  • These things aren't cheap & you must have the right tools
After installing, it looks like a professional job with solid appearance, much better than the (used to be) clear plastic knurled ball it replaced. I don't know how long this item will remain available, Delta doesn't use this style anymore, and a real plumber may be required, if they these disappear from the market. You must shut off the water to your entire home before installing this fixture. Part of our installation job required a small, reciprocal saw. I just happened to own one, new in the box, for a project my wife never started. If you're unfamiliar with this operation, watch the YouTube videos - two or three times. They will show you a couple of approaches to removing the retaining nut. These did not work for us, leaving the saw as the only alternative. It can be very frustrating to install, and IT IS VERY EASY TO DO SERIOUS DAMAGE to your plumbing. At one point, we were faced with the possibility that we had inflicted enough damage to require calling and waiting for a plumber while all our water service was shut off. Luckily, we hadn't. Following installation, the only problem we have with it, is that the handle points in the wrong direction. We are familiar with the end of the handle pointing through the center, like an arrow, with the center of the fixture being the arrowhead, aimed toward the hot (H) or cold (C) when you turn it on. Not this one. This one is the opposite. The end of the handle, at the bottom of the fixture, is pulled or pushed toward the H or C you desire. It's confusing, but works well once you get that. We found that this is our only option when installing, due to the design of a key part. ... show more

  • Super Simple DIY Install to Update Your Faucet
Let me start by saying I have a tiny bit of knowledge about plumbing — I once fixed a toilet that wouldn’t stop running. Anyways, our 30+ year old shower had a slow drip and the old “crystal ball” faucet was caked with scale. Disgusting. I was determined to change it out but didn’t know where to start, so I found a video on YT called “How to repair a Delta Tub/Shower Valve.” <——Watch this video first before starting your install. The toughest part of this install will be removing the old dome nut. Luckily, after a few good taps with my wrench, it loosened up easily. The rest of the install is fairly straightforward. Also, make sure to use some plumbers grease on all the seals and ball. The total replacement took me about 30 minutes. I read a lot of comments before ordering this kit and I want to address them: 1. Yes, this kit “reverses” the hot and cold. Seriously...people are really complaining about this? Talk about first-world problems. It honestly not that big of a deal, just get use to it. 2. The lever is fairly heavy and will sink a little after opening it up. This also happened in my install and I torqued down the dome nut pretty tight (but not too tight as to twist the entire valve). Once I turned on the water main and tested the shower faucet, it no longer happened. 3. This kit does not come with the large O-ring located on the back of the valve. In my case, I gently removed the old O-ring, cleaned it off (and cleaned the valve), put some plumbers grease on it then reinstalled. If your O-ring is damaged, you can get a replacement at a big box home improvement store for about a buck. 4. The water flow is restricted/slow. I did notice a bit of difference between the new valve and the old one. Personally, it doesn’t really bother me if the shower pressure is a bit weaker. Plus, tub/shower valves and heads are pretty much all low-flow to conserve water, and I’m all for saving water. 5. The new dome nut doesn’t have ridges on top making it difficult to tighten. It does have some small edges near the front of the dome that you can just barely get a pair of channel locks on. I wish these edges were bigger because my pliers did slip a little and I ended up using a strap wrench. Overall, I was pleased with the ease of install and the quality of the parts. ... show more
