Description

This easy-to-install Wixey WR700 Saw Fence Digital Readout kit comes with all the mounting hardware needed to retrofit Biesemeyer, Delta, Vega, General, Ryobi, Ridgid, Jet, Powermatic, and almost any other round rail or rectangular rail fence. As in other Wixey digital readouts the full function display measures in inches with fractions or millimeters. It has both absolute and incremental measuring modes and retains the calibrated setting even when turned off. The unit can be calibrated to either the left or right side of the blade and the auto shut off function preserves the battery. The WR700 has a resolution of .005”, 1/32”, or 0.1mm along with an accuracy of .002” per ft. of measuring length and a repeatability of +/-.0025”. It utilizes the patent pending “Precise Fraction Technology” used in many Wixey products which gives the displayed fractions an accuracy of 1/500” (.002”). The WR700 comes with 63” of track which is attached to the bottom of the existing fence rail using the supplied self threading screws and drill bits. The digital readout can be attached to either the left or right side of the fence and attaches using a unique magnet system which allows the fence to be removed leaving the readout in place and calibrated at all times. Note: This does not include the fence Note: Will not fit the following: SkillSaw 15 Portable", Dewalt Portable saws, Makita , Bosch Portable Saw From the Manufacturer This easy-to-install Wixey WR700 Saw Fence Digital Readout kit comes with all the mounting hardware needed to retrofit Biesemeyer, Delta, Vega, General, Ryobi, Ridgid, Jet, Powermatic, and almost any other round rail or rectangular rail fence. • Dead accurate
Product Packaging: Frustration-Free Packaging
After owning another Wixey product: a remote planer readout and being absolutely delighted with its accuracy and repeatability I tried the table saw fence readout to couple with a new Vega fence. The readout unit installed on the left side of the fence locking mechanism with only one drilled hole (which Wixey even supplies the drill and screw for, a really nice touch since drill size and self-tapping screw size is a critical combination for a trouble free self-threading)). I had a bit of trouble, however, setting up the system, as the readout unit needed a bit of adjustment to get it to slide onto one of the two pieces of track that fit end-to-end. At first I couldn't see how it could slide on one piece and then bind up a bit on the other one since the two tracks were within 5 thousandths of one another in the part that the readout slides on. But the directions say "loosen the screws on the back of the readout" until the unit slides freely but without any slop. What the directions didn't tell me was that I needed to actually [carefully] pry the unit apart slightly to get that screw loosening to do anything. I was a bit paranoid to go prying apart an electronic device for fear of breaking it and having a bigger problem on my hands. So, I contacted Wixey and got the skinny on how the readout unit fits together (in one day by email - pretty darn good customer service - and from a guy named "Wixey." That sounded good to me!). At his direction I pried it apart slightly to get it to loosen up just a bit, re-tightened the screws a little bit and then did that a couple of times to achieve the required free-sliding, but not binding condition. After that little hick-up it works like my planer readout - perfectly and repeatably. Wixey is the way to go if you want dead-accurate and repeatable results. I've got some other brand digital readout devices and not all of them "keep their brain" and must be re-calibrated periodically (or in the case of some brands - must be constantly re-calibrated). I have not had to re-calibrate the planer readout at all since setting it up (which was easy), and it is dead on every time. By "dead-on" I mean within a hundredth of a millimeter compared to digital calipers using a spiral planer cutter head on perfectly set-up planer in-feed/out-feed and bed rollers .002 above bed). I love that! So far in the two days of use, cutting some pretty expensive 10 quarter Walnut it has produced (with a properly set-up Vega fence)some cuts that are the same on the readout as with digital calipers. Sweet. If it were a perfect world this readout would have 2 AAA batteries in it like the remote planer readout rather than a big button battery. Remembering to turn it off rather than waiting for it to turn itself off should extend battery life until that little caveat is addressed in the next iteration. I wouldn't wait just for that to buy it now though. I wish someone had made this thing 25 years ago. I wonder how much time I've spent collectively just setting my fence with a tape measure over the years... Get it now. You won't be sorry. UPDATE: After several projects including a walnut and cherry double chest of drawers I am glad to say the Wixey gauge is still dead on. I only had to recalibrate it once when I re-calibrated the parallel of blade to table slot. The Wixey makes fast, accurate and repeatable cuts. I don't even check the results much any more (after about 200 times because of paranoia)since they are always right. ... show more

  • Rod Betts - Wixey Table Saw Digital Readout
Product Packaging: Frustration-Free Packaging
Just installed this item onto my Jet table saw. It was quite easy to do so, even though the instructions are overly simplified. Here are a few comments that may be helpful: 1) This product would be much better if the rail came as one piece instead of two. Assembling and aligning the two halves is awkward and time consuming. Supplied assembly screws are to short to use with a washer, which would help in assembly and alignment. I assembled the two halves as carefully as possible, clamping the two halves to a straight edge, etc. but they still didn't align correctly. I had to sand and file and fit. Even then, where the two halves meet, one half of the scale was a bit higher than the other. I could never get this just right. The readout slides over the joint without difficulty, and readout numbers seem to remain accurate, but you can feel and hear a slight bump as it does so, which is a bit unsettling. 2) It may prove to be a bit too easy to reset zero. If you hold down the on/off button a little too long, zero resets itself. If you get distracted, or you're not careful, this might happen, although I haven't used the scale enough yet to know for sure. When turning the display off, the display goes blank when you release the on/off button so if you're watching it, and waiting for the display to go away as you hold down the button, you'll reset zero every time. 3) It's easy to set zero anytime you wish. All I did was move the fence over until it just touched the side of the saw blade and held down the on/off button. I then checked a sawed board against three tape measures I have in the shop and made needed adjustments. The three tape measures all measure slightly different so I took an average. Accurate enough, I think, for woodworking. It only took a couple of minutes, but, still, I wouldn't want to be doing it all the time. 4) I installed the system to work only on the right hand side of the blade. It could be set to work on both sides but you would need to reset zero each time you changed blade sides. The readout reads in negative numbers on the left side of the blade and in positive numbers on the right side. When installing the system only to read on the right hand side, the scale is plenty long. If you centered it to work on both sides, it would be too short for much of the work you would likely be doing. 5) This system is made in China. Given the average quality of Chinese made stuff, that worries me. I'll just have to wait and see. 6) One thing I really like - the display unit attaches to the fence with a built-in magnet. It seems to be plenty strong to keep things in place. If you want to remove the saw fence from the saw, which I do often, all you need to do is slide the readout unit away from the fence and lift it (the fence) off. I didn't know this before I bought and was concerned that it might be a more difficult chore. All that said, this is a handy apparatus and I look forward to getting to know it better. I sure hope it still works, and works well, after a couple of years. ... show more
