    • Bang and flash from heater set off video monitor in room alerting that there was someone in the room
The media could not be loaded. I bought this Comfort Zone CZ499R Oscillating Ceramic Tower Heater based on the glowing Consumer Reports high rating of this space heater. I am very surprised that they gave it such a high rating. After a few days, I got an alert on my video monitor in my rec room at 2:20 am that there was someone in the room when there was no one in the room. Looking at the video recording, I saw a change in the lighting, heard a loud bang, and saw a flash of light, which is what triggered the alert. I went down to the rec room to check and didn't hear a bang or notice a flash while I was there but when I left the room, I got more alerts that someone was in the room. I checked the alerts and the same thing was happening on every alert--a shift in the lighting, a loud bang, and a flash of light. I turned the heater off for a day and then turned it back on the next day. After a few hours, the bangs and light flashes started happening again. This made me nervous that it is overheating and might cause a power surge and result in a fire. So I will be returning it and find a different space heater. It is hard to understand why Consumer Reports rated this as a safe heater. The heat is very good, though. ... show more

    • Works well for the money.
This little heater works very well considering it only cost $54. It’s a little noisy but not too bad. It has four modes; fan only, low heat, high heat and thermostat. The thermostat feature is what we use because it turns the unit off once a a certain is reached. The unit even comes with a remote. One thing I don’t like is the tiny screen it has to show how it is set. Another thing is the oscillator function which has the unit sweep from left to right about 90 degrees doesn’t work too well and hangs up sometimes. The unit also has a very sensitive safety feature which shuts off the power if you try to move it. I like this. ... show more

Bought last winter, worked great. Been sitting since it is the summer. Got chilly in my house so I went to turn it on but it wouldn't come on. Beeped and then cut itself off. Didn't last long.

I purchased this space heater several months ago. I did not check to see if it worked okay, so my bad. But when it oscillates, or TRIES to oscillate I should say, it creaks & groans moving side to side & also gets stuck! Then it creaks & groans some more trying to get unstuck. I cannot run the oscillator b/c it's just too noisy & disruptive to listen to! So I'll have to buy another different space heater b/c the oscillating feature was one of the main reasons I bought it in the first place.
