They retract all the way when not in use. I had a cheaper pair before that did not retracked all they way and where scratching up my body. The female end stays in place and you do not have to fumble around to look for it. You just grab the male side and plug it in with one hand. I only used this in my front seat because with it on the back I can not fold the seat up and down. Still 100% worth it just for the front! ... show more
