    • Mine was all it’s cracked up to be!
My furnace needs servicing and won’t heat the air. It’s February and we’re having our annual cold snap in south Texas. I read through the reviews and read through the horror stories of ruptured heaters spraying hot oil and thermostats failing so the unit won’t heat up, etc. I decided to give it a try anyway because the space heater I was using had a loud fan and, being the type that blows air over heated coils, was drying the air out so badly that I was getting nose bleeds at night. I have to say, while I think there have been some quality control issues for other shoppers, the unit I received is all it’s advertised to be. So far, I’ve had absolutely NO issues at all. I read about the “new electronic” smell so I first turned it on in the garage. I noticed a VERY FAINT electrical appliance smell like you get when you first turn on your iron. Nothing pungent at all and almost undetectable. I literally had to put my face down and sniff the radiator fins to detect it. I let the radiator heat up in the garage for 20 minutes to off-gas any little odors. PRO TIP: Before you fire this up for the first time after getting it out of the box, be sure to completely vacuum it off. I noticed several, very small styrofoam balls on the unit from the packaging. If you don’t get those off before you heat the unit, it will certainly give off a nasty odor as the styrofoam burns. I had no issues with the plug getting hot, no issues with odor, no issue with it not heating up, no issues with it heating up the control panel where you touch it, no issues with noise. No issues at all SO FAR. Mine doesn’t even make the ticks and drips noises as the oil heats up. The only sound this makes at all is the occasional click as the thermostat turns on and off. I’ve used this for 2 nights so far and it has worked flawlessly. If you run a small quiet fan behind it, it will heat up a room faster. PRO TIP: Another thing that helps is to run a humidifier in the room. The humidity helps to hold heat in the air, and it will feel more evenly dispersed. Rather than just being warm by the heater, the moisture will help spread the heat throughout the room. I was actually planning on returning this because I wasn’t sure I’d be worth the money. Now, I’m thinking about buying a second one to put in my daughter’s room. ... show more

    • Tried and true classic without needless electronics
We were using DeLonghi radiator heaters going back to the 80's so this is the brand I trust the most because those heaters never let us down even in the harshest Midwest winters and I would bet that those same heaters still work if someone finds them. So now in the present time I needed a heater to help give the central heating a break in an upcoming winter storm for an elderly family member who is kind of afraid that portable heaters start fires and rarely used the fan style one I had got her a few years earlier even though there was nothing wrong with that and it was perfectly safe. Since she also remembers using these radiator style heaters, we decided to get one. I tried finding one locally at the big box stores but the ones they had have a digital control panel and maybe it's because I'm old now too but I just don't trust them to be as reliable as just a simple "low, medium, high" setting with a manual thermostat. It's also a lot easier. Yeah you don't know exactly what the temperature is but then you won't know exactly what the room temperature is with the digital ones either. As I type this, we are going on day 2 of using this and it's been great. There is one bedroom that just doesn't get enough air through the central heating and this was able to keep it at a comfortable sleeping temperature on the low setting when it was 27 degrees outside. Keep in mind that the part of the country I'm in now isn't ready for winters so the houses don't have that much insulation. Tonight we are getting down in the teens so I'll probably use the medium setting. As far as power settings go, I decided to test it using my Jackery power station and it looked like the low setting was using around 650 watts while the medium was using around 750 watts and when you flip both switches it'll add the two. It's officially rated at 1500 watts but it seems like it's a shade under that which is good since the maximum continuous load you can have on a 15 amp breaker is 1440 watts. Just keep that in mind if you're plugging it into a regular outlet in your house since chances are it's a 15 amp circuit because if you have anything else on the same circuit, you'll risk tripping the breaker if you put this on high. I would really recommend a 20 amp circuit if you're going to go high but honestly, low and medium put out a lot of heat too. Overall, this is the best portable heater out there. ... show more
