UPDATE: While the coffee is good, customer service is not great. Had an issue with the unit 3 months after purchase. It would not recognize when the water tank was full, telling me to add water. Then it wouldn't go through the descaling cycle, then it wouldn't work on anything other than the 16oz cup. Had to return unit for repair; took multiple phone calls to convince CS about issue but they finally sent a box for returning product. Received unit back and as another reviewer wrote, the water tank platform was broken during shipping so now coffee stained water expells from the bottom of the unit and all over the counter. Have another call in to CS for repair. Ive had the unit about a year and 2 months. It hasn't been smooth sailing, but the coffee is pretty good. June 2023/Original purchase time window: I just got this yesterday. The set up process will intimidate you but once you read the instruction manual and get familiar with the unit, there’s nothing to it and it makes wonderful coffee! We set it to auto brew this morning and I barely heard the grinder from our bedroom (I’m a lite sleeper!) Can’t wait to try the single serve. Will post an update later on. Clean up was minimal and simple. Update: almost a week with this machine and still great tasting coffee!! Single cup at the touch of a button (after we finish morning carafe) Do notice a HUGE positive: coffee puck is so dry it doesn’t cause that horrible smell sitting in our tall garbage can after a day or 2. We used to wrap the old paper filter (old coffee machine) full of wet grinds in a shopping bag to reduce smell. Not necessary any more! Again, cleaning unit after daily use (I’m ocd) is minimal and easy! My husband was initially not on board with this purchase but now I can’t get him away from it, nor have I seen his percolated any where 🤨

Insanely BAD customer support from Delonghi, I purchased this machine on January 9. I had one prior to this one and am very familiar with it. Although it's very messy and a pain to clean, it really does make great coffee. So I got a new one because I really wanted the carafe feature. From day one, no water came out, and when the infuser moves it pushes the front panel out because it's coming down crooked. I called Delonghi and they promised it would be easy and quick to resolve this. They sent me an email asking for videos/pictures/proof of purchase, which I sent back the very next day. Then I get an email saying they can't open the videos, can I please put I a dropbox, so I did that. Then a couple days later I get another email saying they can't open the link, so I sent a new ling. A few days later get another email asking for a copy of the invoice (which I had already sent) so I sent it again. Then another email asking for a picture of the serial number from the inside of the machine. Now 10 days has gone by and I received an email today they can't open the videos. So I called back and talked to Marvin, who explained to me that the machine has a bubble and I need to try and fix that, and I told him the infuser is coming down crooked and he said I didn't send proof of that. I said I did, it's in the video and he said he couldn't really tell. I asked to speak to a manager and he said he couldn't transfer me to a manager because I hadn't provided enough proof. The bottom line is that this is NOT a cheap machine, and for what they cost they should be providing excellent customer service, not making this a total nightmare trying to provide the proof they want. So very very very disappointed...

This coffee maker works great for us: Grinds your beans on demand Select your coffee “cup” size Easy to clean compared with past machines However: PLEASE read other reviews on the initial setup. You must make, and trash, 6-8 “cups” of coffee (I did 16 ounce size, and tossed 8.) It primes your coffee maker.) The coffee making process grinds the beans, brews the coffee, then compresses the grounds into a puck. It then rinses off the equipment. This process is a bit messy. It CAN leak under the machine. If you want this machine, clean it up. If you don’t want to clean, buy a different machine. Makes a delicious cup of coffee!

If you are a high-volume drinker this machine will need to be cleaned about every third cup. It doesn't tell you it has to be cleaned until you have powered the machine up and it has gone through the startup process then you need to shut it down another process in order to get the infuser in the correct position. After around 2.5 to 3 weeks, it started giving an error light getting into the book it the light indicates that the infuser didn't properly seat. When it does this, it does not go through the full shut down sequence, so you first need to unplug the unit plug it back in start it up then shut it down. ugggg. Now you need to pull out the far to small waste bin and using a paper towel reach inside the unit up and to the right to find the stationary part of the grounds press. These parts will be covered in grounds, and you need to wipe them clean I didn't find a description of this process anywhere, oh but it did make sure to grind your beans first and then promptly dump them to waste unused. Now that that part is clean you can move forward with all of the cleaning steps that are in the manual. This all being what it is this machine at least mine is an absolute mess inside grounds and water everywhere, including my counter when I pull the waste bin out to clean it. Apart from the cleaning it makes much stronger cup of coffee then most people are used to. I drink almost exclusively coffee throughout the day, and like a decently strong cup of coffee but it is strong for me even on the lightest setting. It appears to use around 1/3 cup of grounds for a 16oz brew, so it goes through the bean's hopper pretty quickly. All in all, I would return it if I could, but I am outside the window. If you just want a decent cup of drip coffee, I recommend that you look elsewhere. For the price you pay for this machine better strength control shouldn't be too much to ask. Also, maybe white plastic inside the machine there were grounds in places that were extremely hard to see, and I didn't until they start to turn white and hairy. When moving the machine to the shelf in the garage I found mold in the ground coffee shoot.

This was my second attempt to purchase a coffeemaker that grinds on demand. The first brand was too messy, and the filtration was lacking. This DeLonghi brand is far superior, not much mess and much better filtration. Pros: Love the freshness, speed, and ability to select one of three water temp settings. Cons: You will love it and end up investing more in coffee purchases, maker is predefined in how much coffee it feels is necessary to brew. So here are things DeLonghi could improve… Carafe size is too small, basically 3 kitchen cupboard cups. Coffee bin for used grounds requires emptying pretty often. Not that big of a concern, but would be nice if it had a bigger capacity. Water reservoir lid is easily falls in tank. Would love the ability to customize the quantity of coffee used per cup, mug, carafe. Would love if you could put beans in the ground coffee port. This would allow you to try another variety of bean without have to empty the coffee bean bin, or waiting to use up whatever remains in the bin.

We were concerned about buying this based on bad reviews. Turns out those reviews about cleaning being difficult are indeed whiners when it comes to cleaning. It is a breeze. It tells you when it needs cleaning (after a good number of uses), you easily open it up, and the machine even separates the water and the grounds into two containers you can easily empty and quickly clean. The coffee is some of the best, if not the best we've had. We have used several methods: pods, french press, drips.... The button method requires some learning but even a child can learn them. I would prefer something more like a microware control. Mainly for the Auto Brew option, which is indeed wonderful. A carafe of coffee at 730 every morning for the 3 of us! The "worst" thing that happened is that we couldn't find the "infuser" where it was supposed to be. It turns out that it doesn't seem to come down until after the first time you turn it on... :) We were worried that the documentation wasn't up to date, didn't apply to the 40 oz carafe model, or was build wrong. Of course it wasn't an issue at all although they could have mentioned that sometimes it is not there at the begining.

While we wanted to love this product, the downsides are seeming to outweigh the positives. Positives - it's great to easily select the size of the cup or an entire carafe and go! - the coffee it makes tastes excellent Cons - it is ALWAYS dirty; so much so, I've just gotten into the habit of cleaning it every day. While it only take 5-10 minutes, it's significantly more than we've ever had to do with any other coffee maker - it leaks under the base so there is dirty water on the counter after every use The biggest issue for us has been it won't make a cup of coffee. It will start and get about 30% done and stops and highlights the 'out of water' symbol - even when the water carafe is 3/4 full. We can re-seat it and it doesn't make a difference. Customer Support has been pleasant, but unable to help us correct it. And then they just ghosted us. UPDATE: Customer support finally responded and I believe they have seen this issue before so they asked to have it sent back and they will replace.

This machine was bought to replace a Breville grind and brew machine which I have used for years. I have also owned other grind and brew machines, and also have ground coffee separately from drip coffee machines, such as for a Bunn. So, I have a particular taste expectation for drip, pour-over, or otherwise American-style brewed coffee. I also am quite familiar with the taste of coffee from other brew methods, including Americano, which are quite distinct from the traditional drip coffee. Drip coffee is quite simple, and even though we may haggle over small differences in the flavor due to factors such as brewing temperature, drip coffee makers generally give the unified results in contrast to other methods of brewing coffee. The Breville produces coffee with taste within this class of drip coffee machines. The De'Longhi, which is the subject of this review, does not. To its credit, the De'Longhi is much easier to clean than the Breville, at least as experienced over the first 10 days of use. The Breville required more than just emptying the basket, but required frequent cleaning of the machine itself to keep coffee grounds from interfering with the operation. To make a single cup on the Breville required subsequent emptying of the basket to prepare the machine for another serving. The De'Longhi does not have these issues. Several single-cup servings can be made without servicing the machine. Removing the spent grounds from the machine has been rather simple, only requiring dumping them from their bin and also emptying a small wastewater bin. I will note two detractors from this, though. First, the waste water often is spilled onto other parts of the unit, which means that emptying the bins also requires rinsing of the assembly that holds the waste bins. Second, some the grounds stick to the spent grounds bin and will build up over time, so this bin needs to be rinsed as well. Rinsing the bins and assembly would result in coffee grounds going down the drain, which would be a potential problem, except I still have the strainer basket from the Breville which catches the grounds and keeps the drain clean. When cleaning the Breville, I always used its basket for this purpose, and not having a strainer on the De'Longhi might be something to note of you are concerned about clogging your pipes. The "Over Ice" setting seems to produce acceptable results, which is an option not found on the Breville or many other machines. Although, we get better taste starting from an actual espresso machine brew, the De'Longhi was very close to producing coffee that after adding the other ingredients made what one might expect from Starbucks or another chain famous for such drinks. The same sort of results are found for the "Espresso style" selection, where the flavor and texture hardly can be compared to espresso from an actual espresso machine. If the "espresso style" is used as an ingredient in a latte, we find it acceptable. As I mentioned above, the taste of the coffee from the De'Longhi is not what I expect for drip coffee. It is closer to an Americano taste than the flavor of restaurant-style coffee made in a Bunn or in a Mr. Coffee at home. That the De'Longhi has an "Espresso Style" selection in the size selection could have been a hint before I bought this machine. The grounds from the waste bin appear to be somewhat compressed, although I do not know at what point in the process it does this. The granularity of the grind from the waste bin is rather small - closer to an espresso grind than a grind for drip brewing. There are only a few strength settings: light, gold, or bold. There is also little control over the temperature of the brew. This would make it difficult to tune for the particular flavor of a bean, if the flavor was not already so far off the mark. As it is, the flavor is quite bad. Not so bad that I would throw the cup away, but bad enough that I am still wondering if I should return the machine. What is keeping the De'Longhi here are the advantages of the ease of cleaning and that making single cups is so much more practical than on the Breville, where I am rather forced into making a full pot and then cleaning the machine. I was hoping that maybe the De'Longhi would sort of settle into making better coffee after using it a while, but so far it has not. If I were De'Longhi, I would not have called this a "drip" coffee maker. The flavor is not that of a drip machine. If they would have called it an "Americano coffee maker" it would have created expectations closer to the resulting flavor. I do not like the taste of Americano. I compromise when traveling, because I have to, but it is not what I want at home. Your expectations might be different and you may enjoy the flavor of Americano. If so, this machine might be for you, but I am greatly disappointed. I wish there was some fix for this because otherwise this is a nice machine.
