I ordered the Craftsman 18 inch electric chainsaw with the idea of doing a little lite pruning of some Crape Myrtles. What I discovered was that my conception of what an electric chainsaw was differed greatly from reality. I have never owned or used an electric one before and always thought of them as under powered. I was wrong. It worked so well for trimming the Crape Myrtles I decided to cut up some wood for our firepit. It cut through 10 inch diameter oak without the slightest problem. Saw works well and has enough power for what I need it for. Not sufficient if you want to cut down a tree of buck a bunch of wood. The only issue is the chain tensioner, all these new chain saws are trying to make it easier by adding a simple knob to lock it in place. Doesn’t work as well as the old fashioned screw tightening but is much easier. Lightweight and works as well as one could expect for a chainsaw priced under a hundred dollars. ... show more

While trying to trim some overgrown bushes in my garden, I found the Craftsman Electric Chainsaw. Curious, I decided to test it out. I easily gripped its comfortable handle, turned it on, and the chain began to move smoothly. The chainsaw worked great, easily cutting through the tough branches. It was efficient and made the job simple. After using it, I was surrounded by the scent of fresh-cut wood. The branches I had problems with were now neatly trimmed. All I can say is WOW!! We put this saw to the test and it passed with flying colors! The one thing that I don't like about it is that when you stop, the chain keeps going for a little bit.     • Better than expected
This little saw is awesome. I've used many gas powered saws in my life time and this one holds up with them all. It's a 14" bar but that's all I needed for this job, had some trees in the backyard that were dead and needed to be dropped. This little guy never bogged down or got hung ( as long as you know how to cut trees, there is a technique to it). The chain is pretty good quality and only fluid you need is oil. I recommend using a bar and chain oil but you can use any oil you'd like really. I used some old motor oil I had laying around but you can also use cooking oil as well. It's pretty light weight I was able to sling it around every which way with no issues. No doubt I'll have this tool a while ... show more

This saw is a remarkable value for the price. It work better than I expected for an electric. The tool-free chain adjuster and auto-oiler are very convenient. Here is my concern. What appears to be a safety chain brake just in front of the handle is nothing more than a plastic guard, yet the obviously designed it to look like a chain brake. That seems dishonest. Also, not having a clutch, the chain continues to freewheel after releasing the trigger. That is a big safety concern as well. ... show more
