I wrote this review earlier than I normally do to avoid a specific problem I experienced. I also sent this message to Costa Farms today, so they got the feedback directly. The first photo was on arrival, and the second photo was after 7 days from the overwatering incident on the arrival day. In the box, a general Palm care guide sheet was provided, and so I followed the instructions and gave the ponytail palm a good watering right after I set it up. A few days after that, many of the lower leaves started to yellow/brown, and the plant clearly was overwatered. After I looked it up online, it turns out that the Ponytail Palm is a succulent (not a palm) that is very sensitive to overwatering, as it doesn't need much water at all (especially now during the very beginning of spring). Costa Farms should provide plant-specific instructions in the box, and not any inaccurate instructions like the palm one provided. I ceased watering immediately after that, will let it dry out, and will water it according to accurate internet sources (like The Spruce website). As of now it's damaged, but not dead, and I'm hoping for the best as I care for it properly. It was a beautiful plant when it arrived, but I do think this issue should not have happened from the plant nursery's instructions. I will update this review if any issues occur, and if the plant bounces back from this one-time overwatering issue. I hope Coco makes it! ... show more

I ordered a ponytail fern. It came in a very strong box labeled this side up inside it was carefully wrapped. I received the most beautiful fern. I’m so excited. It is perfection every way. I couldn’t be more pleased. I will definitely order again soon. Thank you so much!

    • This Plant Respects My Commitment Issues!

Our family has the horticultural equivalent of the black plague when it comes to house plants. We’ve killed cactuses and we've drowned succulents. It's gotten so bad, our last houseplant died of loneliness. When this Ponytail Palm arrived, it was in amazing condition right out of the box (and packaged VERY well) but we gave it a two-week lifespan because of our past history. Boy, was I wrong... So far, this has been the single best, lowest-maintenance houseplant we've ever had. It is essentially a reverse camel, storing all the water it needs in the ridiculously bulbous, glorious trunk. This means we water him less often than Chuck Norris loses a fight (which is never). We love how it sits on display looking permanently surprised with its spiky green hair giving it the overall vibe of a sophisticated Muppet crossed with Dr. Seuss DNA. If you suffer from chronic plant neglect but still crave a splash of vibrant, non-judgmental greenery, stop reading this review and buy this ponytail palm immediately. I was initially very excited about this plant, and within a couple weeks of owning it i realized it was dying quickly and spent a few more weeks adjusting the watering. The number of fungal gnats were insane and they love the plant as the we’re not flying around my house…..i did buy a product to take care of the gnats (sticky trap) and the larve (mosquito bits). I’m hoping this helps revive the plant so I can keep it long term. ... show more
