  • Great buy
Model: US-600A Style: Under- Sink Drinking Water Filtration Sy...
I have been complaining about the high chlorine content in our city water for some time. I think I have a lower tolerance for the smell and taste than my wife - she was not convinced we needed a filter. I decided on this due to the other good reviews and the price - cheaper than the whole house system I desired, but should eliminate the bad taste for drinking water and cooking at the kitchen faucet. Installation: Installation was a cinch - took about 25 minutes, but would have been less if I'd have been able to find a good light for under the sink. The only tools I used were my power drill, a pipe cutter for the line going to my faucet, and a razor for cutting the tubing that came with the kit. I had my doubts about the plastic push-to-connect fittings that came with it, but they fit snug and didn't leak a drop. Water quality: I let it run the recommended 15 minutes to clean potential carbon dust out of the filter, then did a test. I poured a glass of water from a non-filtered faucet, and one from the kitchen where I installed this. I saw the familiar small floaties, smelled the chlorine smell, and tasted the harsh chemical chlorine taste in the non-filtered water. The filtered water came out pretty aerated so I had to let it sit a minute before I could get a good look. The water had none of the floaties, no noticeable smell, and the harsh chemical taste was gone. I was impressed. The great part is that when I handed both glasses to my wife, she was able to identify the filtered water - pretty good for somebody who didn't even notice the high chlorine content we had to begin with. Overall I am impressed with the quality of components, ease of installation, and quality of water I get for the little amount of money I spent. ... show more

  • Economical and versatile
Model: US-600A Style: Under- Sink Drinking Water Filtration Sy...
I needed a replacement for a leaking filter head in my sailboat’s galley, this one was inexpensive and the quick connect lines pushed right in. But what’s amazing is the number of cartridge options (see the attached comparison.) It comes with a D-20A, which works fine, the water tastes great. But check out D-40A, wow! If you’re picky about water quality (on a boat, going to different ports in different countries) that’ll give you peace of mind! ... show more

  • Excellent filter system for under the kitchen sink.
Model: US-600A Style: Under- Sink Drinking Water Filtration Sy...
I have had this system for 1.5 years now and love it. I like that Culligan makes several filter choices to fit this unit. The basic filters work well in this unit without hindering the flow of water and providing better tasting water. My biggest concern when choosing a filter setup was losing water flow. This unit allows for larger water lines than the typical 1/4" found on many other setups. Higher quality filter options from Culligan will slow the flow rate, but have noticeably higher water quality. Installation was fairly straight-forward. Finding a place to mount the unit is easy under a sink, even with a large garbage disposal. I found that the plastic water lines, that come with a unit like this, are too weak. I went to my local hardware store and purchased a couple feet of flexible lead free copper pipe to use instead. A plumber out to my house to install a dishwasher commented that the installation was every nice and wondered what company had sold and installed it. If you're patient with the install and don't mind a stop at a hardware store, you can get professional results for a fraction of the cost with this unit. I have been so happy with this unit that I will be purchasing another for my next home and also look to Culligan for whole-house filter systems as well. Having a large name brand on a product like this is a big deal to me. I wouldn't want to use a low budget knock-off brand to have it leak later when I'm not home. ... show more

  • Works well but wish it had threaded fittings
Model: US-600A Style: Under- Sink Drinking Water Filtration Sy...
I liked the idea of saving money spent on pitcher water filters. I bought this filter along with the Amazon recommended Watts faucet since customers complained about the other Culligan complete kit using a plastic faucet which breaks easily. This kit comes with a D20 filter, couple feet of 3/8" hose, two 3/8" 90 elbow quick-connects, and screws to mount to inside of cabinet. If you plan on using this to filter all cold water from your faucet I recommend going to the hardware store to buy some brass compression fittings to adapt over to the 3/8" plastic tubing and then back again after the filter. It seems too many people are trying to get the quick-connect fittings to grip their copper pipe or tubing. In all honesty, I would not expect the quick-connect teeth to hold onto copper with high water pressure. The tiny teeth are meant to grip plastic tubing and once connected it's nearly impossible to remove without damaging it. Likewise, if you're going to add a seperate drinking faucet you'll want to go to the hardware store to buy a brass tee which fits your current piping. Make sure the side takeoff of the tee is 3/8" compression which you'll use to run to the filter and then up to the drinking faucet. Connect your old faucet to the top of the tee. This is easy if you have a newer faucet with threaded compression nuts. Look for something called Adapt-a-tee which is a tee with a compression nut on one end and male compression threads on the other two ports. Personally, I would prefer threaded fittings on this filter. I really don't see how it's worth trusting customers with the quick-connects when real compression fittings are easy to use and you can simply tighten them to stop leaks. I have no idea how long the gaskets last in the quick-connects and once put together they can't easily be taken apart. Most people don't even realize just how far they have to push for a complete seal. Since I have a completely seperate line for my ice maker coming from the basement I bought a second filter for behind the fridge. I refuse to pay $30+ for a refrigerator filter that only lasts 6 months when these cheap babies last 12 months! To make things easier I installed the under-sink filter first, flushed the include D-20 filter element to get all the loose carbon out of it, and then re-installed the flushed D-20 cartridge into the fridge filter. It would be nearly impossible to get all the loose carbon out using the fridge water/ice system. Afterward, I installed a new D-30 element into the under-sink filter and flushed that. Both D-20 and D-30 cartridges made our water taste better but I wanted the extra filtering for the faucet and will use the cheaper D-20 for making ice. The D-30 did slow down the water pressure a little bit compared to the D-20 but with our water pressure it's just right. ... show more
