So I have mixed reviews on this scanner. I was hella excited to get it and had a few things I wanted to reproduce. But it is VERY difficult to get around the learning curve. Figuring out how to edit the part when it has holes in it is difficult, it constantly loses tracking. I realize a lot of it is user error, but I’m pretty good at figuring things out, and I still have not been able to complete one scan and 3d print it. Yes, if it’s a very simple shape, no problem, but any thing hollow, or flat, or shiny, or a million other things, and it gets tricky. I feel like it’s not worth the money right now, just because it’s not very intuitive. I will continue to learn and eventually I’ll get it, because it’s a great tool to have. But as of right now, I can only give it 3 stars. It’s very well built and packaged, no complaints there . But hard as hell to use

The accuracy is great, however it did take me some time to perform a calibration, being a first time 3D scanner user, never even saw a video about it and following the Application prompt/example had me trying to figure this out for quite a while, until I gave up and looked up a youtube video of someone performing the calibration and notice what I was doing wrong. Do not follow the prompts rather check the techniques of online users. You'll get much better results.

Your lighting, angle, and distance have to be just right. I wasn't able to get good scans using my cell phone as there is insufficient feedback to properly focus the unit on the object. The laptop software is better as there is more visual feedback, but this obviously isn't as convenient for scanning in the field. I found several helpful YouTube videos that would be worth your time if you're considering this device.

Received a defective unit (the buttons do not work) and when I tried to get a replacement, I was re-directed to their "cust service". I ended up getting a scammer that tried to hijack my Facebook account. They wanted me to add some random profile on Facebook that had nothing to do with Creality presumably to take over my account and possibly get my credit card info. So now I'm stuck with a $900 brick and no recourse. These guys need to be banned from Amazon.

I needed to scan an object and I saw this, it was the cheapest 3D scanner with great reviews. As soon as it arrived I opened it up, installed the software and used it. It worked exactly as I expected, no issues, it works great.

This is my first 3D scanner and I'm very impressed so far. I can say that the first thing I learned is that 3D scanning is a skill that needs to be learned; the models in these examples come out incredible and it's really worth the time to practice, practice, practice following the video tutorials. The Creality CR-Scan Otter itself and the software seem very well put together and well made, and I had everything working (including data transfer) pretty quickly.
