I don't think this will last as long as the claim but it's lasting pretty well. Most "permanent" dyes wash out rather quickly anyway in my experience so this is fine. The color is really nice (maybe a little darker then pictured but I find that to be the case with most browns so expected that) and doesn't have that kind of plum mahogany tone a lot of browns have (which I don't care for). I used it to dye over orange hair (previously used bleach followed by henna) and it got rid of that pretty well (still has red tones but not in a bad way - more noticeable in sunlight). Also as someone who doesn't like scents in things, this is pretty mild smelling and not harsh. Even the conditioner is pretty light smelling for me. :) ... show more

I have grays on top and all around my head, most are hidden but there are a lot of white, and gray and I have medium length hair. Make sure you have at least 2.5 hours of time to read and complete this hair coloring on your own. I decided to use a brush to apply the product to my hair after squeezing it on my hair line per the paper instructions. Do the front of both sides first after you section your hair into 4 quadrants and tie it up or clip each section. Start at the root and do your best to rub it in so it saturates all strands. Start the timer after you have done the 2 front ( left and right) sections. Be prepared to leave the product on for at least 30 minutes. It doesn’t drip as much as some reviews suggested, but it does stain skin, clothes, and surfaces. I covered my neck down with a big plastic bag and rub Vaseline petroleum jelly around and behind my ears, on back of my neck, on forehead, top of nose across and above my eyebrows and on both sides of my face near my ears. Wear 2 pairs of gloves so it’s easier to switch once you have to rinse the product off with just warm water in the shower. A little dollop of the conditioner goes a long way even though my hair is a few inches past my shoulders. I find that rinsing is a bit time-consuming because I don’t think I was able to rinse all the product off. Found this out after I thought the water looked clear, but after I rinsed the conditioner off after applying it and leaving it on hair for 2 minutes, there was still some gray tint in the water as I was rinsing the conditioner off. I’d do the first rinse without using gloves so I can scrub the color off with my nails more. By the way, make sure your hair is dirty when you color it so the natural hair oil will protect your scalp from the harshness of the hair dye chemicals!! Today is the 10th day and I’ve used the conditioner only a total of 1 time. My hair is still blue black from the coloring (my natural hair is black with white and gray), but it doesn’t look blue in person. I did not see any grays or white hair, and my hair looks smooth & healthy naturally. No bald spots at all! P.S.: photos are my hair a few hours after I colored it. You can see some blue around the hair line, but I used facial wipes to easily remove it. ... show more

I’m a white woman in my 30’s with long baby fine hair, and a natural hair color of the lightest brown and I’ve been dying my hair midnight black with this product for the past decade and it works out well each time. I get the semi permanent just so it won’t damage my hair even more than it is. I might even try a different color at some point for a new look. It comes with everything you need in the box for one time use: 1 pair of disposable gloves (which are huge on my hands so I just wear my own), a tube of color cream, a bottle of color activator (for mixing the 2 together), a tube of color treat conditioner, and instructions. I let the dye stay on my roots for about an hr just cause my natural hair color is light brown. There is enough of the color treat conditioner left in the tube so that you can use it for a few hair washings to help keep the color from coming out. *FYI: if you tend to sweat sometimes while sleeping in a hot or warm climate make sure you wear a cap or have something over your pillow to protect it, When you sweat the hair color tends to come out and will stain fabric. ... show more

I tried this product first in the Burgundy color, and it covered all my gray and lasted a really long time. But I didn't like the color that much (too purply). So I switched to the Cool Brown and now the Medium Brown. These colors are okay, but they don't cover my gray hair completely. However, it turns some of my gray hair into a kind of golden color, which I actually like, so it's good for me. But if your looking to turn your stubborn gray hair to brown, it might not work that well. It really needs to be used montly, but I stretch it to every two months, since I hate coloring my hair. ^^ I really like this product because it is gentler on the hair than permanent hair colors, so I will keep using this product. ... show more

I have streaks of gray. I colored my hair with this for a special occasion/trip where I didn't feel like having silver streaks. More than two months later, my grays have grown out an inch, and the dye has faded, but definitely not gone. It colored well, looked good for weeks. I'm not sure how long it's going to take to be completely gone (if ever), but it blends okay and is less harsh of a line than if I would have colored with permanent dye. You do have to be careful in the first few days if your hair is damp, it will transfer to towels, shirts and pillowcases. ... show more
