  • Awesome science project!
This was a fun science project for us. Purchased these 3 times with about 1 making it each time to at leaast a couple feet tall. Follow the directions and I'd expect the same results. Our goal was to plant outside, unsure if they would live. We live just outside of Indianapolis, Indiana. Winter had several days with a low around -5 degrees Fahrenheit and it's thriving. It grows at a Weeping willows pace, which is rapid in my opinion. It's been growing 2 years and 8 months and in the ground roughly half of that. It is 15' tall in the picture. It has never been trimmed but we used bungee cords/straps to push it upward as you can see in the picture. We wanted something similar to a Weeping Willow but not as massive. It has been referred to as sideshow Bob since applying the bungee cords. Lol ... show more

  • Follow the instructions!!!!
Update:3/7/2022 this was gifted to 2 family members. Both contacted me the plants are now dead with a black fungus growing on them. No change in soil, followed instructions to a T, unhappy and weird it occurred at around the same time with two different households 45 minutes from each other…. Update: including pics of plants now almost 4 weeks later. All 3 stems are blooming!!! The bright light is the grow light I also bought on Amazon, it came recommended after I added the CZ bonsai tree to my shopping cart. I plan on posting pics when I can, but since these were gifted I will have to come back to this review to update. I got instructions on how to grow and followed them to the T. As soon as the stems came in I submerged them in a cup of water 2 inches deep. After watching CZ’s video I then bought a $14 grow light since I was to scared to put it by the window (I’m cheap and don’t like turning my heat on in winter so it gets cold and the plants were suppose to be in a warm environment). Can I just say the plants are blooming faster than what was stated on the video! They gave me extra stems and all of them are budding and have roots growing after 1 1/2 weeks! I am so happy I was actually able to gift a plant with some buds so it didn’t look like a stick in a cup lol ... show more

  • March 2023 update
Got my Green Willows in. I did get the dragon willows as well. So, I read the Directions and placed the cuttings in cups of water. The cuttings that seemed slow with roots I swapped cuttings that are growing fast mixed with those not growing so quickly. Researched online that the willows give off a hormone that causes rooting. So those cuttings that barely had roots I swapped in with those doing very well. Then eventually they all had a lot of roots. I bought 3 gallon and 4 gallon planters pots. I made sure to buy FOX FARMS Ocean Forest soil. My local garden center had the soil. From there I filled pots with soil and before placing the cuttings in. I pruned the roots a little so it was even around. I placed in the soil and gentle covering the roots. Then gave a good watering and placed outside. If the temp got below 30 I would bring them inside. So far all my cuttings are doing well. Update 4/21. Added recent picture. My green willows all growing very well. Had no failures so far and been following the directions per what was given. Update 5/12. Willows still going strong. Been using water down fertilizer to help give nutrients. Uploaded picture of one I plant to keep and bonsai. 3/14/23 3/17/23 Placed in Bonsai training pot. From purchase to now, I was very surprised in how much root growth it had. Same as I said before. Make sure to follow directions. Use good soil(Fox Farms Ocean Floor). DO NOT USE Miracle grow. I plan to gift the other 3 to a friend who wants willows for his pond. Update photo 3/22/23 potted into plastic bonsai pot and soil. Mixed little bit of fox farms soil and slow release fertilizer mixed in. Limbs are wired. To get the willow look for a small tree you will need to train it. Other photo is if you let it grow on its own. They grow fast once roots are established it grows. Will Update when spring hits ... show more

  • Willow cutting
They died after a couple of months when I got them in th dirt 🥺 but they did grow leafs really fast and it was beautiful. There was not a variety there were multiples though. They were a decent size. But I would purchase again. They also arrived fairly fast.

  • Great for beginners. I started with the three, now I've got dozens
I bought these willow shoots four years ago, and they're one of the best things I've bought on Amazon. I'm reviewing this item now because in the years since I received the three shoots, I've not only got the biggest of the original three trees, but also several dozen more trees growing from cuttings. I was able to grow the originals (lost one, unfortunately) but I've also been able to propagate many cuttings as the trees grow. Because I'm trying to promote thick trunk growth, I prune the fastest growing branches pretty regularly. When I prune branches I save the cuttings for new trees. I scrape the bark at the base of the cutting, and dip it into root hormone powder. Then, just like the originals, I let them soak in water until their roots start to grow, which they inevitably do. When the roots have grown healthy enough, I pot the cuttings and keep them fertilized. These are hearty trees. It's spring, and I'm propagating a new batch of cuttings. I would say that if you're interested in growing trees in a bonsai style, and you don't consider yourself a master gardener, this is a very good tree to start with. The attached photos show the "mama" where you can see the cut on the original shoot, but also the "kids" that are thriving from cuttings, as well as the latest "babies" developing their roots in water. ... show more
