  • Fire Stick is like Alexa/FireHd and ROKU merged. Easy upgrade.
Fire Stick 4K Max is the boss. ROKU is toast. The reviews miss the mark. The speed is amazing. Closed captions can be resized so you can see more screen. Alexa built in allows ability to check time and weather while asking to switch between ESPN and AMZN video with voice commands. All happens instantly. Only negative was upgrading firmware at beginning. Failed first attempts. But get past first 15 minutes of software updates and your king of the couch! Got the refurbished unit for $10 discount. I should have traded in ROKU for another $8 discount. No brainer. The remote is fine. Edit: Nov20th. Holy crap. Fire stick EXT also has the ability to synch Bluetooth speakers. My 12 year old Sony TV just became a new TV. Better picture than ROKU and Bluetooth speakers. No more errors for Thursday Night Football. Update: Nov 26,2022. Just realized I can ask Alexa to show my blink and ring doorbell cameras on TV by just asking with voice. Update: Nov 27th. The rewind button works for all Football games. Start at the beginning or simply rewind at live screen. That’s very cool. ... show more

  • The best thing to (mostly) free TV
What's not to love? (When the Pluto app on it (or any other app) gets hung-up, just go to or say 'Settings', then 'My FireTV' and restart the thing. It's so easy. When it says 'No Signal' when it idled too long, just push the middle in the big circle button first before trying anything else, it will come on right away. These things described above happen rarely and have nothing to do with the fire stick itself. We love this thing and have 4 of them. We will get the lit-up remote controls next. We use X-finity internet. ... show more

  • Great device, but no real off switch, and limited support for changing screen ratios
I think my Fire Stick is great for the most part. It does what it says on the tin, and then some. It doesn't matter if you want to use some streaming app, or if you want to stream your own stuff using Kodi or Plex - this device does it all. I used mine as a means to turn an ultrawide gaming monitor with built-in speakers into almost a smart TV that I can watch stuff on when I'm not using it for my computer. There are, however, some issues: * Certain apps have to be sideloaded, even if they might be available for other devices in the google play store. * The device will not ever shut down all the way. This means that it won't let my monitor go to sleep or automatically switch input, if the Fire Stick is connected directly to the monitor (I solved this with an HDMI switch with a power off function). * The device has no regular USB A port, even though it supports external storage. To connect a USB drive to the Fire stick, you will need an adapter cable. * Storage space is limited, and if you want to install a lot of stuff on it at once, you will need to connect external storage. * Prepare for ads, and more ads. There used to be a way of installing a better UI, and not have to deal with ads on the home screen and whatnot. Not so, anymore. * The support for different screen ratios and resolutions are limited. It's basically 4:3 or 16:9, with a couple resolutions for each. Be prepared for a stretched image if using an ultrawide screen. You can force other ratios using adb, but the picture becomes almost unwatchable, with artifacts all over the place, if you try an ultrawide resolution. * Casting seems a bit hit and miss, and it's occasionally hard to get it to work with certain apps. * Unless you connect an audio device to the Fire Stick via bluetooth, you have no way of lowering the volume. It goes full tilt at whatever your TV or screen is set to. The only software controlled volume I've found was when casting youtube from my phone, specifically. The remote control that comes with the Fire Stick does have volume buttons, but it turns out that those are for controlling a TV via IR, only. My refurbished Fire Stick arrived still covered in the original plastic and scratch-free. The remote control was clean and seemed brand new. Overall, I'd say that there doesn't seem to be any drawbacks to going with a refurb. My early impressions of the Fire Stick thus far can be summed up to say that it's certainly good value, despite the issues described above. ... show more

  • Finally, enough storage, for now
The item is great! Much more storage and faster, without the lag of the older Firestick. Maybe Amazon should consider making their storage hogging apps on their Firesticks offloadble as well. Useless Amazon apps on these things are, well, useless and take up precious storage space. It is aggravating. ... show more

  • Like new fire tv stick
After usinga few times, something has happened to the volume button. When you push the button, it kicks you out and acts like your pushing the input button.
