Description

If you own multiple trailers or frequently tow a variety of loads, you know how much time and money are spent tailoring your towing system to each and every individual trailer. There is nothing more inconvenient than switching back and forth between a few different ball mounts and trying to remember which mount fits with which trailer. A CURT adjustable ball mount is your multipurpose towing solution. This CURT adjustable channel-style ball mount has a shank size of 2" x 2" and features two different trailer ball sizes to accommodate two different coupler sizes: 2" and 2-5/16". It also features an adjustable shank assembly with multiple mounting holes for varying ball heights. Each trailer ball can be raised to a maximum of 5-1/4" rise or lowered to a maximum of 6" drop, allowing you to make your trailer completely level in any towing situation. The channel-style design and dual-pin mounting system also provide a built-in anti-rattle feature to eliminate obnoxious chucking noises. This CURT adjustable ball mount offers a gross trailer weight capacity of up to 10,000 lbs. for the 2" ball and 14,000 lbs. for the 2-5/16" ball. It allows you to tow a variety of heavyweight trailers, and it features two pin holes in the shank to be mounted at an 11" or 12" length. The adjustable channel-style shank can also be used with the channel-style combination pintle mount or ball mount platform attachment to give you the option of installing your own trailer ball size. All CURT channel-style adjustable ball mounts are made with sturdy steel construction and come with our black carbide powder coat finish for long-lasting rust, scratch and UV resistance. I purchased this unit to use on my lifted 2004 Dodge 3500 4x4. I needed to have the flexibility to tow any trailer I would come across with this truck and since it was lifted I knew I needed a significant drop to ensure the trailer was level while towing. I chose this unit because of the price, the quality and the features. The quality of the unit is great. Everything fits the way it should. All holes lined up how they are supposed to both with the hitch on my truck and with the adjustment for the ball on this mount. The welds look to be quality and there are not rough or sharp edges on the unit. I see no areas where there appears to be any damage or low quality workmanship in the manufacturing. The features of this unit were probably the primary reason I went with this on. Often you see the cheesy lifted trucks rolling down the road with these giant drop hitches and I think they look ridiculous and seem like the may or may not be safe. This hitch has just enough drop to be versatile for any trailer and it allows the user to make it a rise hitch as well. If you vehicle is low to the ground you can flip it over and use it to tow a taller trailer with the lower vehicle. The pins that come with it make it pretty easy to adjust. FYI if you put the pins in opposite each other so the retaining clip is on opposite sides it is much easier to install and take out the retaining clips. This was the only feature that wasn't great on the unit. This is also the heaviest rated adjusted ball hitch I could find. With a 14,000# weight rating for the 2 5/16" ball there's no way you'll find a trailer out there that you can't tow. Id guess that is probably the overall limit you'd want anyway with a bumper pull. Anymore than that and you should be running 5th wheel or gooseneck. So this unit should be the last and only one you'd need to carry. The price is the same or lower than any other one I could find. Very reasonable and it really shouldn't wear out so its an easy one time purchase knowing that you'll have it for many years to come. ... show more

After researching multiple brands and types of hitches similar to this one, I decided on the CURT hitch for the price and features needed for my towing. Curt does offer this channel type mount in 2" and 2-1/2" shank, and multiple drop measurements. This hitch has a solid shank with a dual pin mount. This helps extend the hitch outward so that when using the tailgate (at least in our case), the trailer jack and handle won't interfere with the tailgate of a truck opening. Great for when you have other items in the truck bed and you don't have to unhook the trailer, or hold the tailgate from hitting the jack while you retrieve items out of the truck bed. The ball hitch is a great dual purpose one piece design, no extra components to adjust or fool with, 2" and 2-5/16" for most common trailers, Curt also offers this channel style hitch with a single ball mount, or a pintle hook type. The 6" drop is as much drop as I needed for an F350 and an enclosed trailer, not to mention for smaller trailers you won't need multiple hitches for different height trailer. The dual ball design alleviates having to change out hitches especially if a job site has multiple trailers with 2" hitch and 2-5/16", this hitch makes an easy transition from moving a travel trailer, then to moving a car hauler around, to hooking up to a dump trailer with a pintle hook, with the ease of a flip of the ball mount, or a quick two pin change out. Curt sells the pintle hook separate, as well as replacement dual ball mounts in the unfortunate event that one piece gets "lost" or misplaced some how. I would recommend at least 1 locking pin for the ball mount if you intend to leave the ball mount on the hitch, but with the 2 pin removal, it's very easy to pop the pins out and store the ball hitch in the cab, or a tool box, out of the way. Photos show the wear after being used for pulling 20ft enclosed trailer for the past few months. About a 2h round trip 2x a weekend. So far so good! ... show more

This is a very heavy duty hitch. I purchased it for a number of reasons, (1) I thought since it was Curt it was USA made but found out it is made in India. Disappointed that Curt's website is not more open about it but the quality seems to be very good (2) I needed 6" of drop and this hitch does that and is easy to adjust. (3) Most adjustable 2" receiver hitches are rated for 7,500GTW for the 2" ball. This hitch is rated for 10,000 lbs for the 2" ball which exceeds my truck"s rating. I did not want the hitch to be the weak link when I am towing. I'm very happy with this hitch and feel that it is a good value for the price. (4) Quality appears to be high. The coating seems tough and the tolerances for fit between the hitch ball (all forged not welded!) and the channel are very good as in close but not tight. ... show more

Hitch was exactly what i needed and nothing i did not. It's heavier than it looks without being overly heavy (like an anti-sway hitch). Solid steel not boxed or square tube. Adjustment holes for depth into receiver could have been spaced further apart, but that's it. (At least there is some adjustment!) I was able to use the Curt swivel trailer quick hitch pins with this, just barely, but they did fit. Of course it came with new pins but i didn't want to use the clip type if i could avoid it. 14k weight rating, this thing is solid. No it's not got the flash a hitch twice it's price at half the weight rating that folds up out of the way, but i can flip that ball out in like 60 seconds with those quick hitch pins and be moving on to the next trailer without issue. If your looking for something heavy duty with dual balls that just works with decent adjustability, this one is simple and effective. ... show more

This is a very solidly built hitch. The shank is solid steel. It has an optional hitch pin location so the ball will be either 10” or 12” from the receiver pin, I like the extra length to help avoid damaging the bed from jack knife. There is about a 6” drop to the bottom of the mounting bracket and if you need to use the lowest position the un used ball is going to hang down another 3 inches. If you need that much drop it probably wont be an issue but something to keep in mind. Mine seems to be a revised design, it does not have an anti rattle bolt as it has a rubber piece to absorb the rattle. Not sure how long rubber will hold up. I would definitely buy this again. - Fits 2” receiver - Either 10” or 12” extension from receiver hitch - The shank is solid metal - not hollow. - The 2" ball can handle up to 10k lbs - The 2 5/16" ball can handle 14k lbs - Tongue weight 1500 lbs Used it to tow a 5,000 pound travel trailer and it is very quiet with not much movement. Pulling truck is a 2016 2500HD. This is the first hitch I am buying locks for, it looks good and I suspect someone will try to steal it. ... show more

    • Solid Piece but Check The Threads

I just received this and thought I would post up a quick note. I ordered both the Curt hitch and the Curt locking pin set. Everything was fine until I went to screw in the anti-rattle screw. I noticed as I was threading it into the hitch it started to bung up the threads. I inspected the threads at all three points on the hitch and they looked fine. The screw was definitely causing problems from what appeared to be the colored coating that was applied. Mine was painted or dipped to the same color as the hitch. Nice touch, but if I were to have forced this through it would have stripped out. The coating was so heavy it was stacking up in the ridges of the threads. So, out with the tap and die set... I ran that screw through a 1/2" x 13TPI die several times and all is well. My recommendation is to do that as soon as you receive this hitch. I'm rating as four stars at this point for that alone. Everything else looks stout and up to the task. BTW, yes, this is a heavy solid piece. I got on the bathroom scale with it and it came in right at 31 lbs with the everything assembled; receiver, ball, pins, & anti-rattle screw. BTW, for the locking pin set, although you receive two locking pins you're basically paying for an extended locking pin for the hitch ball. Kind of pricey for that alone but as others have said it's worth if you're worried about theft. Curt doesn't sell just the replacement ball. ... show more

I bought a Curt hitch for my duramax earlier this year and you couldn't beat the price quality or fit and finish. Same was the case with this ball mount. It seems Curt makes some heavy duty stuff for the money. Mine didn't come with the adjustment screw for rattle like some mentioned in their reviews. Instead it came with a rubber button pushed into the threaded holes so you could still go to the hardware store and buy a 1/2-13 bolt if the rubber ever failed but the rubber seems heavy duty. Also the rubber is easier to move from on bolt hole to the other without any tools and doesn't need to be adjusted depending on what holes you have the ball in. Only thing is that this thing screams steal me so the lock set offered may be a good investment if you aren't going to take it out when not in use. In my case my truck is pulling a trailer more often then not so I'm not going to worry about it. One side note I'd like to make is that Curt rates the tongue weight on their products which is handy and alot of extra piece of mind. I wasn't able to find a similar product with a rating for tongue weight which could be a problem considering I like to run a good bit of tongue weight on my dually. ... show more
