Top Amazon Reviews

  • I did a lot of research--here if why I picked this model!
I don't do a lot of reviews but I do a lot of analysis before buying and I thought I would pass along my thoughts on this mini chainsaw because there were a lot of very positive reasons why I selected this one as opposed to many of the others offered on Amazon. First though, the most important comments: 1. Eye Protection-Purchase a good pair of eye protection glasses, do not, under any circumstance depend on the glasses that come with the kit. Make sure you buy a pair that are listed by accredited safety organizations and include side protection over your temples. Make sure they fit, gives you clear and full vision and fits securely. You only one set of eyes, and chainsaws, by their very nature throw off a lot of debris, wood chips, bark fragments, dirt and oil, none of which you want anywhere near your precious eyes. 2. Hard Hat-If you are planning to cut overhead branches, invest in a hard hat, It's hard to gauge where a branch will fall and although it might look to be lightweight, some limbs with foliage can be heavy. Play it safe. 3. Gloves--The fabric gloves included will not give you any protection and in fact, the woven fabric can catch on saw teeth and so I would recommend getting a good pair of leather gloves. Make sure you can operated the trigger and safety wearing the gloves. As far as the saw itself, there were several reasons why I chose this one over the others. 1. I am left handed and I have a problem with the common design of having the motor housing off to the side. This was one of the few where the motor housing is off the back and I found that it improved visibility, maneuverabily and balance. I have had some run-ins with circular saws, again as a lefty the standard configuration places the entire saw weight over the waste piece and it is very awkward. 2. Oil Supply--This is a big one, chainsaws require a lot of oil to lubricate the bar and saw chain. There is a thin slot along the bar which the chain slides along and oil is absolutely necessary despite the fact that it just makes a big mess! There seems to be three basic oiling options. Many saws just require you to oil the chain as you work. Terrible idea. Some saws include a reservoir but require you to pump the oil reservoir periodically to dispense oil onto the moving blade, better, but you still are going to forget and burn up the saw. Finally, this one which automatically feeds oil from to reservoir down to the blade. There is a little weep hole under the bar where the oil oozes out and constantly lubes the blade. I know it works well because I was cutting over rocks and I could see the oil spray all over the rocks when I was done, a good sign that the oil was feeding properly. Make sure you find that little hole in the reservoir, it will be surrounded by and o-ring, and make sure it's clear and make sure the oil you add is clean. By the way, as they mention in the manual, drain out the oil when your are done or store it in a way that if it leaks out, no harm is done. Chainsaws are inherently messy. 3. Blade Guard--Here is where it gets tricky. I noticed that several "high end" mini chanisaws, think the red ones named after a city in Wisconsin. These saws are marketed to professionals and do not have the blade guard. I have been down this road before with complicated blade guard systems and I found them to be awkward and in many ways more obtrusive than beneficial, and this was definitely the case for me. I removed the guard. I am not suggesting you should do it but I found, again, in my opinion, that it improved visibility and gave my more freedom in locating , and viewing the cut in progress, as well as ocasionally cutting on the top side of the bar. The manual for that saw I referred to, is well written and contains a lot of good safety information so you might want to download it from the manufacturer's website and review it. I used the saw to cut down a mesquite, here in Arizona and those of you who know mesquite, know it's a pretty tough wood. The saw worked like a champ. The toolless adjustment was extraordinarily helpful since the chain loosened, and I suspect, with all the oil and bar heating, there may also have been some slippage so there were several times when I had to tighten and reset the chain but it never got to the point where the chain sliipped off the bar. Finally, it's really easy to clean up when done and you should aways do that. Drain the oil and remove the battery first then take the cover off the chain drive and brush out, or blow out with an air compressor all the junk that is going to accumulate there, again, watch out for that o-ring and be sure to reassemble and check carefully to make sure the chain is re-engage properly. All in all, it's great addition to the garden toolbox if you respect it and use it carefully. Remember you will always have one hand on the trigger so you really have to focus on where the OTHER hand is at all times. It cuts so easily you can take the advantage of making your cuts to avoid removing large, heavy sections in one piece, take your time and enjoy the fact that you have the chainsaw to do all the work! ... show more

  • PERFECT for pruning
I love my mini chainsaw! I like to do gardening work and sometimes there are limbs that need to be pruned that a pair of shears can't come close to cutting. I always had to wait for my husband to trim them with his chainsaw. I wondered if there was such a thing as a mini chainsaw and new that if they make it, Amazon will have it! Sure enough, I found mini chainsaws. I was thrilled. Bought one that you self oiled, and that was a big mistake. The bar and chain got so hot after a minute of cutting. Sent that one back and got this one..WAY better. This thing may be small, but it packs some power, and the battery power is outstanding. I had limbs pruned back in no time. As long as you keep it cleaned and oiled, this thing will last quite some time. Not returning this one, it is great! ... show more

  • Don’t waste your money!
I bought this in November for my wife to use and she used it to cut some saplings down. Worked pretty good, disconnected the battery and put it away. Fast forward to July, took it out, gave the batteries a full charge, and I was disappointed to find that they were dead and will no longer take a charge. Paper weight now. Spend the money to buy a quality name brand. ... show more

  • Time Saving Device!
Love this little machine. Quick and easy to operate out of the box if you have the lubricating oil handy. Makes quick work of up to 6" inch diameter limbs. Came in handy after a few severe storms did some tree damage around the house. High quality with redundant safety. Built to last and the battery life is pretty good for what you are asking of it.
