Frequently asked questions

The CyberPower SL700U Standby UPS System is designed to protect connected devices against surges, spikes, sags, and other power abnormalities. It provides battery backup power that allows you to safely shut down equipment during a power outage.

The runtime varies based on the load connected to the UPS. With a full load of 370W, it provides a few minutes of power, enough to safely shut down your equipment. For lesser loads, the runtime increases, allowing more time to save work and properly shut down electronics.

The CyberPower SL700U UPS System has a slim profile design, allowing it to be placed in a variety of orientations, including horizontally or vertically for desktop use. However, it is not designed with mounting capabilities and is generally used in a freestanding setup.

It’s ideal for personal electronics, networking devices, small office equipment, and audio/video equipment. Avoid connecting high-power devices like large office printers, as they can quickly overload the system.

  • Reliable. Affordable. Quality. Peace of mind.
Style: Slim Size: 700VA
Perfect for my custom-built SFF PC setup. This 700VA slim version sits on my desk, so no more tangled cords near the floor, and is nearly completely hidden by my small case. Still haven't used all the outlets. Price is excellent. This brand was recommended by the shop that built my PC, they use several versions of it. Just an hour after it was all connected we had a power flicker and I just heard a soft click but there was no interruption. Highly recommend!! ... show more

  • works fine...software very hard to locate
Style: Slim Size: 700VA
i've used only APC brand for years and they gave me lots of headaches over that time....so i thought i'd try this brand....i think it works a little better, has a nicer user interface, and hopefully will go longer than 3 years....plus its about 10% less money...........the one place i really had a lot of trouble was tracking down the downloadable free software that goes with it...the official website was nothing but blind alleys which is totally unacceptable...in the end i had to ask Claude to find it for me ... show more

  • Fits perfectly into a media enclosure!
Style: Slim Size: 700VA
Our power flickers frequently, which prompted this purchase. UPS fits nicely into my 42" tall recessed media enclosure and powers my router, network (PoE) switch, and other Smart Home components. Some short "pigtails" (8" extension cords) may be needed (I needed three) to accommodate the large transformer-plugs that some components use. **UPDATE 8/4/2023** Three-plus years in, and this thing is still performing like a champ! The website states that the battery is NOT user-replaceable. Well, I've never seen an UPS (I own several, and work with several more, and have replaced ALL of them at one point or another) that DIDN'T have a user-replaceable battery, and THIS ONE is no exception. Just replaced this battery with a 12V, 6.5ah battery, and am back up and running. Took about 30 seconds to replace! NOTE: CyberPower does not offer a replacement for this unit, so you'll have to do some honey-badgering. I paid $26 for the replacement. Still love this thing! ... show more

  • CyberPower SL700U: The Little UPS That Catches Power Blips So Your Network Doesn’t Blink
Style: Slim Size: 700VA
The CyberPower SL700U is the kind of UPS you keep around not because it’s a powerhouse, but because it’s a polite, dependable little buffer that smooths out life’s electrical hiccups. It’s slim, unobtrusive, and perfect for the gear that really just needs clean, uninterrupted power long enough to avoid a reboot—modems, routers, ONTs, or those tiny-but-critical devices that absolutely should not experience a brownout. As a surge protector plus brief-runtime UPS, it does its job without fanfare or fuss, and that’s exactly what you want in a unit this size. In day-to-day use, the SL700U behaves like a compact shock absorber. Voltage drops? It catches them. Blips and flickers? It shrugs and gives you the extra seconds you need. Full outages? Well… it’ll keep your small gear running for 10–15 minutes, maybe a bit more if the load is tiny—but this is a UPS you choose for coverage, not marathon endurance. It’s not something you’d use for a full networking rack or anything mission-critical. But for protecting your modem during ISP maintenance, or keeping your router alive while your bigger UPS is rebooting, updating, or being swapped? It’s perfect. Its real value shows up when paired with larger systems. If you’ve got a bigger UPS or portable power station as your primary backbone, this little CyberPower becomes the perfect “inline buffer”—absorbing those moments where the big device switches modes, resets a circuit, or needs a firmware update. Instead of a hard network drop, everything downstream keeps humming along as if nothing happened. For anyone who works with layered power systems or wants belt-and-suspenders protection for the gear that holds everything together, the SL700U fits that niche beautifully. It’s not designed to be an all-purpose safety net, but within its intended role it’s wonderfully reliable. Treat it as the “hiccup protector” for sensitive electronics, especially in modest or home office setups, and it will earn its spot. Just don’t ask it to run a switch stack or an office during a blackout—this is the helpful sidekick, not the hero. Pros • Slim, compact, and easy to place behind desks or network shelves • Ideal for modems, routers, ONTs, and other low-draw devices • Smoothly handles flickers and short drops without reboots • Perfect as a buffer behind larger UPS or power systems • UL certified and generally very reliable for its class Cons • Very limited runtime—10–15 minutes max under typical loads • Not suitable for full racks or high-draw equipment • Standby design means it’s not as smooth as line-interactive models • Battery longevity is decent, but not exceptional ... show more

  • One unit failed but ...
Style: Slim Size: 700VA
Follow up to an earlier review around a year ago: I have two of these. One unit failed at a year and a half - the battery was fine but the control unit failed. Disappointing, definitely but out of warranty they replaced it so I renew my statement of excellent customer service. Though I do think a product like this that, like a flashlight sits for long periods of time before being needed should have a warranty longer than a year. The other unit at about a year continues to perform without issue. Original review ... Some reviewers "hate" the beep while they apparently just live with it. Here's what to do (sometimes reading instructions can really help): double click the power button with the unit already on AND plugged in, wait for a double beep and the beep is silenced. Reverse to turn it back on. If this is backing up security equipment naturally you don't want to alert intruders to this box. My experience: the thing works, the slim case offers more location options and the tech support is excellent. ... show more

  • Works as Described and checks many other boxes
Style: Slim Size: 700VA
Note that I am only a week into the new install, so can not vouch for longevity as of yet. I purchased this item for my home office. The set up includes Router, WIFI, PC, and Wyze Security System Base power on the power + surge protected portion of the unit, and then have just one other item on Surge only portion. Highly recommend using the free CyberPower software to manage and observe the details of this back-up- its very good. Currently I am pulling only 75 watts total with an estimated back up time of 35 mins. when power goes down. I believe for the price and size it is well worth it, with the smaller footprint fitting neatly under my printer cart. Back in the old days a 700VA would require 4 to 5X the space as this unit to offer the same back up time- with not nearly as many features. Item of note here would be that I saw a lot of people ask how to turn the alarm beep off in a power outage, and didn't realize until they are suddenly in the dark having to try and figure it out. I looked it up, just 2 quick presses of the green power button will disable the alarm if/when that time comes. All in all I believe this item to be a quality, feature rich product for a SOHO environment. I read that there was some dismay regarding the Mfg warranty if the battery goes bad or in need of repair, so I spent the extra $ 8 for no questions asked warranty coverage. For essentially 10% of the total value its worth it for me to have worry-free service if ever needed for 36 months. Enjoy! ... show more

  • Perfect for behind the TV
Style: Slim Size: 700VA
I bought this to protect my game consoles and TV during power outages. In Michigan when we get bad storms, the power doesn't just politely go out: it flickers on and off with surges 10 or 12 times first, frying your electronics! After my XBox One was destroyed by that I stopped being cheap and got this for behind the TV. At 370w I don't think it'll run my TV and Series X on an actual load for very long, but it's enough to get things safely shut down and unplugged if you don't have a standby generator. This is also perfect if you do have a standby generator, providing stable power while the mains dies violently and then giving clean power while the generator is running. (If it's old like mine that comes with constant brownouts!) If you live in an area where you lose power in the winter or during spring storms get this, it's slim enough to hide behind your TV pretty easily and will protect your much more expensive TV and game consoles. I've only lost power once since buying this but it did its job, can't comment on battery longevity yet but if it lasts 3-5 years I'll be happy. I have another CyberPower UPS I bought in early 2021 still going strong so I'm happy with the brand so far. ... show more

  • Garbage. Failure every time.
Style: Slim Size: 700VA
I would rate this and Amazon's customer support negative Stars if I could. A little over a month ago I purchased this because of the frequent power outages / brownouts occurring because of the summer heat. I fully charged it for over 8 hours, it is plugged into a three-prong outlet, and yet every time the power goes off it fails to kick on. That defeats the entire point of having auxiliary power to ensure you can safely shut down your electrical equipment connected to it. When I reached out to Amazon for help, they assured me that I would be taken care of, and all they did was redirect me to the cyberpower support page. So the power is currently off, the auxiliary backup unit is non-functional, apparently this is a known issue that even Amazon's Alexa was saying when I contacted it. So do yourself a favor, do not buy this. ... show more
