I think too many people have too high expectations when purchasing an office chair for less than $500. This is a $200 chair, made in China - as are 95% of all office chairs these days, the difference in prices reflects quality control and materials used. A $200 or less chair is going to be pleather, how thick? Varies. Will it last? Probably not... so some things to consider - get a chair cover, makes it last longer, if you are heavy, get a $10 dollar gas lift clamp to fix the height in place - simple (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09PN25FDW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Is the chair comfortable? I'm 6'0" 260lbs - and it is comfy for now, but the cushion will likely flatten over time. No worries, I have a Purple cushion handy for when that happens - those last forever. Setting expectations correctly MUST be part of the process! You sort of get what you pay for... people expecting an office chair that is perfect for their body and lasts forever while paying on the cheap are simply not being realistic. I'm a big man, this chair took me 30 minutes to assemble - tip: don't tighten anything until ALL the bolts are started. Absolutely love the arm rests, for a guy my size, they are a perfect height, perhaps a 1/2" high. The fact that they a) are short for desk work and b) flip up is just stellar - main reason I bought this chair! The contour of the seat back is also perfect, pretty close to 90º and the lumbar support is just right for me. I broke my back 30 years ago and have a difficult time with chairs that come with a seat back angled backward. This seat back has you sitting 100% upright. The seat width is ample for my lard butt and the front edge of the seat rolls off gently for less circulation strain behind the knees. For $200, and someone 5'9" to 6'0" and likes to sit up straight, this chair should be a perfect fit. The legs/base are a resin material and the casters are cheap nylon, they roll fine on a vinyl plank floor or that industrial hotel room low pile carpet. Might want to replace with softer/rubber universal aftermarket type if using a chair mat, especially one that sits on thicker carpet or a hardwood floor. Note on gas lift cylinders; they all leak down over time no matter the 'class' rating. Most have the bottom of the cylinder 'crimped', these wear out faster than the ones that have a welded bottom. This particular gas cylinder, while only rated as a Class III (250lbs), does in fact have a welded bottom, so for lighter folks, this will last a bit longer than most - see above for a "gas cylinder holder" if you are a heavier person. We ordered the pack of two chairs and unfortunately only one was delivered. We had to call Amazon customer service to assist where the other chair is. They in return are reaching out to the seller to hopefully get this issue taken care of and send us the second chair. Very disappointed this happen after waiting for both chairs to arrive and tracking the delivery. Now on the one chair we got and put together we are extremely HAPPY with it. SUPER COMFORTABLE and easy to put together. Love the chair. Once we receive the second chair we paid for I will update my review with all 5 Stars. I looked forward to having this chair for a year and a half, Finally bit the bullet and I've never been so disappointed...my issues were not immediately apparent. The first time I sat in it...I was excited for it to be perfect, and it was... NOT. It wasn't "bad," I thought initially...maybe just DIFFERENT from the comfy kitchen chair it replaced. But over and above the comfort issues, for senior citizens, it is just NOT SAFE. There are two main safety factors. The first has to do with the arms/elbow rests. I made sure to find one that had arms that could fold up and out of the way in case I needed to get up close to a table or work surface. The arms swivel up and out of the way just fine; however, the arms themselves create a "fall risk" for anyone who needs to pull his chair under him before he sits...this is the case with most seniors. Others besides seniors may also have the habit of holding onto chair arms when lowering into a chair.. If you back up to this chair and try to reach back for the arms, they are so far back you can't grasp them to pull the seat under you without losing your balance or dislocating your shoulders. It's a very unstable situation...several times now, the chair has rolled back away from me because I was grasping for the arm and missed. I nearly sat on the floor...and at age 80, that's a broken hip and possibly the end of life. If each armrest were about 4" longer, I could grasp them without pulling my shoulders out of their sockets grappling to stabilize the chair before sitting. Sadly.,..,the chair is all put together, and there's no way I can return it and get my $169 plus tax BACK. So, I am going to have to get my husband or son to try to construct prosthetic armrests that can be securely affixed. But that's not the only problem. Perhaps if you are a senior who weighs 98 lbs. and has very short legs, it might be more comfortable. I am only 5' 3" but I have long legs. The seat from front to back doesn't measure short...it measures about 19" but he lumbar protrusion in the back of the seat is so pronounced that it is impossible to get a wider backside into the chair without feeling like it is about to shove me forward off on the floor. It's just not compatible with older spines in more weight-incumbered seniors. That's an insecure feeling. As far as it's looks and quality, I have no complaints, but the chair is very uncomfortable and unsafe for senior citizens who have long legs and are not very thin. The sad part is, like anything as big and assembly-necessary or as personal as a chair, it's better NOT to buy some things on line since that negates any possibility of sending it back! UPDATE: In liew of eventually spending more than I paid for the chair to return it, the company was, I must say, very eager to have me BE PLEASED...first they offered me $30.00 credit to Amazon account, which I rejected. Then, they offered $60...which I also rejected after spending $170 in the first place on a chair I can't use safely. The company, at least gave me lip service as far as taking my suggestions for improvements back to their manufacturing 'drawing board.' Not sure if this really happened, but at least they entertained the notion! Finally, I realized I was going to lose my battle, and when they offered me an $80 credit, I told them I'd accept that and just try to sell the chair myself or give it away...which was THEIR suggestion. At least they were cooperative and VERY POLITE. So, in the long run, this was the most gracious and polite LOSS of $90.00 I've ever encountered. Ooops that maybe didn't sound as grateful as I really am. I will give the COMPANY an extra star for their desire to please their customers; however, be warned that they will also blow up your email relentlessly! ... show more
