Description

Few plants are as stylish and sophisticated as bonsai. These tiny trees are part of a centuries-old Asian tradition of training trees into beautiful forms that exhibit symmetry and balance. Although traditional Japanese bonsai live outdoors, you can enjoy these little trees indoors—in your office, your kitchen, your bedroom, or bathroom. These tiny trees add just the right touch of dramatic decor to any indoor space. Since they come in various sizes they fit perfectly on desks, tabletops and even shelves. Bonsai prefer a bright spot indoors; place in a room where your bonsai will receive a significant amount of indirect light during the day. Water when the soil is dry (about once a week). If the container does not have holes, use approximately half a cup of water, adjust as needed for your environment. Do not let the Bonsai sit in overly soggy soil. The height is approximately 10 inches tall, measured from the bottom of the pot to the top of the plant. The Bonsai in premium, 3.75-inch ceramic planter topped with moss. Tohelp with water drainage, this container does have a hole. The Bonsai is a slow grower depending on its environment and is hardy in USDA Zones 9 or higher. Give it a boost during the warm months of Spring and Summer with a general-purpose fertilizer that is formulated for house plants. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer package for the best use. When the plant out grows the current container, it is time to repot. To repot the plant, gently remove it from its current container and place it into a slightly larger container. This little Ficus bonsai 'tree' was well packaged....so much so, it took about 5 minutes to pack it. The little tree has new growth. I'm a little concerned about watering and repotting, but that's why there's Google. The little container it came in is very nice; a sort of rough concrete type container. And a unique shape (not just round or square). It even comes with a 'certificate of inspection'. If I don't kill this one in 6 weeks, I'll order another. The positive reviews are reflective of the one we received. The box looked a little worse for wear, but it was packed as if the shipping might be a rough ride. totally dead and crispy when I opened it on the day it was delivered. Would have been a nice plant, well packaged. I do not have time to return a dead plant so they got me. Not ordering from Costa again and I advise others not to as well.

The plant itself is great. Received it healthy and alive. No problem there. However, I would suggest you replace the pot it comes in with a pot with a drainage hole. For some reason Costa Farms sells plants in pots with no drainage hole. This is a bad idea! One of the most common ways of killing a potted plant is over-watering it. And if you do not have a drainage hole in your pot, there is no place for excess water to go. You end up with root rot and a dead plant. Buy the plant, but replace the pot. Or better yet - Costa Farms - start selling your plants in pots with drainage holes! ... show more
