  • Flatwounds and Cancer
Size: Regular Light, 10-46
I have been a cancer patient for three years now and some of the drugs result in neuropathy in the fingers making roundwounds tough to play for anything over 10 minutes. I can play the flatwounds for hours! Wonderful therapy it is too. The electrics are "as advertised". They are mellow and warm with a sharper attack and mellower than roundwounds, which is a plus or a negative depending on your style of music. Also the finger squeak is vastly reduced. I stung them on a LP clone and love them. On an acoustic, flatwounds have no great sustain but these produce a sustain that can last for ages. Great for jazz, rockabilly, alt country, country and rock in most of its disguises. I have ordered another set for my Tele and one for the Strat. I should imagine the Tele would have a 50s sound while the Strat will have a surf vibe. ... show more

  • Great strings but not for nickle/silver frets.
Size: Regular Light, 10-46
The fact that these are stainless steel wrapping on a hex core make me nervous because my frets are nickel/silver which is much softer. I had an issue with another guitar of mine with the same type of string only they were not half rounds but regular wound. The issues was fast fret wearing. I went straight back to nickel wound straight away. I would use them on stainless frets no problem but not on a softer fret. There is always a downside to something changed. Like using metallic brake pads and wear on the rotors. ... show more

  • My favorite guitar strings
Size: Super Light, 9-42
These are now my favorite guitar strings. After 30 years of searching for that perfect sound, I think I have found it. I had tried using flatwounds and while comfortable, they cut my tone and volume significantly. The half round strings allow me to make near silent transitions while providing much more volume. They are also much brighter in tone in comparison to the flatwounds. This is a good string for classic rock, new wave, jazz, and country music. I am mostly a rhythm and fingerstyle player and I think they make my 30 year old Peavey Falcon sound like a new instrument. I am installing on my Flying V clone next. ... show more

  • These strings feel good, D'addario are one of the leaders in guitar ...
Size: Regular Light, 10-46
These strings feel good, D'addario are one of the leaders in guitar strings and these hold tune very well and the sound is great, I think, however, my next set will include the heavier bass strings, for stronger bass notes. These are easier to play despite not being ultra lights. You will want to at least try them to find out if you like that, as a kid we called them "ground wounds" because that is what they are. They are less twangy, but offer reasonably rich tone. These are the strings I've come back to from when I was young, and love them. EDIT UPDATE: I just bought my second set of these. I love these strings so much and I cannot understand why more people don't give them a shot. They won't be for everybody, for instance, vibrato is different with them, but the sound and feel are amazing and they stay in tune well. The strings also hold up for a long time with moderate use. I'm using them on my Epiphone Les Paul Standard. I trust D'Addario more than some other brands. Some people insist that all strings come from 1 or 2 factories, but that doesn't seem to be true, as these are different and better than others. Try these ground wounds/half rounds sometime, just give them a shot and see! ... show more

  • Second time buying half rounds and it wasn't a good experience this time
Size: Super Light, 9-42
The first pack I tried were 10's. They were too heavy for me, but I absolutely loved their sound, longevity, and feel. I chose to go with 9's this time. However the package I received wasn't in great shape. (Which is an understatement) The outer pack was smashed and the sealed inner pouch was pretty damaged this time. I didn't think anything of it because the set of 10's lasted so long, and some other brands of strings don't have a "freshness" pouch. I figured stainless was amazing stuff. My mistake. When I installed them I noticed my low E and D were dead to the point they should have been immediately recycled. They sounded worse than the set I removed, which is unfortunate. I'm stuck with these now since I can't afford a new set. I can't return them because I needed strings on my guitar. Once the old ones are cut there's no turning back.. My low review is based solelyon the very damaged pack, and my experience as a whole. I really like these otherwise. They feel great under my fingers, no sneaker squeak, and they have a darker tone that isn't brittle and sharp that I personally like.. The strings that aren't dead sound fine.(This set, sounds terrible with two trash strings) I'll give amazon another shot with strings probably. I got the 10's from Amazon too, and they were amazing. I will definitely not accept a pack of strings from any brand if it arrives in the same condition as this one, in the future. ... show more

  • Great sounding and very quiet.
Size: Regular Light, 10-46
These strings are excellent. They sound real bright, and very quiet. The guages of each string were Johnny on the spot. Meaning, I took a digital caliper to check each strings gauge, and they were exactly the guage listed on the package to the exact digit. This is at least in my experience unusually good. I have checked others, and they would always have a string or two that fluttered between two measurements. These did not. That combined with the great sound means I will be getting more of these. I also put a set of these on my acoustic guitar and they sound magnificent. Even though they were made for an electric guitar, the do just fine on an acoustic made for metal strings. Plus being Half-round they are far less expensive than buying something like these made for an acoustic guitar. Depending on the brand these can be close to being half as expensive. I would definitely recommend these for anyone. ... show more
