I purchased this item as one of 2 portable items needed in my family vehicle for road trips and some local trips. (The other was a portable powered tire inflator.) Being in California, it is needed since my family can be in a beach, a desert, snow, etc. in a matter of a few hours or less and it’s is necessary to be prepared. I have bought the DBPower brand before, a former jump starter, and its form factor is convenient. Just like the last one, when you have a car that needs a jump start, you just pop the hood on that vehicle, and for me, power the unit, plug in the specialized plug, wait for the green “ok” light on the connecting plug, connect the positive and negative clamps, wait a bit, then start your vehicle. These are slightly abridged instructions, and it is good to know a few things like this battery will beep at you should the cable be connected to the wrong terminals (polarity) and that for safety, if after 30 seconds of inactivity, the unit will power down to prevent electrical accidents. I got to use this jump starter, and like the older version I have, it’s simple to use and has been intuitive to use. I got to use it over this passed weekend for someone at a nature park who needed a jump / battery died. I’m sure for them it was valuable to have this assistance as they didn’t have a roadside assistance program nor cables handy, and it was easier than having to arrange a second vehicle pull up next to them and join both vehicle’s batteries for a jump. Additionally, convenient for owner is the unit as a kit (with storage and it’s short cables) is more compact than bundled 10-15 ft jumper cables on their own. I would recommend this jump start kit to anyone based on its ease of use and feel it is a good value that will easily pay for itself with a few uses. This version, the 88wh one, is slightly larger that the older model we had, and though I have not tested it, feel good about it’s sturdier feeling build and promise of some water resistance. Being essentially a large battery, I feel comfortable there is a handy built-in flashlight, and it has an sos mode should you chose to use this battery as that kind of a safety beacon in an emergency / etc. For road trips, this device also has 2 USB female plugs if you needed to charge 2 devices on the go. There isn’t anything I could really fault about this product as it performs as expected and on par with the last DBPower jump starter I got for my family. This being newer though, it is slightly larger physically and offers a bit more power capacity. One thing I would recommend is that you buy the DBPower EVO foam hard case for this product. (These should be the last 2 photos and these were not included in the purchase, but available from DBPower.) As is, it only comes with a soft side bag, which I don’t feel offers as much protection as the hard sided case, which was included with the last jump starter model I bought. Please note, it will be a tight fit and wasn’t technically intended, but it is better than to do without. Also the instruction mention having your own universal charger handy to use with the included charging cable, which usually comes with the purchase of most cell phones, iPads, etc. I will update this review as needed. I need to start by saying that I have several other similar devices that I use. They’re not all this powerful. Most of them don’t have the battery life that this one has. All of them will have some sort of a flashlight that can do continuous light, blinking light, SOS. This one is no exception. That is nothing new about that and, if you buy a jump starter, that can also charge electronic devices, you will have the engine start plug, not just the USB out plugs. I have noticed that the ability of a jump starter is a little bit more dependent on the type of car that you’re trying to start , and how far gone its battery is, that then the power of the jump starter. Because if you are able to start your car from the first to jump, then nothing else matters. I don’t know the minimal amount of peak amperage that is required to jump a car but likely it doesn’t have to be very high if you are able to start the car at the first jump. However, having a peak current of 4000 A certainly helps, especially with a difficult car. What’s different about this device is first of all the fact that it has a 10 amp DC output that is not restricted to 12 V, but that goes to 16.8 V. I have not seen one that even has 12V output that is a brick and not a power supply with a handle and of a size to explain the need of the handle. Also, the type C USB port is both input and output which I thought was fantastic. All in all , there is no doubt in my mind that this is the best I have in the house, and I would not hesitate to have this taken with me, in the car, no matter where I go. I have a smaller jump starter by DB Power but recently had to get a larger vehicle. And I had to jump start it after leaving the lights on. It's a three row SUV and this jump starter turned it over right away. It was easy to connect the clips to the battery and from what I could tell there was plenty of power left in it, I probably could've charged a couple of phones and then some. The LED flashlight was fairly powerful too. In others I've seen the light can be kind of weak, the beam isn't very wide and doesn't throw very far, but that's not the case here. I can't speak to the protection system it's supposed to have because I didn't have any problems that would've caused it to kick in. Overall this is a great jump starter to have handy. ... show more

Like the carrying case, you have everything you need in this package. Had 3 of 4 bars full when received which is nice too, being precharged. I highly recommend these over jumper cables due to how convenient they are, and you don't need to find someone else willing to offer up their car to you (and awkwardly park them face to face.) I have one in both cars now, and have been buying extra to have on hand for gifts. The built in flashlight is nice so you dont have to also hold up a separate flashlight or your phone to see what's going on at night. One more tip - make sure you set a reminder to charge the night before a road trip and put it back in your car! ... show more

don't be fooled by this little jump starter- it packs a punch. i bought this for my full sized ford f-250 heavy duty pickup truck as i've gotten stuck with a dead battery a month back. completely fine for a regular car, but designed for a larger vehicle, i now don't have to worry since i got this little baby in my glove compartment. i looked at a bunch of other jump starters, but decided on this one since it has more than twice the peak output for just $20-30 more. better to have peace of mind having a larger capacity alligator clamps come with a copper connection, which are superior (more durable and flexible) versus other alloys, such as aluminum ... show more
