  • Excellent sprayer
Style: Pesticide Sprayer
Received today, got it put together and loaded it with Glysophate and water, sprayed a half acer wildlife food plot in about 20 minutes. Sprayer worked great, no problems at all. Pump worked with no problems. Paid attention to detail in the instruction booklet, parts are easily bolted in the wrong hole. But it really worked great in spraying a large field. ... show more

  • A whole lot faster.
Style: Pesticide Sprayer
The sprayer was delivered with one of the top box flaps unsecured. Not a FedEx issue. It was never taped down. I'm like "Uh oh. How many parts fell out in transit. Should I just return and reorder?" It turns out, everything was so securely packaged, they could have just shrink wrapped it! Easy one person assembly for anyone who has ever turned a wrench. Make sure you are using the correct (15 gallon vs. 30 gallon) assembly instruction. Throughly vacuum then rinse out the interior of the tank. I found alot of plastic shaving and other detrirus that could be sucked up into the pump, inside. Be sure to go back and retighten everything. I found some mild leakage around the return valve after my first use. I read about concerns about the "plastic frame". The frame is high gage steel tubing with high quality mounting pieces. So those concerns aren't realistic. I suggest replacing the drainage cap with a 3/4" threaded ball valve if you want to avoid getting lawn chemicals all over your hands and shoes. There is no note of it being included but, it does come with the electrical wiring, battery clip, on/off switch. I was concerned about this. The 15 gallon sprayer was more than enough for my .7 acre lawn. Only used 10 gallons in my first application. Strongly recommend that you use a coloring dye to add to the tank so that you can avoid double spraying an area. What was normally a 4 hour job of hand spraying took only 40 minutes including mixing, hookup and cleaning. I mounted the hitch a little higher than normal so that the solution would always drain to the back of the tank, near the drain outlet, where the pumps inlet hose rests. Do your hilly areas first, when the tank is at its fullest. Pump inlet hose can come out of the solution when you have less than 5 gallons on hilly terrain. Very easy cleanup. Drained about 1 quart of unused chemicals. Saved for next use. Hose out the tank and exterior. Fill with 2 gallons of water and run sprayers and spray gun to clean out all chemicals. Only one use so far but very impressed. Expensive but seems to be worth it. ... show more

  • Much faster than spraying by hand.
Style: Pesticide Sprayer
Update after several uses Originally used with Troy Built mower, 3 times. Switched to larger Cub Cadet mower this spring. Used 5 times. Since changing mowers, the 7.5 amp fuse will blow every couple times I use it. Use it to spray lawn for mosquitoes, spray fruit trees, ... lots of uses. Have used the sprayer twice, so far it appears to work fine and is much quicker than a backpack sprayer which is what I used before. There isn't much coverage at the middle of the sprayer compared to the sides, but the design of 2 nozzles at each side is what most sprayers use. There is a leak between the pump and the hose, where all the parts are plastic, so I'll probably wrap the threads with tape and see if that helps, I just keep forgetting until I'm in the process of spraying. I have a 1 acre lawn and wish I would have bought the sprayer with the larger tank. If I had the larger tank i could finish with just 1 refill. Arrived in rough shape. Box was torn and parts were sticking out of box. No parts were missing though. Instructions for assembly were poor, there needs to be a part list with the parts shown in actual size and given a label. Instead of showing a diagram with 2 bolts holding the tank to the frame, clearly state 4 bolts and provide a the size of the bolt. ... show more

  • Nice quality and good value but too many problems.
Style: Pesticide Sprayer
Nice sprayer for the money, a good value. I compared every similar towed sprayer that I could find and this Chapin was the best value. Some of the features that set it apart; a metal spray wand very similar to a pressure washer, a high quality pump, a nice boom with good sprayers, inflatable tires and mostly metal frame. It sprays well and hopefully it will last quite awhile. So why only 1 star? Too many things wrong with it. 1) The instructions are really poor but it wasn't that hard to figure out how this sprayer was supposed to go together. 2) I also had to use some of my own hardware since some of the supplied bolts seemed inadequate (1/4" when should be 5/16"). 3) The boom is also not easily removed (for storing the sprayer) and reinstalled so I will revise how it mounts so it can be quickly removed. It does just snap in place but it takes an inordinate amount of force to install it and my worry was damaging the mounting bracket since the bracket is not sturdily mounted to the tank. 4) The Nozzles drip. I don't care what Chapin says, the nozzles and the nozzle nuts drip. I tightened the nozzle nuts reasonably tight, any more and I'm sure I would have stripped the threads but both nozzles are still dripping where the nozzles nuts are. I am going to try some garden hose washers and see if that solves the problem. None were supplied and none are shown on the instruction drawing. The nozzles also drip after shutting off the pump. I fixed the drip at the nozzle nuts by sanding the sealing surface so that the filter would seal. That fixed that problem but the nozzles themselves drip. They drip when spraying and drip when you shut the pump off. 5) The nozzles do not stay where pointed. There is not enough clamping force to prevent the nozzles from rotating on the boom, not only because of the clamp design but the smoothness of the boom. I am going to insert some non-slip rubber which should solve the problem. 6) There is no shutoff valve for the hand sprayer, which means even if you don't want it, the hand sprayer will get liquid in it which will require flushing it out. This wastes my time so I will find some type of shutoff valve since I will be mainly using the boom. 7) It won't pickup the liquid going downhill if running low on liquid. The pickup should have been in the middle of the tank with a sump and with the drain there. So if you have to do any downhill spraying, do it first. 8) The power cord is short and that means it is hanging in the air and easily bumped. I will lengthen the line, put a connector on my tractor and an on/off switch on the tractor's dash. I cannot believe it would cost that much to add another 2 feet of power cord. I highly recommend filling the tank with water the first time you use it to make sure the pressure is correct and the nozzles are aimed properly. Would I recommend this Chapin Towable Sprayer, only to someone who can deal with the issues I've noted. ... show more
