  • Drinking whiskey would always be an addiction
I finished this book for the first time in February 6th, 2021. I was left stunned and utterly speechless. I got introduced to this author with one of her romcoms and I've enjoyed so !any of her books since. BUT this story, this love, it squeezed my heart until I couldn't breathe. I recently ordered the special edition cover from the HLB and when this anniversary edition popped up last night, I dropped the other two books I was reading and held on to Jamie tight. The novella "Love, Whiskey" was everything I needed to feel complete. To see the beauty and hope in Jamie's heart. To relive those heartbreaking moments from his eyes. There are not many loved stories I've read where I KNOW these characters, I root for them, cry with them and truly love them. Jamie and B, thank you for demanding Kandi out your story on 'paper' I'm a better reader for loving you both! ... show more

  • A Five Star angsty read and tribute to Whiskey!
It was 5 years ago that I read ALLTW! It was also the very first book I read by Kandi Steiner. I remember, it was the title that pulled me in. I’ve read hundreds and hundreds of books. So many romance books have the same plot that sometimes the characters are forgettable. Five years later, the story of B and Jamie is unforgettable! These two have the angst that can top any romance. A great author writes characters that years later….you still remember the power of their connection and their love story! Reading Jamie’s version of the story is like reading two completely different books, not a lot of authors can do this. Reading his version was like sucking you back into their turmoil all over again! Even though you know they end up together, you still go through all the feels with them. Thank you Kandi Steiner for writing the original book and bringing some additional commonality to your readers! ... show more

  • I waited 5 years for this…
I read this story 5 years ago and thought of it always but could never pick it up to read again. I wasn’t strong enough to enter their world again. Today, that all changed. I was thrust back into their love story and my heart is fully healed. I loved getting Jamie’s side of the story and getting the epilogue we all wanted. Absolutely, loved it! ... show more

  • Too much unnecessary heartbreak
I'm not quite sure how I feel about this one. On one hand, it's a pretty addicting read. A train wreck I couldn't turn away from. On the other hand, it felt like too much unnecessary heartache. I love ansgty and second chance (some of my all-time favorites are these kinds of stories). However, this one was different. I completely understand the whole "Time is not on our side," especially when they meet young. There's the growing up, finding themselves, chasing their goals before settling down. I get that. Also, there's times when "life" happens, and the detour comes. With these characters, some of the reasons they couldn't work at certain times were weak, in my opinion. The reasons they went years apart with no contact, lame. The heroine was stubborn and stupid. But, her character was developed well enough that I understood why the hero loved her. The hero was pretty wonderful, but he also pissed me off with some of the choices he made. But I guess I've already covered how I feel some of the drama was a bit of a joke. It wasn't real enough or strong enough to keep these two away that "supposedly" love each other to an infinite level. These two who have an unavoidable connection So, I did believe they were meant to be. I believed they were in love. I didn't believe the constant hurt they caused each other was needed. This book was way too long and only serves the purpose of causing the characters more pain and suffering than needed. ... show more

  • Beautiful torment
I first read this book in 2016, it was then that I discovered Kandi and fell in love with her words. This book jumped to my top 3 faves list and has remained there all these years later. A Love Letter To Whiskey stole my heart so many years ago, opening this book now is like reconnecting with an old friend. The angst is real and addicting. It will leave you craving more almost demanding to know more ,to feel more. Once you read it you will not forget it. It is beautiful ,torturous and in a way leaves a lingering feeling of heartache when the story is over. This is a must read for those like me who love angsty and all consuming love stories. ... show more

  • Angsty and joyless
All conflict no joy, no companionship, or self awareness. Internalized trauma and misogyny. No depth of character, they aren't likeable.

  • New version comparison
I read the first version of this a while ago. I had it on my TBR and kept holding off because it was only in the female's POV. I finally heard enough recommendations for it that I tried it. I was gobsmacked! It hit me so hard. I rarely cry during books, but that one got to me. I did cry. It was beyond 5 stars for me. So when I found out that a new version was coming out and it had the male's POV, it was time for a reread with added content. Now don't get me wrong, this book (this story) is still a five star for me. And having Jamie's POV made up for anything I lost in the second read. However, I feel I need to say I saw B and Jamie through different eyes this time. Where it was heart shattering the first time, it was just heart ache the second. I saw the mistakes they made more and felt them a touch less. I didn't cry like the first time, but my heart still twisted. Then I got to Jamie's part and it was like feeling the first time again. His story made up for my tolerance level in B's side. It brought it back from a five to beyond five star again. ... show more
