  • Works like a champ, but controls are a bit mysterious
Color: Light Gray - Comfort Temp Pattern Name: Radiator
I got this because I needed some supplemental heat while waiting for one of my two HVAC units to get serviced for a mystery noise. Given that I work from home and spend almost all my time on one floor, which is open plan, it also seemed a waste to keep the thermostat up high on both floors for extra heating that no one would use. By that same token, I didn't want to keep high power heating four empty bedrooms all night when I only need to heat two rooms to comfort levels. This thing does the trick! Choosing this unit was based on several factors that might be important to other users: Noise level, safety, use while sleeping, area heated, ease of use, and temperature control. I'll rate each factor. Noise Level: Excellent - This thing is utterly silent except for expansion and contraction pings every once in a while. Those are nothing and don't even disturb sleep. It's simply from the metal being heated. Safety: Excellent - I've been running this thing almost 24/7 and I've got to say, I'm no longer paranoid about it. Because it's sealed and has no fans, it's probably the safest bet for those who want supplemental heat on a heavy use basis. Use While Sleeping: Excellent and Secure - This is probably the biggest concern for me. Almost every thing I looked at had these ridiculous warnings not to use them while sleeping. Given that's when a lot of people would most need it, I found that frustrating. After a lot of searching, I found some guidance suggesting that radiant heat, like old school radiators, are the safest option for sleepers. Turns out that's been true in my case. This thing absolutely does the trick. I put it at one end of the hallway and keep the doors to the two rooms in use open. Even on medium power both rooms remain toasty all night and allow me to turn the HVAC down to all the rest of the bedrooms. Given the size of the house, that's not a small savings. It's a big one. If this were in an enclosed bedroom and the only room that needed heating, it would absolutely do the trick even in freezing weather. Area Heated: Excellent - I was actually surprised by how much this unit heats. I'm not sure if it's that my house isn't old or is decently (though not excellently) insulated, but this unit does a lot more than I expected. Despite the fact that there's no noisy fan to blow the hot air, it keeps about 480 square feet at 68 while the rest of the upper floor is at 62-64. That's a pretty big lift when the temperature outside is 30. Ease of Use and Temperature Control: Mysterious - Okay, I know that's not a rating, but that's the truth. I'm used to owner's manuals that say what watts go with what switch and so on. Nope, not this thing. It has zero about energy usage or even what the switches actually do with respect to power. There are two switches marked Min and Med. Both switches flipped equals High. According to a question asked by another consumer, those equate to 700w/800w/1500w. Why does this matter? Well, for me it's about power usage but also safety. I'd prefer not to use the 1500w setting when I'm not awake (or at all really because I don't want my wiring to get hot). Paranoid of fire, I suppose. Now, I have used it on high and it was perfectly fine, even when I did it all day long, but I don't want to. I'd prefer less opaque instructions as well. I shouldn't have to research to find out the power usage. Also, I have no idea what comfort temp does other than make a very bright green light. It doesn't seem to do anything that I've seen, but probably does work for anti-freezing purposes. Also, the rotary temperature thing? Yeah, no clue. Maybe it's just psychological because I can't see a difference. My bottom line on this units is that the Med setting is pretty much perfect to lift the temp to comfortable in a big area and allow the thermostats to come down for the rest of the house. And it will do it quietly and without a great deal of fuss. That's all it needs to do. ... show more

  • Great heater for my home office
Color: Light Gray - Comfort Temp Pattern Name: Radiator
The house. has central gas-fired forced hot-air. So, while working at home in my home office, I. use this to keep my office comfortable without incurring the costs of heating the whole place. Its controls are straightforward. It is, of course, quiet; only an occasional click as the thermostat threshold is crossed. Additionally, it is kind of a soft even heat. If you have experienced the heat of a larger-sized hearthstone woodturning stove, as I did when I lived in Massachusetts, it seems like a gentle. steady, but wonderfully warm heat. This heater is like that. The oil and metal (as did the stone walls of that stove) smooths out the temperature differences; even when the power to the heating elements is off (when the temps have reached above the thermostat setting), there is still this nice warmth. It has little wheels and adequate power cord length which makes it convenient to push into and out of the center of the room. I also chose this manufacturer for their reputation. We will see. :) I haven't tested the safety features. I expect that I will save significant heating costs from the last two years working at home over the winter months. ... show more

  • Delonghi is my to go brand. Never disappoints
Color: Black Pattern Name: Radiator
I live in the Midwest with harsh winters. This particular room is not well heated by forced-air heat and it sits on a slab (no basement or crawl space underneath). It is 13x15. This particular model heats this room in approximate 15 minutes. No smell, just nice radiant heat throughout. It is not bulky - it just fits about anywhere in the room (provided it has sufficient air flow) and it doesn't clash with decor. My only problem with this particular model is the temperature setting. I set it for minimum, at "zero" and still releases high heat. My door became my temperature setting, meaning if I want less heat I open bedroom door all the way, if I want less, I open a quarter of the way or less. I still love it though. I recommend for you to invest on a Delonghi model with better temperature control and auto shut off. My other Delonghi is still going strong after 22 years. ... show more

  • Awesome heater!
Color: Black Pattern Name: Radiator
Works very well. Has nice features. Very good for a smaller room.

  • Warm and quiet
Color: Black Pattern Name: Radiator
I'm happy with this radiator. I have an older model that's served me well that was moved to another room that stays colder than avg house temperature. This one looks the same basically, except this has the Comfort Temp button. I'm not sure that feature is useful for me. The few times I've tried it, the temp is raised too much. I prefer just switching it on High initially to get it up to temp quickly then to low or medium with thermostat setting at 3 1/2. Some reviewers complained they can't feel the heat unless they are very close to it. They seem to prefer fan forced heaters instead. Those are noisy and get dusty IMO. This heater is dead silent. There's maybe a few ticks as it heats up; like metal expansion sounds. I love that it's quiet. When I turn it on, I expect it will be about 20 minutes before the room is warmed. Fan forced heaters may feel warmer because they blow at you directly. So keep that difference in mind. Note that you can turn it off and it will still radiate heat for a bit as the oil and metal is a heat sink. The core can get pretty hot to the touch; the fins are cooler since they radiate the heat into the air. Small children should be made aware or they may learn a quick lesson! As for straight wattages pulled, I got 675, 755 & 1345 for L/M/H settings. It drops to 3 watts once the set temp is reached. No issues running on a 15 amp breaker. ... show more
