I found this to be a good kit with good instructions. I watched their videos as well as others, went slow enough and things turned out well. I have a nice garage hobby shop and I make all sorts of things but I don't usually make things requiring exact measurements but found the bed kit pretty easy. It's good to note that when the bed is ready to be moved I to place the front panel is very heavy and awkward. I used 3/4 A-4 walnut plywood with a Baltic Birch core. Those are heavy sheets. If I were to do it again I would use a lighter weight core, either domestic ply core or a premcore to save some weight. Now it's time to build the rest of the wall cabinet to complete the room makeover. ... show more

I am a novice woodworker, not a cabinetry type woodworker. Still this came out great, any problems in the fabrication and mounting were mine alone. The purchase of the Forstner bits,Deburring Tool,MG-022BK for edge taping was well worth the expense. The unit is very easy to open and close even with a fully made up queen sized mattress. Easy to customize if you want to get fancy with some nice moulding and trim. Measuring and cutting precisely are critical to making this work, but if you watch some woodworking videos the pros can point out some cheats that make this easy to do. ... show more

I got the Horizontal Adjustable Queen Bed Kit. My bed is definitely plain because I was in a rush to finish before Christmas, but the instructions don't give detailed trim instructions, only ideas for trim styles you could explore. Overall, I'm glad this product exists and while I wouldn't recommend it to a newbie (like myself), it's definitely doable and very satisfying to complete. You can do most of this solo, but you'll definitely need a helper to install the bed in your room. PROS 1. The value for the money is good in my opinion. ~$400 for the hardware and the plans is fair. 2. The customer service is EXCELLENT. A real person picks up the phone and can help walk you through anything you are stuck on. So, for a newbie woodworker like me, that was invaluable. 3. The design is good. Once built, it feels extremely stable and sturdy. Something I was worried about with some of those prefab'd options out there. 4. The actual build instructions are mostly novice friendly. Once I got help from customer service on material choices, I didn't have much trouble interpreting the steps (minus one thing I'll mention later). Cons 1. The tool list doesn't include a plunge router but the instructions require a routed hole. Only the video on their websites mentions how to achieve this with a forstner bit and chisel. This was the only step that, as a newbie, had me scratching my head. 2. One of the upper plates had a tilt because the metal thickness was 2 mil different end to end. It didn't appear to affect the function (I never requested a replacement) but I think it's noteworthy. 3. The installed header of my bed sagged so much it required shims for the bed to close. I believe this is because my horizontal bed header is much longer than a standard vertical bed. You certainly can't place anything on the header (even though it's a perfect looking shelf) or it will sag further. 4. The instructions don't mention to be SURE your plywood veneer and solid wood parts are the same species of wood. It's likely obvious to experienced builders, but not for newbies like me. ... show more

I can’t say enough good things about the Create-A-Bed Adjustable Full Size Deluxe Murphy Bed Kit! The kit itself is incredible — the build process was super easy thanks to the extremely detailed instructions. Even as someone who's not particularly handy, I had no trouble putting everything together. That said, I did run into a small issue due to user error (completely my fault). Here’s where the customer service absolutely blew me away. I called the number on the packet and was amazed when an actual human answered right away — no endless phone menus, no long hold times. Within a minute, I was speaking to another human who not only knew exactly what I had done wrong but also walked me through the solution step by step with patience and clarity. This level of customer care is almost unheard of these days! They turned what could have been a frustrating situation into a positive experience that made me love this company even more. If you’re considering this kit, don’t hesitate — it’s a fantastic product backed by THE BEST customer service I’ve ever encountered. Highly recommend! ... show more

Now that the murphy bed it finished the hardware works great. I wanted to have more space in my office and the ability to put the bed up and down is a lifesaver. I do only use the bed a couple times a year but it has been going strong. The instructions with the hardware are great. As a novice builder the instructions made sense and my family and I were able to build it all in a few days. Two novice woodworkers able to figure it out. Watch the videos carefully and read every step 5 times. Recommend buying quality wood, I think we were $800 total on this project. We haven’t styled it yet, but works great so far as a guest bed in the baby room. Capitalizing on a small space. Maybe I’ll update with a final pic.
