My 5-year-old daughter loves to dance and move and run, but we have a small house. This dance mat reminds me of the old Dance Dance Revolution game from back in the day, only this is all self-contained and doesn't penalize wrong steps. When I first opened the box, I was surprised at how lightweight the product was. I wouldn't recommend wearing shoes on it, but other than that it seems like it can stand up to normal use for quite some time. It does take 4 AA batteries (not included), and the battery compartment is held on by both a plastic clip *and* a screw, so have a screwdriver handy. After turning on the on/off switch on the back of the yellow box, there's a power switch to click on the front. Then the dancer steps on the candy labeled START in the lower left. The mat starts on level 1. At level 1, a nursery rhyme plays and one of the 8 lights on the yellow box lights up. If the dancer doesn't step on the corresponding button on the dance mat, the music will pause and the light will flash. There are no penalties for not stepping on the correct button. Once the dancer has scored 10 or more points by stepping on the correct button, the mat will automatically move on to level 2. At level 2, either 1 or 2 lights will light up on the yellow box. Unlike DDR, the buttons don't have to be pressed at the same time. However, if the wrong button is pressed (and it's pretty sensitive), all lights will vanish and the dancer won't get any points. The game continues advancing through level 3 and 4, which are just different songs with more lights. Level 3 has between 1-3 lights and level 4 has between 1-4 lights. Level 5 is a memory game with 9 mini-levels contained with in it. A dancer has to pass all 9 mini-levels in order to pass level 5. A few other notes: The gear-brain button in the lower right pauses and continues the music. The + and - heart buttons in the upper right and left respectively will raise and lower the volume. The sound quality is fantastic - not tinny or buzzy. Sure, it can get repetitive when a dancer is playing the same level over and over again, but I feel there's enough variety in each song that it's not annoying. My daughter loves the challenge of pressing the buttons before the time runs out, and I love that she's not running around the house being an adorable terror. The game is also intuitive enough that once I told her where the start button was, I was pretty much hands off and she figured out the rest for herself. With a younger child I likely would have had to provide more direction and they might not be as successful with passing the levels. I think 5-8 is a great age range for this product. Any younger and they'll need more guidance than they get enjoyment out of it, and any older and they'd be bored. In all honesty, I would have paid full price for this even if I hadn't received it through Vine. It's a wonderful product.

I got this for my older kids and I to add some fun movement breaks into our day! It is good sized, even for an adult (I put a Rubik's cube on it for size reference) and great for my kids (8 and 11.) It has a volume control which is perfect because it comes on loud. It doesn't take long for us to work through the levels but long enough to get the heart rate up. My kids love the competitive aspect and have a lot of fun with it. We describe it as full body Simon. Great rainy day activity!

Product is functional and my 3 year old loves it. BUT I ordered a new one and received a clearly used one. The box had obviously been opened and re-taped and the product itself was not in the plastic as it should of been if it was a new product. I am noticing this happening more and more with Amazon and it's not okay.

I gifted this for my 8 year old niece for Christmas. There's 3 levels and the buttons correspond well to what the computer says. Now me being a DDR (dance dance revolution) veteran, this was a piece of cake for me. My niece struggled a bit but I know she'll get better. if you're using both feet, this can become a great workout.
