Description

An all-new dark standalone romance from the USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Shantel Tessier. Carnage is based in the Lords' world and can be read as a standalone. A PUPPET The men in the secret society known as the Lords think they rule the world. And in a way, they do. Each has sold their soul to the devil at a young age in exchange for power and wealth. Like anything else, they have different levels of success. The more they’re willing to serve, the more power they have. Among them are the Spade brothers, who run Carnage. It’s where the Lords who have not held up their oath go to live out the rest of their lives in shackles. Tucked away from the world as if they never existed. I VOW. YOU VOW. WE VOW. I once belonged to a Lord—Saint Beckham Carter. Although nothing was holy about him, I still kneeled as if he could grant me eternity in a world where only evil existed. At the time, I willingly vowed to be his and allowed him to share me with his “brothers.” But things changed. And what I thought couldn’t get any better got exceptionally worse. So I did the only thing I could and ran from him, knowing I could never return. Now he’s found me and dragged me back to his hell, where he will make me his pet. The world already thinks I’m dead, so no one will miss me. And I’m just another name on a long list of those who will never know freedom. What he doesn’t know is why I ran from him in the first place. A Lord doesn’t listen to reason, so it’s not like he’d care anyway. Saint was born a Lord, and he will die as one. If life has taught me anything, it’s that we all pay for our sins. And Saint will never let me forget that my place is at Carnage, serving him on my knees until death is granted. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Brutal, Emotional, and Addictively Dark – The Spade Brothers Finally Take Center Stage
Carnage was one of my most anticipated reads in Shantel Tessier’s Lords universe, and it absolutely delivered. After meeting the Spade Brothers briefly in The Sinner and The Sacrifice, I couldn’t wait to see what kind of chaos, loyalty, and darkness surrounded them and this book gives us all of that and more. It’s easily one of the most emotionally intense stories in the entire series. What I loved most is how Carnage is structured into two distinct parts: before and after Saint officially becomes a Spade Brother. That shift between Part One and Part Two changes everything. The difference in Saint’s character across those sections is striking. Before he’s a mix of rebellion and chaos, and after, he’s colder, more calculated, and haunted by everything he’s lost and everything he’s become. Watching that transformation play out makes the story feel deeper and more layered than I expected from a dark romance. Ashton’s story, though, is the emotional heartbeat of this book. It’s heavy, it’s heartbreaking, and it’s not for the faint of heart. Please check your trigger warnings before diving in. Ashton’s journey involves sexual assault, both off-page and on-page. The first assault is revealed when she discovers she’s pregnant, while the second happens later in the story and is deeply painful to read. Tessier handles it with care, but it’s raw and brutal, making Ashton’s strength and resilience all the more powerful. Saint and Ashton’s relationship is born out of chaos and pain, but what develops between them is something fierce, consuming, and complex. Saint’s anger when Ashton runs from him is palpable, you can feel his fury jump off the page. But that rage isn’t just about control or pride; it’s rooted in his obsession, his need for power, and his desperate instinct to protect her from the same darkness he’s part of. Ashton, on the other hand, runs not out of defiance, but survival. With the help of another Spade Brother, she escapes to protect herself and the baby growing inside her. Her choices are impossible, yet understandable, and that moral grayness makes her one of the most human characters in the series. Adding to the emotional weight is the fact that Ashton is the sister of a missing Spade Brother. A thread that ties back to the mystery surrounding the deaths of Saint’s father and the previous generation of Spade Brothers. It adds a whole extra layer of intrigue and danger to an already explosive story. Like every Shantel Tessier novel, Carnage doesn’t hold back on the smut. It’s scorching, possessive, and filled with that signature power-play dynamic. But what really stood out to me this time was how the heat was matched by genuine storytelling. The tension, the violence, the lust, all of it is woven into a plot that’s as gripping as it is emotional. By the time I reached the end, I was breathless. Carnage is darker, heavier, and more brutal than the books before it, but it’s also more personal. Saint and Ashton’s journey is messy and painful, yet it’s filled with moments of redemption and trust that hit harder than I expected. If you’ve been following the Lords and thought you’d seen it all, trust me, Carnage takes things to a whole new level. It’s not just about darkness for shock value; it’s about what happens when two broken souls collide and somehow find a way to keep surviving. Shantel Tessier continues to prove why she reigns as one of the best in dark romance. This book isn’t just hot, it’s haunting, emotional, and completely unforgettable. ... show more

Ashtyn and Saint’s story!!!!
Format: Kindle
Saint was ruthless, possessive, and completely obsessed with Ashtyn. Their relationship was filled with anger, betrayal, punishment, and desire, but underneath it all, they shared a powerful connection that neither of them could escape. I liked that this book took us deeper into the dark world of Carnage and the Spade brothers. There were so many secrets and shocking betrayals that I never knew who could be trusted. Ashtyn went through an unbelievable amount of pain, but she continued to fight and proved how strong she was. This was definitely one of the darker books in the series, so check the trigger warnings first. Overall, it was a good, suspenseful dark romance that kept me interested until the end. ... show more

Devoured this!!! Carnage did NOT disappoint!
Format: Paperback
First off, this book was like crack for me. I was over the moon when I found out I had gotten an early copy. I couldn't get over how glued to it I was and how quickly I finished it. I devoured. And honestly, I loved it. But man, am I feeling the hangover! Thinking about moving on to another book feels like contemplating cheating on my nonexistant significant other. It makes me feel vulnerable and exposed emotionally, like I don't know how to act or feel. And I don't know if I like that or not, but CHEERS! The way she pulled all of the other books' characters into this one while still giving us a new story really just felt both incredibly nostalgic while also exciting to get new pieces of an already started puzzle. This was an intense and WILD ride...truly a ROLLERCOASTER of emotions were experienced while reading this and I loved every second of it. Absolutely loved Saint's possessive/obsessiveness with Ashtyn...it's what I live for in these types of books. And her addiction to him in equal measure is the toxic perfection I needed. It was giving Sin/Ellie and I went feral for them. Ashtyn on her own I didn't really care too much about as a character...she just didn't give me much to latch onto. But she served her "damsel" role well. She got put through some STUFF in this book, good night! Out of the other two Spade brothers, Haidyn and Kashton, I definitely found myself favoring Haidyn more for sure. I really hope his book is next, because he sure does have some 'splainin' to do! And speaking of explanations...I still have several questions that I really hope are gonna get answered in the next book! She's got me out here combing through all the books for hair/eye color combos trying to figure out who unnamed people are and I'm feeling a little unhinged... The twists and turns in this one just kept me constantly in a state of "WTF mate?!". Kinda cracked me up that it felt like Saint was legit out of the loop the majority of the time and had no idea what was going on right under his nose. Poor guy. Still love him though. The ending was wiiiild and my jaw was on the floor when my mind starting finally wrapping around what I was reading and the pieces were starting to come together. I thought the pacing was done well. I honestly didn't feel a lull in the timing of things at all. And I thought the placement of spice points was appropriate and just the right amount. Things were hot and dark though, so please mind those triggers and don't even attempt to read this if you haven't liked the other books in this world. This book had just the right amount of balance, in my opinion. But I will say, I kinda wish she had just made this into a why-choose, but I guess I can see why she didn't considering the premise of the world and all. Definitely looking forward to seeing where she takes things in the other two brothers' books. The connections made to her Dark Kingdom world in this one now has me racing to go wolf those down. Something tells me there's another book coming in that series soon too... 1000000% recommend this with my whole entire chest. And while technically it is a standalone...you're kinda doing yourself a disservice by not reading the others in the series prior to this. The build-up they provide is just *chef's kiss* and makes the anticipation of the next one that much sweeter. Enjoy and happy reading! ... show more

4.5 stars!!
Format: Kindle
The whole Spade Brothers/Carnage world was dark, brutal, and it was absolutely unhinged in the way I’ve come to expect from the this series. The only reason this wasn’t a full 5 stars for me was Ashtyn. I didn’t hate her, I just never really cared for her that much or connected with her the way I wanted to. There were definitely moments where she frustrated me, and that kept me from being completely obsessed with their relationship. Still, the drama, twists, spice, and absolute insanity of this book made it such a good read. Saint definitely carried this one for me. ... show more

No black chapter pages
I’m giving this a three star review because I was very excited to read this series, but I noticed that this book does not have the black chapter pages which I was looking forward too. The rest of the books that I have that are part of series have black pages in them. I did ask for a replacement but they send the same copy. Me being a book collector that likes matching her books, this sort bothered me. So if this doesn’t bother you please ignore my review and buy the book to support the author. It’s a really good book. ... show more

Dark Teddy Hamilton is so, so yummy!
Format: Audiobook
The Lords series by Shantel Tessier (The Ritual, The Sinner, The Sacrifice, Sabotage, Carnage, and Madness) is a relentless descent into the shadows of power, privilege, and psychological torment at Barrington University. At the heart of the series is the Lords, a secret society that operates with a chilling code: loyalty is absolute, and betrayal is punishable by death. Initiation rites are brutal, often requiring acts of violence or even murder as a blood oath for entry. These rituals are not only tests of strength and devotion, but also serve as psychological crucibles, stripping away innocence and binding members to a life of secrecy and moral compromise. The darkness of the series is most apparent in its unflinching exploration of abuse and manipulation. Tessier does not shy away from depicting graphic violence, sexual coercion, and the psychological games that define the Lords’ world. Characters are frequently forced into situations where their agency is stripped away, and survival depends on their ability to navigate a web of lies, blackmail, and shifting alliances. Relationships in the Lords series are fraught with toxicity and blurred boundaries. The books explore forbidden desires, possessive love, and the fine line between devotion and obsession. While some characters are portrayed as morally grey, acting out of love or past trauma, others are depicted as irredeemably toxic, pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable even within the dark romance genre. The psychological toll on both characters and readers is significant. The series is replete with trigger warnings for graphic violence, sexual content, and themes of non-consent, bondage, and even rape. Many readers have noted the need to pause due to the overwhelming intensity and degrading scenarios depicted, particularly in the earlier books. Tessier’s writing does not merely titillate; it confronts and unsettles, forcing readers to grapple with the darkness at the core of her characters and their world. Despite, or perhaps because of-its darkness, the Lords series is undeniably compelling. Tessier balances the brutality with moments of humanity, making readers root for characters who are deeply flawed, sometimes even monstrous. The series is filled with plot twists, betrayals, and high-stakes confrontations, ensuring that the tension never lets up. Even as the characters are dragged through hell, there are glimmers of loyalty, sacrifice, and love that provide a measure of hope amidst the depravity. The Lords series is not for the faint of heart. It is a journey through the darkest corridors of privilege, power, and desire, where every victory comes at a steep price, and redemption is always uncertain. Tessier’s ability to weave together violence, psychological complexity, and raw emotion sets this series apart as a standout in the dark romance genre; one that will haunt readers long after the final page. ... show more

Welcome to the Spade Brothers
Format: Kindle
This book by Shantel Tessier was a lot harder to get through in the LORDS series due to plot and storyline progression. This is the first book of the Spade brothers beginning with Saint and his love Ashtyn. Both their parents were Spade brothers. Ashtyn’s father knew she needed to marry a spade brother’s male heir. Ashtyn always wanted Saint. She was always flirting g and trying to get his attention as her brother Adam was also best friends with him, Haidyn, and Kashton. All four of them were to take over for their fathers. One night prior to the vow ceremony Ashtyn thought she had sex with Saint and was worried about not bleeding at the ritual but Saint had already known she was raped by someone else and he found a solution to fix that. Saint was also obsessed with Ashtyn and she was his chosen. As a chosen you are to serve your lord and no matter what they ask you do it. Ashtyn was willingly shared with all Saints brothers and loved to be degraded by them all. It was her kink. When her brother went missing the three others took Ashtyn and protected her. One too much and a betrayal to the brothers. This is where the story begins. I will not spoil it. Just know that things happen and the Spade brothers don’t let anything go. The reason for my negative feedback is the middle of the storyline is very repetitive and I felt the story could have been cut down on the repetitive payback sooner and continue the story forward. Once that happens the book could not be put down. So the first third of the was great. The last third of the book was great. It’s the middle that I struggled with and found boring. You should definitely read. Saint ♠️
Format: Kindle
Dark, Intense, and Unforgettable Saint and Ashtyn’s story in Carnage tore me apart and put me back together in ways I didn’t even know I needed. This is not a gentle romance it’s explosive, unpredictable, and charged with a danger that pulses through every scene. Saint is magnetically dark, relentless in his pursuit, and utterly captivating. Ashtyn is fierce yet fragile, brave yet haunted and the way she battles her own shadows while trying to survive his is masterfully written. Although she does annoy me and I can’t stand her at times she’s part of the story. Their connection is volcanic fiery, volatile, and impossible to look away from. Shantel doesn’t hold back on the angst, the tension, or the sacrifices these two are forced to make. Every twist left my heart pounding and my emotions in turmoil. But through all the chaos, there’s an undeniable undercurrent of loyalty and longing that keeps you rooting for them even when everything seems hopeless. You’ll also wanna punch Ashtyn in the face several times. 🤭😂 Heart-wrenching, passionate, and unforgettable. Saint and Ashtyn’s journey is the kind of story that stays with you long after the final page. If you crave intensity and raw emotion wrapped in a gripping, dark romance, this one is a must-read. ... show more
