I bought these because like a crazy person I enjoy making ethernet cables over buying premade ones. Something I have struggled with though is stripping cable without cutting the insulation of the internal wiring. I have used mostly those cheap tools that consist of a razor set against a cutout that scores the material but had proven to be the part of the process that irritates me. This thing has done a good job on the tests that I have run of hold onto one end of the cable and then pulling the sheathing off or at least separating the sheathing and beginning its path off the cable. It does this by applying pressure to two side of the cable with pointy but not sharpened metal pieces and then pulling. It seems to separate the sheath at the stress concentration and then do the actual split by use of tearing rather than cutting. I end up with a clean concentric break and everyone is happy. I also tested this out on the internal twisted pairs as well and found that this can work very well at stripping those as well. I know you don't need to strip those but at times I'll use those wires for other projects. The tool does have a copy of things I don't like for my purposes. The adjustable stripping length mechanism has plenty of room to be extended but wasn't so you can only get about an inch without disengaging it altogether. Not a big deal but I wish it were just a tad bit longer. In addition, the cutting blade between the two handles doesn't perform the cut in a fully straight manner but sort of rocks from top to bottom. This can cause what you are cutting to try and move down and unless you squeeze the handles hard and keep that cable secure it may not cut all the way through. For single cable cuts it seems to do better but when doing multiple of the twisted pairs it has been a bit of a challenge.

I have a collection of wire strip tools and in general you get what you pay for. Most cheaper ones are just as likely to cut a wire as to strip it so I recommend buying the best tool you can afford. This “deli self-adjusting wire stripper” is competitively priced but is still worth considering for lighter use. Unlike more expensive tools, some parts are made of plastic but the all-important jaws and the other moving parts are metal. In operation I find the combination of metal and plastic to work very well. The cutting blade is stainless steel and the crimping cutouts appear to mesh well. If you are a journeyman electrician with heavy duty needs then perhaps look elsewhere but for the average electronics hobbyist with more “occasional” needs I think this tool is a great choice. The tool feels solid in the hand, grip and feel are good and the price is reasonable. I tried a variety of different wire gauges and between the self-aligning jaws and the adjustable strength the tool stripped insulation without damaging the wire. Recommended. Packaging is a simple card plus blisterpack.

Loves these things. Have several pair now because it seems like they are always where I am not. I use these for a lot of little projects where I tend to be crimping connectors on to something. I can set the desired length and strip the wires in a snap. If you havent used these and are thinking about it, give them a try. I dont think you will regret it. I end up with way better results than just about any other way I have used to strip wired before.

This is exactly what I've been needing since our old wire stripper broke after many years of use. This works very similarly and feels like it is of decent quality. The handle is comfortable to hold, the tool overall feels like it has some heft and isn't just cheaply made with plastic and low quality metal. Hopefully it lasts us a long time, but I'll update if I have any issues.

Didn't how how much I needed a new tool for wire work until I got this one, heaver than most I have used but a lot to do with the multi functions and the quality of the tool. Easy to use stripping wire. cutting and crimping this is a must have tool. Love it!!!
