    • NICE LAMP... Visually, On The "SHORT" Side - Still LOOKS/FUNCTIONS WELL After Nine Years

Purchased this in line corded lamp for placement on top of the washer/dryer in my laundry room. Due to difficulty readily reaching the in-line switch that falls behind the washer, I installed it on a special plug designed to make it function as a 3 way touch light. PERFECT for my application as I simply tap any metal portion of the lamp in order to make a regular light bulb function as a 3 way. I enjoy nature themes, and find this lamp makes a great decorative statement in addition to functioning well for general lighting and task lighting. An added bonus of the modified touch lighting is that it serves as a low level light (nightlight) near our laundry room entrance door and powder room. Be advised, this lamp IS quite short, but I was aware of this prior to purchase and was prepared to alter it to suite my taste if need be. For my purpose, I thought it should be an inch or two taller, so to accomplish this, I simply swapped lampshades and installed a harp (rather than using the existing UNO fitting on the lamp). This simple switch easily allowed me to make it a bit taller. The TAUPE lampshade that came with the lamp was striking, however I felt that it made it too dark (not enough light emitting through shade) to illuminate the dark narrow passageway thru our ground floor laundry hallway. All was remedied with a simple off-white no-cost swap-out lampshade from another fixture in our home. I watched the price fluctuations on this lamp and was able to get it at what I felt was reasonable cost. I love the bird/natural motif on this lamp. It fits in well with my decor AND serves to brighten up a rather doldrum area of the house. (One rating star was withheld, however for awkward use of in-line switch and it's overall low height.) 9 YEAR UPDATE: This lamp still looks modern and stylish. Functioning well with the aid of the aforementioned added touch type transformer converter. Nightlight, general, and task lighting at our fingertips. I like this lamp so much and have been so pleased with it's aesthetic and function, that now, as I redesign my walk-in closet, I am considering purchase of the same bird motif lamp for versatile lighting atop the dressing table - albeit this time I have my eye on the GOLD birds and BLACK shade option! ... show more

I purchased the Gold birds with the black lampshade and there was no collar in the box (that had been opened). I did not love the black shade because it looked gray when the light was on. The gold bade looked nice. I had to return it so I tried the brown base with the cream shade and it was very nice and worked for the space I needed. Happy ending and a surprising easy return. Cute lamp, but it definitely has some design flaws.1. The on off is on the cord and is way too far down the cord and should be closer to the lamp base. 2. Lamp is perfect if you set it up above Eye level. Mine was set on an end table and lightbulb shows too much and brightly if you are standing. I modified to a taller harp and spider top lamp shade.
