If you have chickens, you've probably been through this yourself. Your new layers sometimes need to be encouraged to get up in the laying boxes to lay their eggs. Putting decoy eggs into your laying boxes triggers something in them that makes them want to get up in there and sit on those eggs. Our ladies are just about to be of the age to start laying so we picked these up to help encourage them to see the laying boxes as a safe place to lay their eggs. Almost as soon as we put them in there the ladies came up into the coop and started checking them out. There instincts and biological clocks are starting to get them in the mode to look for places to lay and this just helps steer them in the right direction. These eggs are almost indistinguishable from real eggs. You can't even tell they're made of wood. They feel perfectly solid and are even about the same weight as a real egg. We've actually combined them with some brown ones too in the hopes that they'll get used to seeing either color there. Besides encouraging them to get up in the laying boxes, another thing using decoy eggs accomplishes is it keeps them from pecking at the eggs trying to break them. If they learn they can't do it with the fakes, they won't try it with the real eggs. Hopefully this will save you some cracked eggs. These eggs are perfect for the mission. The media could not be loaded. Finally put this thing together 3 weeks ago as my birds are now old enough to be out doors and this this coop rickety as hell. When you move the damn thing the sides start to separate the pans don't stay in their slides and the nest box dividers are a joke. This is absolutely not worth the money you pay. ... show more

I have a flock of almost layers and I wanted them to know where the eggs go when the time comes. This pack of eggs came with so many more than I originally thought! They are finished with a shiny finish, so you won’t mistake them for your real eggs when collecting in the coop. They’re also very hard, and I think if I was having an issue with an egg cracking hen these would be a great solution to curb that issue quickly! A few pecks to these would definitely discourage any further unwanted behaviors. These have been a great addition to my coop and I’m happy to report that I now have two hens laying beside these eggs! ... show more

Yes, definitely. They are wooden fake eggs, 8 to a pack, great value. Not sure how to best review these - they are wooden eggs. They are good quality, solid, proper right size, shape and weight. We've tried ceramic eggs before, which did the trick, but we have a few resident ravens that keep taking them! So, this 8 pack is a great value for us. I guess that would be the ultimate test of these wooden eggs - if they fool the ravens and they make off with them ;P Will they encourage my hens into laying more? That's up to them :) UPDATE: Well, that didn't take long! I set the full bag of 8 eggs on a bin just outside the coop intending on placing or storing them later in the day. Within the hour the ravens grabbed, and tore through the bag and took all 8 eggs! So, there ya go - raven approved! ... show more

A little glossier than the real eggs but it's by such a low amount that it's not picked up on the camera. If you aren't sure which one is the wooden egg... well then the product is a good product! btw it's the bottom right one in the first photo. paint job looks pretty decent, from a distance you can't tell and only up close do you see the wood grain. That's not a problem considering your chickens won't be able to tell. I wanted white because I have a bunch of different egg colors but only one of the chickens lay white so it's the egg that gets checked on the most when she lays, causing it to sometimes get broken. This should help a little in reducing that. You should replace your eggs every once and a while. I find wooden ones are only good for about a year as the humidity and wear and tear reduces the coating causing the wood to become exposed. This increases the chance of bacteria/etc getting in it. ... show more

Very bad quality. Not good instructions. Didn’t hold up to rain with some trim pieces coming off in the first rain. Would not recommend.
