This is our second summer using these portable AC units. We bought two. One for upstairs master bedroom and one for downstairs living room. We live in New England and don't have central AC. This is my first time living in a home without central AC. These units are great for those New England days that get into the upper 80's and 90's. So they don't get run that often. Probably less than 30 days per year and only a few hours on those days. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the units are quirky. Turning on the power button somehow kicked one into "Dehumidifying" mode instead of staying in "Cool" mode. And somehow, I have locked the controls for the upstairs one. It only turns on with the remote instead of being able to use the power button on the machine itself. I probably hit the wrong sequence of buttons. I need to check the manual again. Overall, very pleased!

We got three months out of this unit. And even during those three months the room still wasn't as cool as we thought it should be. If it had continued to give us that, then I'd be fine for the cost of the unit but that's not the case. This thing is pouring out at least three gallons of water a day. The first time it blew out the drain plug instead of shutting down and ruined my hardwood floor. Now, we run it with the unit sitting in a plastic tray (how's that tacky view) with the drain hose going into a bucket. Thankfully I work from home so I can continuously check and empty the bucket. I'm in the Northeast so it's not like I'm dealing with southern humidity and I have a Black & Decker on the second floor (heat rises) that has never needed to be drained. Save a little more and spend it on a better unit.

For the first few days I noticed a smell in my apartment and thought it was a burst pipe in another apartment bc it smelled like sewage but after some experimenting I noticed it was the AC and so I drained both the ports which by the way was tricky and the top port has a major design flaw, the reserve I assume is very small because it didnt have much in the drain to drain but I noticed if I have it on a platform of sorts and leave the bottom drain stopper out with a bowl or bucket underneath for constant drainage then the smell goes away and it works fine. So if anyone buys this and notices a smell it's not ur apartment it's the water system in the AC other than that it works wonderfully but I don't know how the dehumidifier feature works and with a small reserve I don't know if I want to find out.
