I wanted an inexpensive OBD II scanner that could be left in my truck for use without having to go home and drag out my regular scanner. I wanted a self contained tool instead of one that requires my fouling up my phone. As a retired auto electrical tech, I am always being asked about someone's "check engine" (MIL) light and why it is on. So, in order to help friends out, I really needed one of these in the truck. Now, being an auto electrical specialist, I do know what is expected as well as needed (and I stress "needed") for a quick check of a system. This device does not do everything that some of the more expensive tools do. This does not have bi-directional capabilities or live stream graphing or even BCM, TCM, ABS or Supplemental restraint systems (air bags). But for a general check engine light or to tell if the vehicle has passed all of the monitors needed for smog checking this tool has all that is needed. Comes in a nice box that is sturdy enough to store the tool in, has a very weak instruction manual and that is just about it... The coverage is questionable when it comes to Asian vehicle as it starts at 2008???I have one of their OBD II testers that you use your phone with and it, too, starts Asian at 2008. The build quality? Well, I wish that I could call it good but, to be honest, it has a very cheap feel to it. But it works and that is what matters. So, why 5 stars? Well, remember, this is a very budget friendly device (and I mean VERY budget friendly) that does all that the general public needs to do. Anyone that is more versed at OBD systems would have a much better, and more expensive, tool. Even with the few down sides to this tool, I do like it and it will do exactly what I want it to do.

Get this scan tool! Among other things, you can use it to check emissions readiness on a car you are considering for purchase, to verify no codes have been recently cleared - and so have not yet triggered the check engine light. For this purpose alone, this tool is well worth the money and could save you hundreds of dollars. But this does much more. Real time monitoring of sensors, diagnostic tests (when supported by the car), and retrieval of DTCs - diagnostic trouble codes, are just a few more features. This tool could easily pay for itself when your check engine light goes on and you want to know what the specific error is. You will be better prepared with some basic information when taking your car in for service. Not needing your phone to connect to a wireless dongle is a big plus. Phone apps are way more feature rich in conjunction with wireless dongles. But this tool gives you most of what you need for many tasks and is super simple - plug and go. Highly recommended!

This is a fairly capable little code reader. For the price I don't know that you could do much better. The interface is a little clunky mainly because you only have 4 buttons to interact with (up, down, OK, and return) and it uses these 4 buttons to cover every function available. Look at the pic and you'll see a red box over 4 items that look like 4 buttons or maybe 4 lights but they do nothing besides act as cheesy decoys to sell you the item as having extra features. MUCAR just didn't have to do that as their code reader works well without the extra hype. The ad copy also shows that graphing is available but that only exists in the ad pictures. Powering up is not instant but it's reasonable as the device goes through all of the protocols that need to be applied to your vehicle. It does recognize the VIN when queried. It reads any OBD codes quickly and erases them fast also. I/M readiness is presented quickly and covers the data to check for emissions readiness. Fueling (rich/lean, long term/ short term) is done well and easy to decipher. There are standalone tests for O2 sensors and EVAP functions too. Graphs are usually helpful for analyzing O2 sensor switching but there is no graph function available for anything. There is a 'HELP' section where you can enter an OBD code and the reader will give you a generic definition of the code. This isn't a bad little code reader at all. It's pretty small (the screen is only about 1.7") and doesn't take up any room. It's a good reader to put in your car and leave it in case you need it one day. It's pretty helpful and is a good value tool. If graphing was available this would easily be one of my favorite code readers but it's still pretty good as it is.

I had emissions coming up and i knew I was going to fail it because I had a O2 sensor throwing up a error. Got this instead of bugging a friend to do it for me. Took all of thirty minutes from reading the manual and paring it with my phone to get the code cleared. There is a bunch of settings in this that I'm sure I don't need to touch but they might come in handy for someone.

It's cheap junk. I testes this out on a 2021 AT4 that came in with a check engine light. Code turned out to be manufacture specific and the scanner said so, but didn't display what the come was. Most scanners will display the code and not the description. This didn't even do that. It could clear the code though. (I knew what the code was. Vehicle was in reduced engine power with code set.)

Very intuitive interface lets you access the features you want on this device. I was able to use it to diagnose a check engine light on my dash. It said I had a small leak. I knew immediately what it was as it is a recurring problem with my vehicle. I got a new gas cap and after driving around a bit the light was gone! Hoping it was something easy, and not something serious, and thankfully it was.

This OBD2 scanner was super simple to use and worked well to check the diagnostic codes on a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500. It was pretty self explanatory even for a non professional. Found out I need an O2 sensor. This little device is lightweight and has a nice easy to read display that's the perfect size and it seemed to have a number of handy features although I only tested reading the codes from the vehicle. For the cost, it was definitely worth it. Most of the OBD2 scanners I've seen are much more expensive, but this does the job for a fraction of the cost. Overall I'd recommend it to anyone.
