RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ SPICE: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 This was perfection. There really isn’t any other way to adequately describe just how great the writing, how sweet the story, and how hot the spice. This book filled me with so many feelings, I legitimately squealed out loud and thought my heart was going to spontaneously combust. Melanie Harlow is a small town romance goddess! I’ve read several of her books, and she knows how to give the readers something that‘s inherently comforting but still always surprising. And I think this one might just be my favorite! Kelly Jo Sullivan just wants a break from her country stardom life as Pixie Heart for a couple weeks, so she rents a secluded cabin in the woods. Unfortunately for Kelly, everyone wants a piece of her, and so her brother hires a body guard to protect her, one she won’t be able to shake. Xander is a former navy seal and a man of honor, so when a buddy who saved his life asks for a favor, Xander says yes. Too bad the last thing Kelly wants on her vacation is company. If I tried to name all the parts about this book that I loved, I would basically have to highlight from cover to cover. The push and pull between Kelly and Xander is some of my favorite banter I’ve read in a while, their attraction is instantaneous, and the tension sky high. I love the spice, the way they open up to each other, and the way they challenge each other in the healthiest ways. But what makes this book special is the notion of trust. Xander may be overbearing and protective, but he gives Kelly what she needs at every turn. He tells her she can trust him, and then every action backs that up. It’s beautiful to watch because it just makes their connection so much deeper. Xander also makes Kelly trust in herself and her own power, and some of the scenes between them left me speechless with my heart fluttering in my chest. And then he trusts her in return, surrendering himself and his fears to her like he knows she will keep him safe too. I cried. My heart didn’t know what to do with the emotion and it came out as tears, because I loved this so much and felt so much! And the spice! The spice. This book was dirty and sweet at the same time, and that delicious filth was top notch and scorching hot! So so good, and there was one scene that had me full out sweating! You will know which one when you read! Overall I don’t have a single negative thing to say except I’m sad it’s over and I’m pretty sure I’m ruined for all eternity because of this! If you love small town romance, rockstar vibes and a kick ass MMC with a sassy firecracker FMC, Drop everything else and read this! Highly Recommend to ♾️! ... show more

    • Wonderful bodyguard romance!

This was a great story! I liked that Xander was doing a favor to pay a friend back, when he agreed to provide security for a famous singer. It was definitely not what the wanted to be doing, while working on opening up his new bar. Kelly felt same and didn't want him around. They had some great banter at the beginning, and that turned into some serious chemistry the longer they were around each other. I thought the way the story unfolded was wonderful. It kept me wondering who was leaking Kelly's location. I loved Xander's intuition and ability to make her feel safe. I loved these characters, as well as the supporting cast. I am new to Melanie's Books but I am already a huge fan! Her stories combine everything I love in a small-town romance book. A swoony couple combined with small-town charm, fun side characters, and great banter. Xander is a retired Navy Seal and is back in his hometown of Cherry Tree Harbor getting ready to open up his own bar. His Seal buddy has asked a big favor of him to act as security for his younger sister, the famous country star Pixie Hart, who has rented a house near Cherry Tree for two weeks in the summer. There is nothing he wouldn't do for him so he takes on the job. Pixie Hart (aka Kelly Jo Sullivan) is a country star who just needs a break! She has an ex who won't leave her alone and parents who rely on her for everything. She drives herself to this tiny cabin in the woods for two weeks of just being Kelly Jo. She is not too happy that her brother decided to hire a security guard for her and she shows him how displeased she is! But pretty soon she sees that her new bodyguard, Xander, is not so bad and he teaches her how to stand up for herself and make choices for the future she wants, not what others want from her. This is a forced proximity, brother's best friend, bodyguard, small-town romance with great communication between the FMC and MMC and no third-act breakup! It is book 2 of a series, and while you don't have to read book one to follow along, I definitely recommend it because it was also an amazing read! ... show more
