  • Amazing for the price
Great purchase. For having blue ray capability included this is a great price, and I have not seen any issues with it so far so I wouldn’t worry about it being refurbished. Highly recommend.

  • No wifi (streaming), no HDMI cable, no batteries in remote - YES! Just what I wanted.
This is a bare bones BluRay /DVD upconvert device. I bought it to put on a Roku TV, so I did not want wifi / streaming. Smart TV's with other streaming devices DRIVE ME NUTS! Everything clashes and you never really know which device is delivering the show. There were no instructions, but really, you have an HDMI socket and a power cord. Nothing else needed if you keep it simple. At first start=up, I put in a BluRay disc, and the lag time was horrible. I immediately cursed myself for buying renewed, and I was convinced it was going back. I couldn't get it to skip the previews, couldn't get the disc menu - i.e., "Play Movie", "Scenes", "Features". etc. I ran it thru it's paces - very patiently - and I can't explain this, but it seemed to improve reaction time after about 15 to 30 minutes. Magic? Lubrication got spread around the belts and gears as it warmed up? Who knows. but it seemed to work as intended. I'm going to keep using it for now, seeing if the lagging response kicks in every time I fire it up. Note: I bought this to replace a seldom used Philips machine that gave up the ghost after about 15 years and would not open and allow me to remove my DVD. I had to disassemble the thing to get my movie out. Now, I need to revisit my Sony BluRay attached to my LG Smart AI TV, see if can turn off the wifi, and actually use the BluRay player. AAARRRGGGHhhhhh. ... show more

  • I love Philips products
I have always loved Philips and we've had a lot of them over the years. The first TV I remember is a light green with yellow on/off button 12 inch Phillips TV. It was as beautiful as it was small and lasted many years. Then we switched to another bigger Phillips TV and loved it for a long time. We also had a small fan/heater from Philips that was as accurate and effective as a Dyson heater is today. I had a Samsung blu-ray player that was malfunctioning. I love Samsung products but I hated that blu-ray from day one. Recently the blu-ray stopped releasing discs so I came on Amazon (where else would I go if not my dear Amazon?) and ordered this one. Very easy to use. All I had to do was plug the cable to the wall and an HDMI cable to the TV and blue-ray. Done. Image and sound are very good and most of all, ...you got a PHILIPS!! ... show more

  • Total, Utter Garbage. Literally nothing works.
I picked this DVD/Blu Ray "player" because I wanted one without Wifi integration. I already have streaming capabilities elsewhere and I don't need those extras features. At first glance, this seemed like an easy solution and one of the few that could do it. Never have I ever been more wrong in my life. The DVD drive does not open automatically, regardless of whether you use the remote or the button on the player itself. You have to force it open with a paperclip. If you actually put a DVD in and close it, you get this funny message that there's no disk in despite the disk that's very obviously in (see picture after I unscrewed the unit to see what was going on). I probably should have attempted a Blu Ray to see if it was any different (I have way more DVDs than Blu Ray currently), but I was so frustrated at this point that I moved directly to testing a flashdrive. Have you ever seen a USB port that couldn't play Mp4? Neither had I. Until now. But you can play pictures! Yippee! Now let's take a moment to acknowledge the remote, which maybe should be entered into the Guiness World Records under "useless artifacts." 27 buttons, 2 inches by 1 inch if that. Buttons are far too small and close together to be easy to operate. Takes a lot of concentration and even then you don't always click the right thing. Not that it matters of course. Remote is not responsive unless you want to turn the thing off. By now you probably do (haha!) I probably should have realized the company isn't a quality company worth investing your money in when I read the reviews that point out that Philips can't even be bothered to include an HDMI cable. Sure, I had my own, but your product is kind of incomplete without it. No batteries is one thing. No cables? That's flat out dumb. Now, I want to be fair and call out the one good thing this company has done: giving me the option to return it for free. (Wait a minute, I think that was Amazon's doing. Nevermind! In the words of Michael Scott from The Office, "Boom! Roasted") ... show more

  • Excellent Value for a Blu Ray that also adapts to Regular dvd Discs@
This is an excellent value; crisp and sharp images plus the Dolby. Easy installation because it takes a standard html cord to connect to your smart tv. However for this discount it comes without a connector cord or batteries for your remote, so no biggie. It automatically adapts and plays standard dvds. It has an interesting extra--- when the evening hours are upon you --the Dolby mutes itself so your neighbors don't have to know it's the Titanic that's sinking...! ... show more
