Description

Based in Olive Branch, Mississippi, Brussel's Bonsai has cultivated live bonsai trees for over 50 years. Originating in the dry regions of South Africa, The Dwarf Jade, or ‘Elephant bush’, is a succulent plant, which explains its ability to store water for a long time. It is a very undemanding plant, well suited for individuals who travel often or who are prone to forget to water their plants. Thick, round, dark green leaves sit atop fleshy stems & branches, beautifully contrasting against the thick upright trunk. Though jade plants can grow to heights of 10 feet tall in their native habitat, it is an ideal bonsai for a beginner; This beautiful plant is easy to care for and will be a thing of beauty for years to come. The Bonsai tree arrived a day early and was carefully packaged as you can see from the pictures. Only a few leaves had dropped from the tree. I have now had it exactly two weeks and it has retained its leaves and looks beautiful. There wasn't much green moss on it so I bought some and put it on the soil. I plan to buy some small oriental fishermen to set on it with their pole in the water. I live in Florida so there is plenty of sun, but I don't have a space where I can put it where it will receive the direct sun inside. I have it on my kitchen counter and it gets supplemental light from my undercabinet LEDs. So far it seems happy enough with that. The first 3 pictures are the unboxing of the new plant. Number 4 is the tree fully un boxed. Numbers 5 & 6 are pictures of it two weeks later. I am very pleased with my purchase. ... show more

She's a beauty.. I'm VERY new to the bonsai game. Literally, this is my first one. I did a lot of research on bonsai trees to find out which would be best to start off. Jade arrived as expected, wrapped and taped to the high heavens, it took maybe 10 minutes to get her unboxed and the Styrofoam peanuts tickled me immensely!! All the leaves were in tact and bright green, the soil was still moist, but the top layer was shifted, (I'm sure this was done during the shipping process.) I wet the soil until it leaked through the hole at the bottom (READ THE INSTRUCTIONS PEOPLE.) Then I put her on a humidity tray, rocks won't arrive until tomorrow. The instructions say water every 5-7 days, other sites say allow it to dry out some, so i figure water every 10 or so days should be sufficient. I suggest purchasing the tray, fertilizer/food, bonsai soil and river rocks in advance! I also got the little water misting bottle to mix the fertilizer and bonsai tools, though I'm not sure if I'll be using them anytime soon. The little fisherman dude was an extra perk, his fishing pole is actually wood and string! You can put water on the side where little dude is fishing, I went with water colored crystals, changing the water in this pot is going to be a job, so I'm going to repot her at the end of the month. (Google said wait until late spring/early summer.) Ok, so none of the research on actual tree types mattered since I purchased the tree because my daughter's middle name is Jade... (stop judging me!) But she's the perfect addition to my meditation area, I'm going to see how it goes, she may just get a new cousin friend in the very near future. ... show more

    • Thrips Infestation!

My bonsai seemed fine for about a week, and then it started dropping leaves, just like all the others'. Unlike everyone else who's posted here, I found out why. I watered and inspected the tree and found little (.5mm) silver mites running around in the soil-- lots of them. I did a lot of research and then eventually took it to a local nursery where they said and my bonsai came with a nice little infestation of thrips palmi. Thrips are a common glasshouse and factory nursery infestation that attack the roots of young plants. To an adult plant, thrips themselves do minimal damage even in large numbers but can stunt or warp growth by feeding on terminal shoots, the undersides of leaves, causing them to drop. Each of my dropped jade leaves had a small brown spot at the base where thrips had been feeding. The real danger from thrips is that they carry Watermelon silver mottle virus that makes your leaves turn silver and shrivel up. The reason the leaves start dropping is that thrips love the warm dry air of a house or apartment and the parasite population explodes when you house the plant indoors as advertised. Anyway, in summary, they mention they are the biggest US distributor of bonsai, and I believe them, 'cause my bonsai has the parasites to prove it! DO NOT BUY! ... show more

I liked the plant that was sent but noticed that there was a hairline crack in the vase ( the pond). I noticed this as the water level kept lowering within a few hours of filling up. On approaching the seller, I was told that the sale was done through Amazon and they could not replace it after 30 days. I would advise buyers to look very closely if the vase is fractured. Just knocking on the pond area should indicate that there is a crack. Still love the plant, its doing well. ... show more

Package was delivered fast. The bonsai tree was bought as a birthday gift and my cousin loved it!! As I live on her property, when plant was delivered I just gave it to her in the box. The bonsai was very well packaged!! Like VERY WELL packaged. The growers took amazing care with that!!! I loved the bonsai so much I now have 1 in my cart for me to purchase on payday lol The bonsai leaves are very healthy and shiny. The bonsai looks to be extremely healthy. This is her 1st bonsai,but she is very much a plant person as am I. So if your worried as I was about your purchase don't be!!! I'm buying more. I'm that happy with it all! ... show more
