From the Manufacturer The PF-2 is for use with Black Berkey Purifiers - If you use ceramic filters, you will need the PF-4 PF-2 reduction elements are designed for use in conjunction with Black Berkey water purification elements to adsorb the following unwanted elements found in drinking water. Fluoride, Arsenic V and pre oxidized Arsenic III, Other residual heavy metal ions. FLUORIDE: Testing for fluoride was based on 20-30ppm of the ion in the influent aqueous solution at a flow rate of no more than 3 gpm per cubic foot of media. Results of <1ppm of the fluoride ion in the effluent were typical for the media (>95% reduction). Under optimum conditions, effluent concentrations of less than 50 ppb were readily achieved (>99.75% reduction). ARSENIC: This product uniquely targets the entire family of arsenic oxide anions as well as the arsenic cations. REPLACEMENT: Under normal conditions it is recommended that each set of two PF-2 elements be replaced after 1,000 gallons.

Authentic Berkey filters. I received these filters a couple days ago and the only issue I encountered was due to operator error. 🤣 I misread the instructions and forgot to remove the black plugs from each end of the first filter. Water sprayed everywhere while I tried to get water to go through a capped filter! One thing I did differently... Instructions say to run water through one end and after the water runs clear, repeat this step on the opposite end of the filter and then you're done prepping the filters. After I ran water through both ends, I went back to the first end and tried it again and it was cloudy again so I ran it some more and then did the same for the other side. I flipped back and forth 3-4 times until I didn't see cloudiness. After I installed the new white filters I noticed a faster drip rate. (I was way overdue for replacing these. ) Tips: 1) Our black Berkey filters aren't due for replacement yet so I didn't not remove them from the upper tank because I didn't want to mess with thread integrity of the plastic screws. Also, there's no need to remove the black filters when swapping out the white filters. 2) Berkey recommends scrubbing the outside of the black filters occasionally to maintain filter life. I've never done this, but using a new kitchen brush and water (no soap!) , I scrubbed the sides of the black filters and then rinsed them and the upper chamber several times. ... show more

Easy to install and my water has never tasted better. Got this with this new filter with the Berkey system and I’m very happy with my purchase. Side note/ side story. I have been battling a UTI for months. Two rounds of antibiotics and noting touched it. Two weeks after drinking from this filtering system it was completely gone. They were thinking it was my kidneys. I believe this helped, clean water does magic! ... show more

I ordered through Amazon Prime (I believe delivered by Amazon Warehouse). Arrived fast. 1 brown "rubber" rings was MIA.While not essential (I used the black filter screw/nut(?) instead. Easy to misstep and turn past the "8 rotations" (read manual for why it is a no-no) vs the one w/ the brown ring (feat of strength if you wanted more than 8 turns).I think I popped the screen w/ 8th rotation going into 9/10 as I tried to secure the filters.Sigh. Water ran super milky afterward, I disassembled and flushed again (no idea if that was because I popped the screen). Now things appear working okay. This is my 3rd purchase of this item after a long hiatus (I had a local spring water delivery service). Despite devotion in pregnancy/baby years to distilled water, my kid developed terrible dental fluorosis (so many sources for fluoride, including canned soups, tea, bread - as in the water from baking, etc.). The kid (now a teen) has never been studied for skeletal fluorosis but has an unusual amount of stiffness/joint pain. Anyhow, if I was suspicious about drinking fluoride in pregnancy, the discoloration of my kids teeth (and presumably, his future bone health) resulted in a quest to find ways to remove fluoride from routine consumption - which I soon learned was quite difficult! Always needing a special filter to remove fluoride and many times are unavailable w/ whatever filter system you want to use or cost a lot/add to install complications. Of all the filter systems, Berkey has been the most overall practical if you want the option to remove fluoride and I no longer consider any other choices. There is a trade off - the filters are in the bottom tank and that means you will have less water available for immediate use - this can be an issue the smaller size of your Berkey. Remember to keep track of use, you wont notice if this filter no longer works, as you could from taste on the black filters. These filters will need to be replaced more often. Bonus - how often do you find an affordable filtration that can remove fluoride and chloramines (two of the hardest things to remove from your tap water!!!!!! Thank you Berkey! (On the subject of fluoride - consumption is unnecessary to prevent cavities and why warning labels exist on toothpaste. Yes, there is a folly in distilled water as an exclusive source. As with any water that removes minerals, its important to find alternatives sources - especially in North America were our water's mineral content can be severely lacking in the water supply.This is a benefit of the Berkey is that minerals will remain, and removals are targeted, for example, this filter counters fluoride salt ions.) ... show more

you get what you pay for. the only company that has proven filters. so you could go with cheaper options but there is nothing to prove those companies are actually filtering the water. thats why these are so expensive. good quality and durability. waterflow is good. i had someone put lemons in the top of my filter so i had to remove and clean them out which was easy cleaning. ... show more
