  • Works like a champ, but controls are a bit mysterious
Color: Light Gray - Comfort Temp
I got this because I needed some supplemental heat while waiting for one of my two HVAC units to get serviced for a mystery noise. Given that I work from home and spend almost all my time on one floor, which is open plan, it also seemed a waste to keep the thermostat up high on both floors for extra heating that no one would use. By that same token, I didn't want to keep high power heating four empty bedrooms all night when I only need to heat two rooms to comfort levels. This thing does the trick! Choosing this unit was based on several factors that might be important to other users: Noise level, safety, use while sleeping, area heated, ease of use, and temperature control. I'll rate each factor. Noise Level: Excellent - This thing is utterly silent except for expansion and contraction pings every once in a while. Those are nothing and don't even disturb sleep. It's simply from the metal being heated. Safety: Excellent - I've been running this thing almost 24/7 and I've got to say, I'm no longer paranoid about it. Because it's sealed and has no fans, it's probably the safest bet for those who want supplemental heat on a heavy use basis. Use While Sleeping: Excellent and Secure - This is probably the biggest concern for me. Almost every thing I looked at had these ridiculous warnings not to use them while sleeping. Given that's when a lot of people would most need it, I found that frustrating. After a lot of searching, I found some guidance suggesting that radiant heat, like old school radiators, are the safest option for sleepers. Turns out that's been true in my case. This thing absolutely does the trick. I put it at one end of the hallway and keep the doors to the two rooms in use open. Even on medium power both rooms remain toasty all night and allow me to turn the HVAC down to all the rest of the bedrooms. Given the size of the house, that's not a small savings. It's a big one. If this were in an enclosed bedroom and the only room that needed heating, it would absolutely do the trick even in freezing weather. Area Heated: Excellent - I was actually surprised by how much this unit heats. I'm not sure if it's that my house isn't old or is decently (though not excellently) insulated, but this unit does a lot more than I expected. Despite the fact that there's no noisy fan to blow the hot air, it keeps about 480 square feet at 68 while the rest of the upper floor is at 62-64. That's a pretty big lift when the temperature outside is 30. Ease of Use and Temperature Control: Mysterious - Okay, I know that's not a rating, but that's the truth. I'm used to owner's manuals that say what watts go with what switch and so on. Nope, not this thing. It has zero about energy usage or even what the switches actually do with respect to power. There are two switches marked Min and Med. Both switches flipped equals High. According to a question asked by another consumer, those equate to 700w/800w/1500w. Why does this matter? Well, for me it's about power usage but also safety. I'd prefer not to use the 1500w setting when I'm not awake (or at all really because I don't want my wiring to get hot). Paranoid of fire, I suppose. Now, I have used it on high and it was perfectly fine, even when I did it all day long, but I don't want to. I'd prefer less opaque instructions as well. I shouldn't have to research to find out the power usage. Also, I have no idea what comfort temp does other than make a very bright green light. It doesn't seem to do anything that I've seen, but probably does work for anti-freezing purposes. Also, the rotary temperature thing? Yeah, no clue. Maybe it's just psychological because I can't see a difference. My bottom line on this units is that the Med setting is pretty much perfect to lift the temp to comfortable in a big area and allow the thermostats to come down for the rest of the house. And it will do it quietly and without a great deal of fuss. That's all it needs to do. ... show more

  • I love these heaters. They aren't really for big rooms but it works great in close proximity to me.
Color: Light Gray - Comfort Temp
I liked that it keeps me warm close to my chair. The temp thermostat works great.

  • Delonghi is my to go brand. Never disappoints
Color: Black
I live in the Midwest with harsh winters. This particular room is not well heated by forced-air heat and it sits on a slab (no basement or crawl space underneath). It is 13x15. This particular model heats this room in approximate 15 minutes. No smell, just nice radiant heat throughout. It is not bulky - it just fits about anywhere in the room (provided it has sufficient air flow) and it doesn't clash with decor. My only problem with this particular model is the temperature setting. I set it for minimum, at "zero" and still releases high heat. My door became my temperature setting, meaning if I want less heat I open bedroom door all the way, if I want less, I open a quarter of the way or less. I still love it though. I recommend for you to invest on a Delonghi model with better temperature control and auto shut off. My other Delonghi is still going strong after 22 years. ... show more

  • The Ron Popeil of space heaters - set it and forget it
Color: Black
Not really sure why the black model is priced $20 less than the white one (as of 9/30/22), but hey, good for my wallet, so I bought a couple. One to keep my sailboat warm during the fall/winter, the other for our furnished basement, which needs space heaters since we don't have a heat register in it. The residual heat from the boiler, coupled with a space heater, helps to keep it toasty. Been using these sealed oil-filled units for years, as I feel they are not only the most economical, but also the most efficient and safe. This model has a unique "Comfort Setting" feature that I'm still not quite sure works the way I want, but no matter, it's easy to override and set the temp however you'd like it. On my boat the other night, it dipped down into the high 40's outside, but inside, the heater kept it between 68-72. It does make a "Click" sound when it cycles while maintaining temps, and while that doesn't bother me, it seems there are others more sensitive to the sound, so just be aware. It's easy to move, easy to store the cord - which is plenty long enough - and it's easy to operate. Get one before a cold snap hits and the price gets driven up. ... show more

  • It's great! Heats up my 12x16 room quick
Color: Black
12/2022: Bought two of these heaters back in winter of 2020. Still going strong. I have four bedrooms on one floor. I put one of them in the hallway and turn the ceiling fan on low with the air going upwards (downwards for summer). The heater is probably 6-8ft from two door ways. This heater is on ‘Med’ setting and on ‘6’ at night. The second goes into the bigger room at the end that has three exterior walls. ‘Min’ at ‘4’. Both are very good at heating up the level. I think it’s also very helpful if you I have ceiling fans to help circulate the air. I noticed it makes a big difference. Buying another one this month for the basement. Pros: quiet and efficient. Con: maybe having a number system for thermostat. Safety: I check my heaters frequently. They always seems to regulate the temperature as needed. When the weather/room gets a warmer, the heater cools off. Edit 1/19/21: So I found out what the ComfortTemp button does or what I think it does. When it is 'on' (green light on), it automatically heats up the radiator to whatever the manufacturer programmed as 'comfortable temperature'. I'm guessing somewhere around 70ish room temp. When it is off, the heater relies on the dial only. I am sort of confident this is how it works because I turned the dial down low, had the ComfortTemp on, and switched the 'Min' switch on. Well, I accidentally touched it and it was hot! Didn't expect it...and the room was rather cool. So then I turned off the ComfortTemp and kept the same settings. 20min later, the radiator is much cooler as expected. ... show more
