For some people, a good cooking set can last a lifetime. I’m not one of those people. I’d like to be. I’d like to say, “I love my saucepan because it does X,” or “I’d never take the chance boiling noodles in anything other than my noodle pot,” but I don’t cook enough to recognize or appreciate the small incremental improvements. And frankly, nobody in my family would listen if I wanted to talk about it afterward. I do like sets, though, because when I do cook, I tend to use every tool in the kitchen. So I jumped at this set when I got the opportunity. I also liked that none of the cookware is coated with PTFE or other PFAS chemicals, so I didn’t have to possibly trade a nonstick surface for future genetic mutational damage. You’ll notice that all of the pan surfaces are “protected” with LaserDefense, which is Circulon’s name for a laser-etched pattern built into the ceramic cooking surface. Instead of a smooth coating, the surface has a fine textured pattern created by lasers. The idea is that this pattern helps reduce direct contact between utensils and the coating, which can slow wear and scratching over time. Circulon claims improved scratch resistance and longer-lasting release compared to standard ceramic coatings. The design itself is real and visible. The performance claims are based on Circulon’s internal testing rather than publicly available third-party studies, so it’s best viewed as a durability enhancement rather than a guarantee. In actual cooking, the ceramic surface performs as expected when new. Eggs, bacon, and veggie sausage (interesting combination, I know) release easily with minimal oil. Cleanup was simple, with nothing sticking. The pans are rated dishwasher safe and oven safe, though the glass lids have a lower heat limit than the pans themselves. For long-term use, moderate heat and hand washing still make the most sense if you want the coating to last. This set works well for everyday home cooking. It is not meant for constant high-heat searing, but it handles normal stovetop and oven use comfortably. Circulon's Halo cookware in the monochromatic white is beautiful! They're light compared to a couple of very expensive stainless "famous chef" pans we have. Heat resistant handles are comfortable, shaped for control, and riveted for strength. They heat up quickly on a gas stove, with lids that have silicone lips to help prevent scratches on the pan edges. So far we've only used two pieces, the 10" skillet and the 5qt. pan, and both have been fast cleanup and 100% non-stick. The skillet with scrambled eggs wiped up with a paper towel, and used again that evening for grilled cheese. Even though Swiss and American cheese oozed from the sandwich and cooked onto the pan's surface it still wiped clean with no effort or scrubbing. We did have a little cheese and browned butter combo find its way to the white exterior, perfect time to check the cleanup in the dishwasher. Verdict? Absolutely spotless. Last night it was the 5qt saute pan's turn. My wife did pork chops in it on our gas stove, where she sears them first and then reduces heat and covers to finish. The process always leaves brown stains. Not this time. Wiped it out with a dish cloth, then upside down in the dishwasher, and noting two brown drip stains on the exterior. This morning it is spotless, just like the skillet. No exterior stains, and no signs it was ever used. So my two biggest questions were answered. The surface is truly non-stick, and the white exterior really does resist staining. The only thing of note so far is the small 10" fry pan's handle stayed cool whether cooking eggs or browning a sandwich. The 5qt pan's handles did get warmer, particularly the u-shaped support handle. If cooking chicken or chops, or anything that will brown or simmer for a while we will be using potholders. The long handle didn't get warm enough to burn your hand, but the support one would be iffy. Overall this is the finest non-stick cookware we have ever used. Resistant to stains, non-stick, dishwasher safe, heats quickly, good-fitting lids, strong handles, and wonderful color that impresses hanging on the pot rack. ... show more

If you are looking for a good high end set of pots and pans, you could do much worse than the Circulon Halo with LaserDefense. While there are many others out there that may look similar, the Circulon have several noticable features that add to the quality and make this set worth the price. First, if you are expecting a pan that you don't have to use oil on and nothing will ever stick, then you might be disappointed. These have a great not-stick surface that appears to be very durable (only time will tell), but you still will need a little bit of oil or butter in your cooking. Not nearly as much as a stainless steel surface, but you will want to use a little. As far as functionality, a few things impressed me. First, the pots and pans have a thick layer that extends past the bottoms and up the sides (even on the pots). Cheaper brands will not have this. Why is that important? Well, if you are cooking sauces you don't want the sides of your pots to get too warm and scold the sauce. I cooked a 3 hour tomato sauce in one of the pots and never had any scolding on the sides. Second, the pots and pans hold there look. Again time will tell, but I have used the saute pan 4 or 5 times, including a 10 minute sear over high heat and a 3 hour simmer and as you can see from the pictures of the bottom of the pan, you can't tell that it has been cooked with. Additionally, these pots clean up very easy. This is nice because it allows you to put in the dishwasher and even dried up food came off in one cycle. If you prefer to handwash, any cooked on food will come right off. Time will tell as far as how they hold the color, but for now the sage is a very distinct and impressive shade for cookware.
