The mower is a very good product and fir the price its a deal. It will last years if taken care of. Its built well and very easy to work on. Its not meant for hired day to day work. Its for home owners. Plenty of power and rides well Personally the only negative for me is you cant reverse when the blades are engaged. That gets to be annoying because you have to disengage the power to the blades first or it will cut the engine off. In tight areas where theres is no room to turn around then it becomes frustrating One other small item is the fuel tank is held in with only one black tie wrap. So it moves around quite a bit. Not sure why this was designed this way so add your own tie downs. A gas tank should not wobble. The reverse issue is easily deactivated if desired. Started right up and runs beautifully, It is also a quiet engine. Mows like a dream. The shippers were on time and set the crate right where I wanted it. Mowed grass 3 times and carb needed adjusted and cleaned by warrenty shop. Wouldn't go into gear and shop needed to reset the vari pulley. For a 2k+ mower MTD need to get there act together. Craftsman used to be a name you can depend on. If it's going to cost me $110.00 every 3 mowes to have the cab and pulley adjusted which is ironically not under warranty. We won't be using Craftsman products anymore. Even the warranty shop stated MTD is having issues and recommended getting a more dependable brand. ... show more

From the start let me say that the item itself was in perfect shape. Not a dent or scratch, and once I got it unpacked and assembled it started immediately without any fuss. That said the 'crate' it came in was a real piece of work to take apart and get off the trailer. I shouldn't pitch a fit because I'm 80 and this old gray guy ain't what I used to be. Anyway, it did its first complete yard mowing, about 1/2 acre +, without a hitch and once I get used to the different controls from my older Craftsman it will be fine. Plenty of torque and as much speed as you might need, but for me what passes for #3 on the CVT speed setting was relaxing. The brake/clutch peddle on the left takes some getting used to since it engages 'right now' if you get my drift. Locally these had been advertised at $23-2400 so I think the price ($2049 shipped) was a solid buy. Oh, yeah. That doesn't include the 5% I get back so I see it as costing $1997 I'm 6'2" so even with the seat back as far as it will go I'm a bit cramped for leg room but aside from that the seating is comfortable. The turning circle is small enough and certainly quick enough, so it doesn't require a lot of horsing to get around the yard and the many obstacles. I expect that with proper care and a good cleaning after every use that it will give me all the mower I need for however many years I'll be mowing any lawns<G><G> ... show more

I purchased this mower from Amazon only because Sears is no longer in business. I am very disappointed. The mower came enclosed somewhat with boards, resting on a pallet. My husband had to use his hammer to remove all the boards which was very tedious. Then, surprise, the mower was not put together totally, so he had to assemble the parts that were not on. NEVER again would I purchase any large item from Amazon. It was $100 cheaper than Lowe's and I fell for that. Happily, the mower is up and running. Hopefully, we will get another 18 year run from this one. I am not optimistic. This one is not as sturdy and well-built as the one we bought from Sears 2008. Let's see! I gave it 3 stars because of the manner in which it was delivered, compared to when Sears delivered it. We had to do nothing but poured gasoline in and drive. ... show more
