
