Description

Based in Olive Branch, Mississippi, Brussel's Bonsai has cultivated live bonsai trees for over 50 years. Working with the top bonsai growers across the globe, our experts have meticulously curated an extensive selection of indoor and outdoor live bonsai trees to suit both novice enthusiasts and experienced bonsai owners. The Satsuki Azalea is a popular choice among bonsai, and is grown in the USA. This particular plant is very hardy & produces magnificent flowers. Of all shrubs with flowers, The Azalea is by far the most dramatic with brilliant blooms of radiant color blooming in late spring. While there are many species of Azalea, the Satsuki, or Rhododendron indicum is easily one of the most popular, featuring an excellent low, twiggy habit with lovely funnel shaped unscented pink flowers. The Satsuki is Identified by two blossoms on the end of the terminal; they also have slightly hairy leaves budding out freely from even fairly old wood. Each live plant is shipped with the phytosanitary certificate as required by the USDA.

  • Arrived safely and so far looks to be growing
Size: Small Style: CERAMIC POT
My plant arrived safely. The plant was wrapped nicely so that dirt did not fly everywhere in the box. I've had the plant for a week now and it looks to be growing. A few leaves have already dropped but I think the plant is trying to adjust to it's new surroundings. I have the plant indoors next to my south-facing window. It gets a little bit of light in the morning and then gets the sunshine from the afternoon sun. It is next to my router so hopefully it won't dry out from the air emitting from the router's vent. I placed a plate with rocks and water underneath it to keep the area humid. I've been watering it every day since it is summer and letting the water run out the holes in the bottom. Since it sits on my work desk, I can investigate it each day to make sure it's not dying or drying out. I see it has 2 buds that have not opened. I'll update again in a month to see if the buds actually flower. Update a month or so later: I updated another picture of the bonsai, a side by side view of when I first got it to now. I have to preface that I am watering the plant almost every day or every other day if I see the humidity plate is low on water. It is summer so the house does get warm and my plant is next to the router on my work desk. Also, I have been collecting the fallen leaves to show the amount of leaves I'm losing. Despite the amount of leaves im losing, I do see that the leaves are growing bigger on my plant. So I think the fallen leaves are just from my plant adjusting to the environment. This is a tree and trees do drop leaves occasionally. My tree does look sparser than the original so I'm not sure if I'm trending in the right direction. But still it does not look bad. Ill leave my rating at 5 stars for now. My plant still looks healthy. Also the buds I had originally have not bloomed. Hoping it's just going through a blooming cycle and won't just die off. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY
Size: Small Style: CERAMIC POT
Extremely disappointed. For the more expensive side of these popular plants. I ordered the small, just didn't realize how small it was actually going to be. It arrived packaged nicely and there was no complaints there besides the leaves were already a little brown. After 2 weeks of me babying the plant and taking care of it just like all of my other bonsai plants, I paid attention to this one a little bit more. After 2 1/2 Weeks all of the leaves we're Brown and completely dead. Unfortunately, there is no coming back from this. I've had it for a month now and I've tried everything. If there is a way I can get my money back or get a new plant or even save this one I'm willing to do so. But I have tried everything I can do on my end and I'm extremely disappointed. Buy from another company!!!!!! ... show more

  • Well packaged healthy tree!!
Size: Medium Style: CERAMIC WITH TRAY
Very happy with this little tree! It is even better than the pictures and was packaged extremely well (took at least 30 minutes to unpack it)! I put it out on my balcony (which faces east) and will allow it to acclimate to it's new environment while making sure it stays moist (azaleas like moist) for quite a while. The tree has a lot of potential as it is very healthy, has a lot of branches and a very nice flare to the trunk base which promises an awesome nebari. I am itching to work on it but allowing it to acclimate is most important right now - in the meantime I need to content myself with studying it and making future plans. One day this tree will impress everybody! ... show more

  • Love my new bonsai - thank you!
Size: Small Style: CERAMIC POT
The only reason I am writing a review is to counter the 1 - 3 star reviews I've read about. I am a beginner bonsai growing person. I purchased some bonsai's from various stores; never online. I wanted an azalea bonsai and thus checked on amazon. Before purchasing, I (of course) read reviews. I was a little anxious about taking a chance because some of the reviews noted the bonsai arriving in terrible condition (mess in the box type of write up). Imagine my excitement when my new bonsai arrived in great condition (as one would expect). Maybe the person who wrapped mine took extra care, maybe some reviews were the exception not the norm. Whatever the reason, thank you Brussel's. I love the bonsai and hope it grows into a beautiful flower sprouting addition. ... show more

  • Hmmm
Size: Small Style: CERAMIC POT
Pretty, lovely. But the plant was too big for the tiny dish they gave me. The root bulb is much higher than the lip of the pot. There’s almost no soil in it and it’s so tightly compacted that I have to soak it in order to get water in there; when I water from the top, it all slides down the sides and just washes off the gravel they put in. It’s really pretty, but I think I need a bigger pot and just work with it. I’m an amateur at bonsai, but this was really poorly set in a pot way too small. Be sure to water it every single day or it starts getting very unhappy and losing leaves. But it’s super lovely. ... show more

  • Stellar support!
Size: Medium Style: CERAMIC WITH TRAY
Update: replacement came, everything great. Easy to get my problem fixed. >>My bonsai arrived a day early. I was watching closely, since it's January and I'm in Colorado. The tree looked great when it arrived, well watered and healthy-looking. The pot. however, was split in transit. As soon as I got shipping info to their customer service, I was told a replacement would be sent that. day (yesterday). I had told them I was okay with just replacing the pot, since I've been raising Bonsai for many years. It sounded like I may get a new tree, which would be ideal, as trees, even little ones, are slow to show damage and the tree would normally not be due for repotting for several years. I. noted that several reviews are pretty negative, but growing bonsai is more difficult than just indoor gardening; especially sensitive to too much or too little water. If this is a first bonsai, books and/or You-tubes are essential for success. Brussels is a great source for one. ... show more
