We adopted an inside/outside cat from a neighbor and worried if we were not home and he needed shelter a cat door for the garage was needed. I did a bit of research and for the money this cat door so far is working out great (have not experienced a winter or snow yet). Our cat is quite smart and after being a bit hesitant now goes in and out at his leisure. He’s not a big cat (about 9 lbs) and easily can push the hinged door with his head to get in and out. He prefers being out so I now have peace of mind if its late and he’s out after we go to bed he always has a secondary way to get shelter, food, and to his cat bed. As far as installation, my husband is very handy so made the hole in the garage wall between the beams, saved the plywood in case we want to close up the hole as we also have extra siding it wouldn’t be an issue. The cats love the freedom to visit everyone's bedroom, we love having them, and we get some privacy too. I installed in hollow core doors. You'll need a bit of wood to wedge in for the upper screws. I used some bits of scrap pine with the provided screws and it came out fine. The trick is to only barely tighten the screw in. Stop as soon as it stops and the wood is less likely to split, and it will hold fine. Also hollow core doors have a solid part at the bottom. Avoid cutting into this. I made it so the lip of my cat door sits right on this support. Again, do not overtighten. It's a fibrous material that can't take any torque at all but will hold the cat door when tightened genty. ... show more

    • The lock is on the outside of the door.

The door works great and installation was not bad. It is a little strange that the lock is on the side of the door that faces out. If you install the lock on the inside, the door sill would be exposed to the elements and allow water to drain inside. I opened the box, checked to see if it would fit, then packaged it up to return back. No returns! DONT BUY! Amazon is all about being able to return! Edited: After they saw the previous review, I got a random email saying they are refunding my money. I ended up using a different CEESC door that actually fit. The door I went with was deeper. This one replaced the first one which lasted about a year before the plastic door was snapped in half. It must be secured with screws, and does the job as a light duty small-pets door. BYOS to attach the two halves of the door because the included screws are too short.

This pet door works exactly as advertised. We got it for our cat, who likes to spend all day in our screened-in patio (catio?). The patio is accessed via a sliding glass door, so I did not install this product in a door or through a wall. Instead, I built a tall rectangular panel, about 10 inches wide by 6 feet tall, out of 1-inch thick rigid foam insulation, and mounted the pet door near the bottom of that panel. I attached a handle about half way up the panel to make it easy to remove, so now we just open the sliding glass door about a foot, insert this panel into the opening, and gently slide the door against the rigid foam panel to hold it in place. The 1-inch thickness of the rigid foam insulation is too thin to hold the pet door in place, so I adhered some foam-core poster board to either side of the rigid foam panel, covering the bottom 12 inches or so, before installing the pet door.
