Also use to add ingredients, like chips or nuts, without interrupting the freezing cycle. Easy-lock Lid Transparent to let you watch the freezing process as it progresses. Lid is designed to easily lock to base. Mixing Paddle Mixes and aerates ingredients in freezer bowl to create frozen desserts or drinks. Freezer Bowl Contains cooling liquid within a double insulated wall to create fast and even freezing. Double wall keeps the bowl cool and at an even temperature. Base Contains heavy duty motor strong enough to handle ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet, sorbet and frozen drinks. Rubber Feet Nonslip feet keep base stationary during use. Cord Storage Unused cord is easily pushed into the base to keep counter neat and safe.Freezing Time and Bowl PreparationThe freezer bowl must be completely frozen before you begin your recipe. Before freezing, wash and dry the bowl. The length of time needed to reach the frozen state depends on how cold your freezer is. It is recommended that you place the freezer bowl in the back of your freezer where it is the coldest. Be sure to place the freezer bowl on a flat surface in its upright position for even freezing.Generally, freezing time is between 16 hours and 24 hours. Shake the bowl to determine whether it is completely frozen. If you do not hear the liquid within the bowl moving, the cooling liquid is therefore frozen. For the most convenient frozen desserts and drinks, leave your freezer bowl in the freezer at all times. Use the bowl immediately after removing from the freezer. It will begin to quickly defrost once it has been removed for the freezer.Reminder: Your freezer should be set to 0°F to ensure proper freezing of all foods.Making Frozen Desserts or DrinksUse Cuisinart recipes included in the Instruction Booklet or use your own recipe, making sure it yields 1-1/2 quarts or less. Remove the freezer bowl from the freezer and place on the center of the base. The bowl will begin to defrost quickly once it has been removed from the freezer. Use it immediately after removing from freezer.Place mixing paddle in freezer bowl. It rests in the center of the bowl, with the circle side facing up.Place lid on the base and rotate clockwise until tabs on lid lock in place on base.Press On/Off switch to ON position. Freezer bowl will begin to turn.Immediately pour ingredients through ingredient spout. NOTE: Ingredients must be added to the freezer bowl after the unit is turned on.Frozen desserts or drinks will be done in less than 20 minutes. The time will depend on the recipe and volume of the dessert you are making. When the mixture has thickened to your liking, it is done. If you desire a firmer consistency, transfer the dessert to an airtight container and store in the freezer for two or more hours.Adding IngredientsIngredients such as chips and nuts should be added about 5 minutes before the recipe is complete. Once the dessert has began to thicken, add the ingredients through the ingredient spout. Nuts and other ingredients should be no larger than a chocolate chip.

  • It works great and is a lot of fun.
My husband and got this for ourselves for our 44th Anniversary. We had a ball making sugar free, coconut based “ice cream” Vanilla with chocolate swirls. Our first try and it was delicious. The consistency was just like ice cream. You freeze the bowl first, then put the stirring paddle inside and the cover on. Then pour in the mixture. Our little freezer gets very cold and it froze and churned into ice cream pretty fast. Do mind the bold faced warning to put the paddle in and the cover on first. If you pour in the mixture first, it freezes up fast and the paddle won’t go in. ( Now, how would I know that?) It is a very pretty red. The clean up was easy. ... show more

  • Simple and easy.
Simply stated, this is a very nice appliance. The website has good recipes but you'll find, like i did, that changing them to suit your tastes is easy (think preserves and honey instead of sugar).

  • Perfect size for small batches
I’ve made several batches of ice cream and it works awesome! I’ve found that 3 cups total of liquid ingredients is the right size. Any more and it starts to flow over a bit. I usually add in the extras (chopped cookies, nuts, etc) by hand. I just remove the base then stir in. I bought 8 oz containers on Amazon with lids and it makes about 5 containers. I freeze then thaw for about 15 minutes to eat. Perfect size. Small enough to keep in my freezer at all times so it’s ready to go. Otherwise I just put in the day before I know I’m making a batch. ... show more

  • Easy to use, works well!
I got this ice cream maker because I wanted to make flavors I can't get in the stores, like Green Tea Ice cream. Making your own ice cream is a great way to make it as rich or as simple as you want, or as guilt-free as you want, too. I've never made my own ice cream before this, and I was a bit nervous about buying another appliance just for this, but I really like Green Tea ice cream and the store bought stuff just wasn't hitting the spot. Anyway, after reading the reviews on several ice cream makers, this model appeared to be the best overall for value/cost and ease of use. It was also said to be not as noisy as the others. Once I got it and made my first batch, I was amazed at how easy it was to use. I followed the directions, as well as read the helpful reviews here that had a lot of good tips, the main one being to make sure that your bucket is frozen solid, at least 24 hours, and that your ice cream base mixture has been chilled to be as cold as possible. My first batch only took 12 minutes, much quicker than I thought it would be. I didn't find it to be noisy at all when running, I could certainly talk, and hear over it - it's just a mechanical hum noise, and it's not on that long. One tip, get a plastic or nylon, NOT silicone or metal, scraper to scrape the sides and bottom of the canister to get the rest of your ice cream out. I say no silicone because it's too soft to scrape the sides effectively. Most of the ice cream is like soft-serve, but the sides and bottom will have a layer of hard frozen ice cream. I use a Cuisinart pot scraper that's handheld, no handle, and it has a rubber edge and a nylon edge. The nylon edge easily scrapes off all the ice cream from the sides and bottom. Clean up is extremely easy, everything washed by hand. The ice canister will still be frozen and you can wash it out and put it back in the freezer so you can make another batch sooner, but it has to be dry of all water before you put it back in the freezer. This isn't easy to do when you rinse it out and the remaining water freezes right away before you have a chance to wipe it dry. I just wash it and air dry it, it thaws out, but I only make one batch at a time anyway. Once dry, I do keep my ice canister in the freezer so that it's ready to make ice cream whenever I want, but that's something that's optional depending on how much room you have in the freezer. Overall, I'm glad I got this model. I was lucky to get it on sale at $49, and it's worth it at that price. The other models that have the freezer motor in them are more convenient in that you don't have to worry about freezing the canister in the freezer ahead of time, but the cost is much more expensive, and the appliance is much larger than this one. For a small family of occasional ice cream eaters, a quart at a time, this ice cream maker is perfect. ... show more

  • Makes high quality ice cream
Still fairly new with the product but long enough to know that it does, indeed, make terrific quality ice cream. Know that what comes out of the machine is very soft. It’s not even ‘soft serve’ as it instantly melts. It must be frozen for a spell before eating. Unlike other machines I have not noticed the ice cream from this one turning to crystals after freezing. It’s lovely. However, I have yet to make ice cream with this machine and not have an enormous mess to clean up. It’s very difficult to get the ice cream out of the hopper and into a container. As noted, the ice cream melts instantly but also starts to freeze to the bowl wall the second it stops churning so while you’re dealing with the large quantity of ice cream dripping off your paddle, the majority of your make is freezing to the bowl; melted ice cream all over the machine and counter. The device is a little larger than I expected and is a bit noisy but you can’t beat the price for this quality ice cream. ... show more
