As my dad is getting older and has hunted all his life, I decided to take up hunting this year to spend time with him. While I greatly enjoyed spending time with my dad, the fruits of our hunting trips (no trophy hunts - this is hunting for FOOD) resulted in a rather unexpected bounty. Initially filling my home freezer with venison I quickly came to realize that it was grossly insufficient for the task at hand. Not really having any room in the house, I knew I'd have to put a freezer on my back porch to handle the additional storage. I opted for this freezer because it was garage rated, especially a requirement for our Florida weather when it will be on a porch or in a non-conditioned environment. I ordered it and plugged it in. Not knowing how cold the freezer would get, I turned it up all the way to test while waiting on my additional meat to be processed. Because it was outside, I purchased a remote thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature. And to my surprise, the temperatures in the freezer were lower than -30*F. MUCH colder than I expected. I've turned it up so the temps are just below 0*F and it's not filled with venison and feral hog taken during this past season. Given the low temperatures and overall capabilities of this little freezer thus far I'm quite impressed and it represents a great value for the money. I highly recommend the product. And while damage can occur during shipping, I didn't experience any on the product delivered. This was despite the delivery person 'rolling' the freezer end over end to my front door. ... show more

Freezer was well packaged and arrived with no shipping damage. It looks great. It was easy to move it into place and install it. After letting it settle for 6 hours I plugged it in. This freezer happened to arrive on a day when my region saw record high temperatures. I was installing the freezer in a garage-type space with very little temperature protection. The room was 90⁰F when I nervously plugged the freezer in. The amazing thing? It was keeping ice frozen solid only 6 hours after plugging it in! That's a good freezer. One day later-- more record high temps-- the room temp is 90⁰F again and everything is keeping just fine, including ice cream! I'm also impressed by how quiet this freezer is. I was expecting it to be much louder and I'm very happy it's not. I am curious to see how well it holds up during the cold months, when the room will occasionally drop to 20-30⁰F. As others have pointed out, the printed manual conflicts with the information in this listing and says the freezer cannot handle these temperatures. Danby says the printed manual is simple for another model, and the freezer is in fact garage ready. So far it passed the hot weather test! If it doesn't pass the cold weather test this winter, I'll update my review. If you're looking for an affordable garage-ready chest freezer I doubt you could do any better than this. ... show more

    • I WOULD NEVER BUY A DANBY PRODUCT AGAIN

Product arrived with several dents AND with the lid off center. When I put a dollar bill on the sealing gasket and close the top on the bill, there is absolutely ZERO resistance. Not only this, I can slide the bill back and forth with the lid closed on the dollar. The lid does NOT seal. I called Danby and spoke to a very nice lady who told me I would get a telephone call from Danby within 3 hours. This call never came. I did get a email asking me to send pictures of the damage and the off center top. Not only did I send pictures but I also sent a video showing me sliding the dollar bill up and down, back to front with the lid closed. If I knew how, I would post the video right here. I can live with the dents but not a freezer that Danby put into the market place that was clearly defective when put into a cardboard box that conceals the defect from the ultimate purchaser and Danby's retail seller. A freezer that will not seal is going to frost up and ice up constantly. It will result in higher electric bills and will shorten the life of the freezer. Also Danby advertises the freezer as garage ready but still after years of concerns expressed on Amazon reviews, the paperwork received with the freezer still states the freezer is NOT garage ready. I call upon Danby, right here and now to publicly state that their "garage ready" statements are true. I do want to state that the retail seller, not Danby, was first class, 5 stars all the way. They immediately offered to accept back the freezer but unfortunately, part of the box was accidently thrown out by me so I knew the carrier would not accept it for a return. Danby WON'T call a repairman to inspect the freezer. They insist that I do this. Of course the repairman must be approved by Danby. So I'm required to go to the approved shop and ask them to come to my home and inspect my freezer. Really?? This sounds like something Danby should be doing. This freezer really put a smile on my face. It was delivered in perfect condition. It's quiet and seems well built. Now let's get to real reason why I purchased this freezer. First, I had no desire to buy this on Amazon. Second, I really didn't trust buying a freezer at Amazon. Well.... Forget all of that people!!! The freezer is just as good as the ones sold at Lowe's and Home Depot. Plus, both of them wanted $100 extra to deliver a freezer this size. This freezer is actually larger and better than what they sell. And I managed to get it $150 less with free shipping from Amazon. I saved $250 by not going to Lowe's or Home Depot. I feel great knowing I won and saved money! Trust me, you will too! And it's garage ready!!!!! Love it! ... show more
