Correction of previous negative review

The chamfer plane is good. Main negative was there were no instructions or good pictures. The plane came with a bit installed upside down. I did not recognize that error and tried to use it but the bit couldn’t be retracted far enough into the housing to allow for precise thin planing. All it could do was deeply gouge. I looked at other nearly identical planes, different brands that had better pictures and discovered the problem. ... show more

Dull blades

Disappointing and poorly made

I had hopes for this corner plane, but I was skeptical due to the low price. The problem is the blades do not retract in into the plane far enough. When retracted as far as possible, the blades sit to "proud" of the plane body with makes it almost impossible to use without marring the surface of your workpiece. I suppose the threaded end could be ground down a bit to correct this problem, but that seems like a lot of work, and I'm not sure it would be worth the time. I did not attempt to use the tool for a while after I received it or I would likely have returned it. ... show more

Great little tool.

This is a beautiful little plane. I read the reviews and saw that there were a number of complaints about gouging and chipping due to the blade not retracting fully. What I discovered is the blade will not retract fully when it is installed UPSIDE DOWN. I think this would account for a lot of the complaints on both of these issues. To check, if the blade is installed upside down the graduation scale on the blade will not be visable. ... show more

This tool is close to being very useful except for the loose fitting of the cutting block. I use it for trimming corners of hand carved panels in cherry. At first glance it seemed the treads on the adjustment were too thick, and that was confirmed in trying on a cut off. Secondly, there is a bit of gap between the adjustment nut and the frame, adding to the problem. Simply stated , sloppy work in manufacturing! I could do much better with a bit of 45 degree wood and a right angle hand plane like my Lie-Nielson 95, sadly not available anymore. ... show more
