Top Amazon Reviews

  • Good power, some minor quality issues
Updated updated review: Again, placing the edit at the top of the review as it's the most pertinent. I ended up hearing back from Champion and their response was unexpectedly fantastic. They processed an order to provide the parts they could replace (the nut that broke loose inside the discharge port would only really be replaceable by sending a part that would require dismantling a large portion of the machine) as well as several spare maintenance parts. Apparently, they had an issue with their email system which caused my response to be lost in the shuffle. All in all, I'm satisfied and will happily bump my review up to reflect it. Yes, the initial experience was a bit disappointing but I feel like I can say that Champion redeemed themselves in the end. Thanks, Anthony! UPDATED REVIEW: I am placing the edit at the top of the review, as it is probably the most pertinent. This woodchipper was delivered to me on May 23rd, 2025. Over the course of the following 9 days, I used it on three separate occasions and have mixed reviews with the overall experience. First, the performance is fantastic. Using the chipper hopper, the machine will eagerly chew up branches that are less than 3" in diameter and produce beautiful wood chips for mulch in the process. The shredder hopper is a bit more finicky, but that's to be expected since it's meant to shred leaves, twigs, etc. Still, the shredder produces great compost material (or, in my case, yard fill for uneven spots on the back property line.) It's lightweight enough for one person to move easily and it starts up smoothly. Second, and this is where my rating takes a hit and gets dropped to one star from the original three stars (three, as I was waiting to see how their customer service handled things) I had given it: I emailed Champion directly on June 1st, 2025, after the drawstring broke on the collection bag (see my original review at the bottom, detailing the other reasons why I ended up emailing the company) and expressed my disappointment (sheared bolts, broken weld, and finally a broken drawstring - all in less than two weeks.) The following day, I received a response from the company. I replied immediately, providing the information they requested. I received a second response from them two days later, asking for confirmation of the parts that needed replacing. I clarified what needed replacing and what was unable to be replaced (the nut inside the discharge port that broke off). That was June 4th, 2025. As of today, July 6th, 2025, I have yet to hear or see anything else from Champion. While the woodchipper performs like, well... a champ and their initial customer service was fantastic, I can't say that I'm impressed with their follow through and will be exploring other companies for my other power equipment needs. ORIGINAL REVIEW: As of writing this review, I have had this woodchipper for just over a week. I have used it a total of three days - one of the days was without using the collection bag. First... out of the box it seems pretty solid. However, upon installing the hopper, two of the bolts holding the hopper to the engine sheared off - they were barely more than finger tight at that point. Second... when installing the discharge chute deflector one of the nuts welded inside of the deflector broke off. The two nuts welded inside the deflector hold the adjustment knobs in place, so those weren't much more than finger tight either. Third... After a little less than two dozen uses, the drawstring for the collection bag broke rendering the collection bag pretty much useless. I would have expected the string to break eventually, but not within the first two weeks of having the chipper. That said... If I can get the issues resolved, I'd say that it's a reasonably priced woodchipper that's easy to use. I will probably end up removing the rubber "guard" on the front of the chipper feed pipe because it's a little inconvenient. It does have a clean out port, but I think it could be designed a little better...perhaps a little larger and with the opening extended to the bottom of the chipper/shredder chamber to make it easier to clean out. It IS fast, though! The first branch I went to feed into the chipper feed pipe was almost ripped out of my hands by the chipper. It's easy to move around, even at 175lbs, though I have a bit of concern when it comes to the longevity of the wheels - they, and the "rims", are just hard plastic. It IS noisy, but it's a woodchipper. That's to be expected. Just throw on some headphones along with your safety goggles and gloves. I HAVE reached out to the manufacturer on their website about the issues I have run across - this review has nothing to do with the seller. Once I have a response from the manufacturer, I will update my review to reflect. ... show more

  • Great chipper, good shredder
The engine is powerful and starts easily. It's incredibly loud, like all chippers are. It works at least as well as the Bearcat that I owned years ago, and that's a big compliment. The chipper is fantastic and works better than the shredder, which easily clogs unless loaded sparingly. It weighs about 175 lbs. and has big wheels, is easy to move around. ... show more

  • Does a great job.
Once you figure out the best way to use it, it’s a beast. My advice is to use the smaller intake 99% of the time. The top chute does say it’s for smaller stuff, but the other intake just does a better job with everything you feed in. I clogged up the chipper twice trying to feed smaller sticks through the top. Stick to leaves only on the top, and everything else through the 3 inch side intake. ... show more

  • Shredding quality is substandard Chipping is excellent
Bought to replace my older Sears 8-HP chipper/shredder. Unit does a poor job of shredding materials (leaves, small sticks, stems etc.) fed into top chute section. I believe the issue is because there are no retainer bars at the discharge chute to hold back material while it is reduced/shredded to a smaller size. (The Sears unit has this as a standard function.) Most of the leaves that are put into the hopper simply blow right through with little to no shredding/size reduction. This is a problem for me as this material is added to my compost bin. Without size reduction it will be much harder for the compost organisms to "eat" it down to its final journey to becoming dirt. The chipper function works very well. The chip size is very small. However, the slotted rubber safety cover over the infeed chute is a real pain. It is near impossible to feed smaller limbs/twigs/branches through it without them breaking outside of the feed tube. Difficulty can also occur with larger branches that are covered or have some side branhing stubs on them. I will make final judgement on its shredding abilty this fall after the millions of oak and other leaves in my tree-filled yard drop and are collected for addition to the compost bin. More then ... May 2025 update: Still find that leaves are a problem especially if dry. In this condition most simply pass through without having been reduced in size. I found that if I pre-wet them a bit they tend to stay in the housing longer and do come out shredded somewhat. This is a real pain and makes the supposed shredding action subpar. Chipping is okay but I have found over several "loads" that smaller branches/twigs pass right through too. I then have to collect them from the bag (after dumping into a trash can) and re-run them through to achiev a smaller and desirable size that my previous machine with a retention/sieving screen simply did on the first pass. I'm thinking of selling this unit and buying one with a sizing screen such as the Echo. ... show more
