  • Great machine. I love it!
The product itself is awesome. Makes great espresso. Steams milk easily. I wasn’t sure about how to use it but as I’ve played with it, I’ve learned pretty quickly. The pressure gauge is cool and helps you know the sweet spot for how to steam the milk & when it’s ready to brew your espresso. I definitely recommend this, even for beginners! Oh and great price! ... show more

  • Capable espresso machine
While I would never try to sell anyone on the idea that this is some kind of industrial grade, amazing piece of kit, I admit that for my use, it gets the job done quite nicely. It has now become part of my afternoon routine of either making a latte or having a nice double-shot of espresso. It looks a little serious at first glance, , but once you spend 10 or so minutes with it, it all makes sense. Brewing is straightforward and cleanup is easy. The default settings produce espresso that tastes balanced and consistent without any real fiddling. While it feels solid, it's not quite as heavy as I would have expected. That's not a bad thing; it's just that when you have an espresso maker in mind, it's usually thing weighty, industrial looking thing that looks like it might require a license to operate. It doesn’t have that flimsy, entry-level vibe, and the design actually adds something nice to the kitchen instead of looking like it's just an afterthought. The pressure gauge is genuinely useful, not just decorative, and helps you get a feel for when things are dialed in. The espresso itself has been decently good, with a nice crema and no harsh bitterness. Steaming milk is also easier than expected once you get the hang of the controls. It’s pretty far from silent, and it’s clearly built with a budget in mind, but I think that's part of the tradeoff. For the price, it delivers far more than I expected. It feels like a machine that’s trying to give you a real espresso experience without demanding some kind of hipster degree on coffee making. It's say for regular, every-day, consumer-grade use, it's a really great machine. ... show more

Absolutely love this coffee machine! It brews quickly and the flavor is consistently great. The espresso is rich and smooth and the milk froth comes out perfectly every time. It really elevates my daily coffee routine.

  • coffee
The coffee machine works great! It's very easy to operate according to the instructions, and I successfully extracted the coffee on my first try. Frothing the milk requires a bit of skill, but the texture is incredibly smooth after adding it to the coffee.

  • Functional, minimalist espresso machine, clearly engineered to a price point
This machine is perfectly functional, and with its mostly-metal construction seems more durable than some of the rock-bottom ones on the market. It's pretty easy to use, and offers a decent upper-entry-level machine at a reasonable value. It's got a built-in water reservoir that stores enough for several double-espressos, so no need to mess with refilling water after each brew. Unlike the really cheap machines that just boil the water and use the steam pressure for extraction, this one actually has a proper reciprocating pump to create the pressure. The heater is powerful and heats the water to brewing temperature quickly -- if you push the "steam" button to get things warming up, it will be ready to brew by the time you finish loading the coffee. Like most espresso machines, this one is a one-shot affair. It comes with two filter cups, sized to make either a single or double shot of espresso, and then you need to reload. Extraction is good, pulling most of the flavor and caffeine out of the beans without too much bitterness or acidity. The brew that comes out has a nice foamy head, and combines well with the frothed milk to make a cappuccino. The steam wand/milk frother works as well as most I've seen, although the controls are a little weird, requiring interaction with both the front-panel controls and the knob on the side. There's a large, mostly-flat area on top of the machine where you can set stuff while you're working, and it's made of something resembling stainless steel, so it's reasonably easy to clean. The area where you put the coffee cup, on the other hand, is definitely sized for an espresso-sized cup. You can jiggle a small regular mug in there, if you remove the metal drainage grate -- since they clearly weren't hellbent on miniaturizing this thing, they could have made that area big enough to fit a standard mug. It's not a perfect machine -- it's rather noisy, both the pump and the steam wand in action. Probably not a huge problem, since there's usually a noisy grinder involved somewhere in the process as well. And it's clearly engineered to a price point. It uses a sort of light-up touch screen for the front-panel controls, and those controls sort of overlap with the steam-wand control on the side in order to produce coffee, hot water or steam. The buttons aren't exactly intuitive, either. The espresso button is labeled "1/2 espresso." A quick press gets you one shot, holding it for 3 seconds yields a double shot. Want a hotter espresso? Press the "steam" button first to superheat the water, then when it stops blinking, press the espresso button. There's an "Americano" button, too, but it's not real clear what it does, other than it being mentioned as something you should push without coffee loaded in order to cycle some water to clean the machine. Perhaps a Chinese in-joke at the strength of American coffee? It comes with a tenacious, difficult-to-remove sticker on the steam wand admonishing the user to "dismantle and clean" it after each use, but neither the sticker nor the manual offer clear instructions on how to do this. Overall, if you're seeking respectable quality espresso on a budget, you won't regret this machine. And really, it will do most of the stuff that far costlier machines do, it'll just be a little clumsy and noisy about it. ... show more
