  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Elderly diy'ers beware!
Color: Brown
This is more like a public service announcement for any elderly folks out there thinking this might be the ideal solution to save a little money by assembling the chair yourself....I will post a review in a few days after I have used the chair and see if my opinion could possibly improve... I am going to assume that most of you folks looking at this chair are like me in that you have medical issues that the powered recline, and lift functions would benefit you. Also like me, you may have assembled other recliners or furniture in the past, and felt you could capably assemble this one..... Be aware; you are going to have to first assemble the chair arms which are metal square tubing rails screwed together with long screws and PVC tubing ( roughly 10 screws each arm) using an Allen wrench. Not too difficult but if you have arthritic hands this task will just begin to initiate the inflammation.... Next, on each arm you have to slip on a beauty cover(?) that you have to pull and stretch to secure it with the sewn on Velcro strips... Slightly difficult, and resulting increased burn of your finger and wrist joints... Next comes the actual outer cover with it's thicker fabric and sewn in padding, much harder to manipulate than the previous cover. Incredible difficulty to stretch the fabric and compress the padding in order to get the Velcro strips to adequately line up. Be certain the cover is perfectly positioned on the frame first or else you will be removing and repositioning to get it to fit. Congratulations, you can now add upholsterer to your resume, and sorry, your hands are likely really fired up now.... Not done stretching fabric yet, but at this point it becomes important to bring up an issue to consider: if you bought this chair for the lift function because it is hard to rise from a chair, then it is quite likely it's even harder to rise up from the floor, which some of the next steps are going to require bending or kneeling to accomplish. The chair seat/base is quite heavy and if you can't bend enough to get eye level with what you're doing, you may be faced with lifting the base onto it's sides or front edges and balancing it while you stretch the seat cushion to the base, again to match up those Velcro strips.... Also at this point you have to partially connect the wiring and actuate the lift enough to access the side Velcro strips so you can join them up. No problem, the connectors are reachable if the base is tilted on to it's front, otherwise they are at floor level.... Now you place the seat back on to the base, simple as just aligning two brackets and sliding them together by pushing down on the seat back... Down to floor level once more to finish the electrical connections, your back, hips and knees are thankful that's the last time for that.... IF you are lucky!!! Pop on the arms and the wings, and Hooray ready for the test! First thing is try the heat and massage, your aching body will love it. Recline works, gonna take some getting used to, for sure... Now here is where my experience may differ from yours, I try the lift and it works fine up to it's highest point.....push reset button to lower... NOPE. Step out of chair and images of this thing being potentially stuck in this awkward position fill my mind... This thing is useless if I can't get it to come down somehow. No choice now but to AGAIN get down to the floor and troubleshoot. Checked wiring connections, green light on lift motor power box on, heat and massage work, looked for binding, but no go. One last try, flexed all the motor wires some to see if anything obvious.... VIOLA it works! I manage to get my body off the floor, retract the chair to the sitting position, and sit down to contemplate that I now own a chair with an apparent intermittent electrical problem, that can possibly leave me in a reclined position, or even the lifted position, if I'm brave enough to try it, and not to even think of it being a possible fire hazard, which was already a mild concern due to the idea of a heat unit inside a chair...LOL Would like to end it here, but have to update that after the third time to use the heat and massage functions, they now no longer work either.... Should have followed the instructions recommending not to use it too much at first... My body hasn't recovered from the assembly, so I am not yet ready to troubleshoot this problem. I think I have given fair ratings for the assembly and ease of operation questions, and generously gave three stars overall, I will now see if the seller or Amazon cares to reach out in any way... As mentioned before a full review shall be coming to detail the delivery issues experienced, and the comfort and durable ness of this chair, too much to describe in one review... ... show more

This product was not advertised that it came in pieces and had to be built! People who need this chair donโ€™t want to build a chair! I wish I had just returned it but too late now!

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Must be mechanically inclined to DIY.
Color: Brown
I like the recliner/lift chair. Assembly: DIY; Tools: L-wrench provided The attached picture is showing the rail arms of the chair after the spacer poles were installed and before the covers were put on. I broke a sweat, but I recommend it for people with drive and patience. It can be done. The video that peaked my interest in the Comhoma recliner/lift chair, was misleading and so were the instructions. I read the instruction booklet before I began. The video showed two boxes, whereas this chair came in one large, heavy box. I knew the chair would come in sections, but did not expect to assemble those sections. Good luck. ... show more
