Description

If you own multiple trailers or frequently tow a variety of loads, you know how much time and money are spent tailoring your towing system to each and every individual trailer. There is nothing more inconvenient than switching back and forth between a few different ball mounts and trying to remember which mount fits with which trailer. A CURT adjustable ball mount is your multipurpose towing solution. This CURT adjustable channel-style ball mount has a shank size of 2" x 2" and features two different trailer ball sizes to accommodate two different coupler sizes: 2" and 2-5/16". It also features an adjustable shank assembly with multiple mounting holes for varying ball heights. Each trailer ball can be raised to a maximum of 5-1/4" rise or lowered to a maximum of 6" drop, allowing you to make your trailer completely level in any towing situation. The channel-style design and dual-pin mounting system also provide a built-in anti-rattle feature to eliminate obnoxious chucking noises. This CURT adjustable ball mount offers a gross trailer weight capacity of up to 10,000 lbs. for the 2" ball and 14,000 lbs. for the 2-5/16" ball. It allows you to tow a variety of heavyweight trailers, and it features two pin holes in the shank to be mounted at an 11" or 12" length. The adjustable channel-style shank can also be used with the channel-style combination pintle mount or ball mount platform attachment to give you the option of installing your own trailer ball size. All CURT channel-style adjustable ball mounts are made with sturdy steel construction and come with our black carbide powder coat finish for long-lasting rust, scratch and UV resistance. This product is protected under U.S. Patent Numbers: 11,628,698 and 11,660,916.

  • Great product, most versatile and very reasonable price
Style: Single
I purchased this unit to use on my lifted 2004 Dodge 3500 4x4. I needed to have the flexibility to tow any trailer I would come across with this truck and since it was lifted I knew I needed a significant drop to ensure the trailer was level while towing. I chose this unit because of the price, the quality and the features. The quality of the unit is great. Everything fits the way it should. All holes lined up how they are supposed to both with the hitch on my truck and with the adjustment for the ball on this mount. The welds look to be quality and there are not rough or sharp edges on the unit. I see no areas where there appears to be any damage or low quality workmanship in the manufacturing. The features of this unit were probably the primary reason I went with this on. Often you see the cheesy lifted trucks rolling down the road with these giant drop hitches and I think they look ridiculous and seem like the may or may not be safe. This hitch has just enough drop to be versatile for any trailer and it allows the user to make it a rise hitch as well. If you vehicle is low to the ground you can flip it over and use it to tow a taller trailer with the lower vehicle. The pins that come with it make it pretty easy to adjust. FYI if you put the pins in opposite each other so the retaining clip is on opposite sides it is much easier to install and take out the retaining clips. This was the only feature that wasn't great on the unit. This is also the heaviest rated adjusted ball hitch I could find. With a 14,000# weight rating for the 2 5/16" ball there's no way you'll find a trailer out there that you can't tow. Id guess that is probably the overall limit you'd want anyway with a bumper pull. Anymore than that and you should be running 5th wheel or gooseneck. So this unit should be the last and only one you'd need to carry. The price is the same or lower than any other one I could find. Very reasonable and it really shouldn't wear out so its an easy one time purchase knowing that you'll have it for many years to come. ... show more

  • Heavy Duty, Quality, Great Value, High Tow Limits
Style: Single
This is a very heavy duty hitch. I purchased it for a number of reasons, (1) I thought since it was Curt it was USA made but found out it is made in India. Disappointed that Curt's website is not more open about it but the quality seems to be very good (2) I needed 6" of drop and this hitch does that and is easy to adjust. (3) Most adjustable 2" receiver hitches are rated for 7,500GTW for the 2" ball. This hitch is rated for 10,000 lbs for the 2" ball which exceeds my truck"s rating. I did not want the hitch to be the weak link when I am towing. I'm very happy with this hitch and feel that it is a good value for the price. (4) Quality appears to be high. The coating seems tough and the tolerances for fit between the hitch ball (all forged not welded!) and the channel are very good as in close but not tight. ... show more

  • Expectations exceeded
Style: Single
Just put 500+ miles on it towing my boat. A couple of criticisms. 1. The tolerance accumulation of the cross pins for the ball mount to the channel holes provide gaps that will result in rattles. I solved this by wrapping .020 thick Inconel sheet stock around the 2 cross pins and installing this into the channel. Solved the loose fit easily. Kurt should review the tolerance stack of these items to reduce the gap but still providing a "go" fit. 2. The cross pins supplied are non-locking as they have a simple hitch-pin (hairpin cotter pin). To lock the forged ball mount to the channel you need to purchase a wide locking cross pin. So understand that this adds to the total cost. All in all, I am still impressed with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone in need of an adjustable heavy duty mount. I am an aerospace engineer by profession, and I rarely gush over a purchased product. However, this mount exceeds all of my expectations. Those claiming it does not have a setscrew or poor cast metal quality - I suggest they spend some time reading the Curt Catalog. First, model # 45900 does not have a setscrew - it uses a rubber bumper/snubber - by design. Only select part numbers use the setscrew. Secondly, the 45912 double ball is not a casting - it is a forged product and I will take a forging against a casting of similar design any day due to superior grain refinement and metallurgical properties. Regarding"made in India" - the only indication of this is on the package itself. I have asked Curt Tech Support if this is correct. Regardless, the main ball mount is well-designed, with double-gussets spanning the long side. Full wrap around welds (semi-automatic MIG welds I believe) look good to my eyes, and I look at welds every day on products that fly on commercial aircraft. A single gusset on the short leg is also well executed. All-in-all, a well-designed, well fabricated adjustable ball mount and I look forward to its first use. I would be stunned if my opinions change after this. My only wish it that they would offer a similar part in stainless steel, especially the 45912 double ball. Corrosion generally occurs as this is the interface to the trailer coupler and the ball carries the towed load and wears thru most every coating available. As another thought, I may have a similar part machined from 6Al-4V titanium plate. That will solve any future corrosion problems and the part will be substantially lighter, albeit a bit expensive. ... show more
