  • Easy set up, ready to work right out of the box, clear and bright views!!!
Size: 2 Cameras
Used to replace a worn out First Alert system of one camera that was protecting my garage, car park, alley, and back yard. Two cameras now cover more of that space and the resolution is fantastic (clear details, and in bright colors). Not much instructions, so first timers might want to consult the online instruction book. Nothing to do really, remove from various plastic bags, attach cables (snap in) in all three pieces, and screw in the antennas and stands on the cameras. Plug in all three parts to a suitable surge protector (I like my new Revolve w/ rotating plugs to hold all the oversized adapters). Cameras immediately come on. Fool a bit with the settings, how long to record, etc. Personal preference really. I did not consult the online instructions. Then being a lazy sort of homeowner, I merely popped them on my inside window sill, pulled up the two corners of the screen and adjusted them to the right angle and closed the storm window(there is a roof overhang so window sill does not get wet). This gives me great wide look at whole backyard in both directions. Moved monitor to the bedroom directly west of the cameras and the whole system works beautifully (there is even a window a/c in this room and no problem with interference at all. This is a second floor application so the view is fantastic. This is a well made system, ie screen has an adjustable sturdy plastic foot, cameras are solid and stands easily adjust angles. While screen is plastic, cameras appear to be all metal of heavy duty weight. They stood up on their own with a little nudge and no fastening down. Fussy homeowners can hang out the window and fasten the cameras anywhere they like. Comes with two cameras, two stands, and three cords/adapters, slightly cheap fasteners for permanently fastening to house. Get some small (2"x2") decals that tell neighbors you have security cameras (if they have good eyes to see fine print). I would suggest ordering a BIG security camera sign on Amazon (I still had trouble with neighbors until the big signs went up, and now they run past property instead of stopping to look in my car windows). Also receive a little plastic pick for resetting device that looks like a dental floss pick that I will promptly lose. Few instructions, a few small paper directions on how to pair up the cameras if you have problem. They arrive paired up, so no problem there at all. Otherwise, consult the instruction book online if you are fussy and want to know every detail before you open box. But with just experience with an old, outdated system with one camera, I had system working in 5 minutes. Very pleased with this system, very detailed, beautiful resolution and color. Well made, sturdy, and easy to set up. ... show more

  • A baby monitor with four cameras
Size: 3 Cameras
Essentially what you are getting with this camera system is an overpriced baby monitor that has four cameras. I like the simple Old School idea behind this unit, but it is drastically over priced for what it is. The Pros: • No internet required. ( For some this not a good thing as you can't view on your phone when you are away. ) • Simple Set Up - Straight Forward Common Sense usage. Most people could set this up without directions. • No one is hacking into your in home activities like some of the Internet based systems. • The simple presence of actual security cameras can deter criminals. So the sophistication of the until doesn't always matter. Cons: • If you have the monitor on sleep mode, the camera will activate upon motion detection. HOWEVER, there is a delay, so by the time the monitor turns on, the motion is passed and you have no idea if it was a person or a animal or a passing car b/c they are usually out of the frame by the time screen activates So you have to leave the screen on at all times - always have on record. • It is 480 OTA resolution, which is 1980's TV quality. I realize as long as it is OTA, its the best that can be done, it's a trade off for having a wireless transmission. (however, each camera has a plug, so it is not completely wireless). As long as the person is close to the camera, the quality is good enough, but if the person is 25 ft away, you aren't going to have a good resolution on them. I like the system overall, it's pretty much the only of it's kind still on the market. It is definitely overpriced. ... show more

  • A good system, with a few reservations.
Size: 2 Cameras
This is an OK system, it is easy to set up and install, resolution is more than adequate for the application, although not hi def. The wireless camera range seems really good, the lenses are wide angle so depth of field is great and affords good coverage even for close objects. But I downrated it one star for a few reasons. First, the instructions that come with the unit are totally inadequate for operation and give no clue how to reach customer service or that a complete manual and customer service are available on line. Second, You cannot flip the image 90 or 180 degrees on the monitor.which is a nice feature if you have to mount the camera upside down, like under a roof eve. And, lastly, although the camera is claimed to be weatherproof it doesn't look like it to me. I don't see the construction detail and gaskets one sees on truly weatherproof electronics, like for marine use. But the price point for those kinds of units is far higher than for these units. I used some liquid electrical tape (in hardware stores) to seal up the various points that looked vulnerable to me. I have only had the system up for 3 days so can't speak to it's reliability but don't see any red flags so it's likely to be OK. ... show more
